Dear Brothers and Sisters,
Happy 4th of July!! As we get into the summer months, remember to be safe when swimming.
Keep an eye on those grand kids!
We have many activities planned that you can participate in.
Starting at our July meeting, we will be collecting items for our next yard sale, and Italian food for a raffle basket.
Sister Madeline B, will be collecting for our troops, so she can get the package out early.
We are gearing up for all the festivities, leading up to the end of the year. A comedy show, a day at the vineyards,
music shows, let’s go see a movie, Halloween and Christmas parties.
So many of you have come together to make things happen and I am so grateful and proud of you all.
It is when we work together that great things happen!
Fraternally, President Margaret
It doesn’t happen often. In fact the last one was in 2005 when the National Convention was held in Manhattan,
but on August 19th and 20th the Supreme Lodge will be having a plenary session in Greenwich, Connecticut.
This is an opportunity for the members of our Lodge to see firsthand a Supreme Lodge meeting.
It may be many more years before the Supreme Lodge will have another meeting in the Metropolitan area.
You can go on either Friday, August 19th or Saturday August 20th.
If you are interested in attending, please see me at the August 1st meeting.
Fraternally, Carlo Matteucci

TO BENEFIT THE CONNETQUOT RIVER STATE PARK PRESERVE
THE TEA WAS HOSTED BY
The Ladies Tea (4th Annual) is a fundraiser used to raise money for the Park. We have raised money with our fundraisers and grants to
refurbish The Mill and to help reopen the Hatchery. Both projects are almost finished but we need to buy food to feed to the fish as they grow
in the Hatchery. The money we raise each year goes to whatever project we are working on and in the future we will be putting money
into educational programs at the Hatchery....

He moved with his family to Naples in 1884.
Giuseppe Moscati was a medical doctor in Naples, Italy during the early 20th century. His brilliant research led to the discovery of insulin as a treatment for diabetes.
Before examining a patient or engaging in research, he would place himself in the presence of God. He encouraged his patients to receive the sacraments and treated poor patients free of charge

Keep a wooden spoon over a pot of boiling water and it won't boil over. (From Lydia).
Apples stay crisper longer in the fridge than on the counter-
but store in plastic bag and not in the same drawer as lettuce.
COFFEE LASTS LONGER IN FREEZER THAN IN REFRIGERATOR.
Never clean windows when the sun is shining on them, they will streak.
Hate when a necklace gets all tangled?
Hold it up to your mouth and blow air through it. You will see it untangle right before your eyes. (Ann Landers column many years ago)

The Sicilian Marionette Theater became popular toward the end of the 1700’s and provided a major source of
entertainment for people living in small towns across the Island.
The stories were based on the great stories of the Middle Ages and on battles between good and evil.
Kings, Queens, Princes and Princesses, Sorcerers, played roles that audiences loved. For example, the popular
story, ORLANDO FURIOSO, based on the book by Ludovico Ariosto, chronicles the trials and tribulations of the
beautiful PRINCESS ANGELICA, torn between the love of two Knights, Orlando and Ranaldo.
OH, my…..be still my heart.
The Marionettes are masterpieces of Sicilian craftsmanship and can weigh 65-85 pounds each and stand up to 4
feet tall. Crafted of wooden skeletons and covered with cloth and metal, then hand painted, each one unique.
Nearly every town in Sicily, has a marionette theater, opera dei pupi, Palermo and Catania in particular.

The various groups participated in the expedition for a variety of
reasons:
For Garibaldi, it was to achieve a united Italy;
To the Sicilian bourgeoisie, to make an independent Sicily
part of the kingdom of Italy.
For the mass farmers, to have land distribution and the
end of oppression.
