This year marks the 30th year my family has gathered for a cookie bake. In the earlier years the event involved at least a day of baking together, perhaps an overnight trip, an outing to view the Christmas lights, attending a Christmas event, and eating out. As fam-ilies have grown and spread out, and our to-do-lists have enlarged, and we don’t bake or move as fast as we used to, those of us that can now gather to make a batch of the favorite Christmas treats of our mom and two sisters who have died and to exchange our already-baked cookies or treats. Sunday night, as I was making up trays to share with friends and admiring the delicious variety of Christmas treats, the saying “variety is the spice of life” came to mind. And that is so true with people too. God created each person with unique purpose and I am so blessed to witness this daily at Sunnycrest Village. Some residents are gifted in extending a friendly greeting to new neighbors, others have musical talent or a melodic voice; another has a listening ear, others have the competence to spiritually lead, another the ability to financially help, others have willing, helping hands and feet; some model for us on living one day at a time with joy, anoth-er has the capability to help people during an illness or difficult time, some have the knack for decorating, an-other an ability to host events, many have abilities in several areas, another a gift to pray for others, others are skillful in gardening, etc. The list goes on! Thank you for being a person who lives God’s purpose; for being “the spice of life.” By doing so, you make Sunnycrest Village, this corner of God’s world, a wonderful place to live (and to work!)
A Holiday Recipe 4 cups of LOVE 5 spoons of HOPE 2 cups of LOYALTY 2 spoons of TENDERNESS 3 cups of FORGIVENESS 4 quarts of FAITH 1 cup of FRIENDSHIP 1 barrel of LAUGHTER
