ABS’ High Conception Rate (HCR) program has been a fascinating project to research, design and implement to the Australian beef market over the past 3 years. We have collected and thoroughly analysed over 35,000 conception rate results across both

ABS sires, as well as sires offered by other semen providers, to identify ABS sires that consistently achieve between 5-10% higher in conception rates in fixed time AI programs.

With pregnancies delivering a 4 times great economic impact than any other trait, low conception rates are the antithesis of any beef program’s profitability, and this is what has

TLG will hold an annual bull viewing day.

ABS Australia continues to remain in the No. 1 industry position for beef semen sales in Australia.

The NHIA (National Herd Improvement Association) semen sire survey, to which all member A.I. companies submit their annual returns, showed ABS Australia Beef has 42% of the domestic sales and 67% of export sales.

In the Angus breed, sires from ABS Australia currently hold the top four registration positions with EF Complement as the No. 1 registration sire of progeny, a position Complement has held for the previous 36 months. Te Mania Emperor, Pathfinder Genesis and LD Capitalist fill positions 2,3 and 4. ABS Australia boasts 6 of the top 8 with Matauri Reality and Millah Murrah Loch Up in positions 7 and 8. A big thank you to the Australian beef producers for your support.

ABS Australia continues to research and implement programs and hold information meetings for cattle breeders. We have a great passion for Fixed Time A.I. [FTAI] and articles of interest are on pages 52 to 53 in this directory. Over the next 12 months we will be conducting more workshops on FTAI. We know synchronization is a profitable management tool for beef producers, providing great gains in calving intervals and genetic growth. Call us if you require the ABS Australia FTAI booklet.

In recent years we have held open days at TLG for breeders to view the ABS bulls. These have been highly successful events and appreciated by all who attended. Stay tuned for the next open day which will be announced via the ABS Australia Website, social media pages and email.

The ABS Australia beef team has traveled extensively Bill hosted an USA tour last September. In May Bill and Fletch again heading to USA for the ABS Worldwide Beef Management Conference. Bill then hosted another group for a short tour in the USA.

The beef team always are attending Royal Shows and the Beef Week Days in SA, Victoria and Northern and Southern NSW. The team members enjoy catching up with breeders and their cattle.

only been achieving about 50 per cent with heifer conception and we had always been working

on this. Then we stumbled across Murdeduke Kicking and the best (conception result) was up around 71 per cent. If all of a sudden we can go from 50 to 70 per cent conception it does lower

that cost per head.

Breeder comments: From the same dam as Clunie Range Legend this young superstar is probably the deepest, widest standing bull bred at Clunie Range. He has an outstanding topline and is deep, thick and heavily muscled. Legend is known for excellent structure and being a bull that can improve feet and leg angle and stance. We think that this maternal brother will also be known for having the same impeccable structure. His EBV set is excellent but this is a young bull that has genuine capacity, depth of body and excellent top line and power.

Breeder comments: Quality Time has extremely impressive performance data, with an excellent phenotype. He moves effortlessly on excellent feet and legs and has genuine stud sire appeal. Q327 is slick skinned and is as long as a train, outstanding muscle shape and a great top-line as well. The dam Princess H381 has sons working in the Northern Territory, Cloncurry, Aramac and South Australia that have been receiving glowing reports, including sires at Granite Ridge and Ascot and we think is her best son to date. We are excited about the potential for this bull that has frame, length, style and great data. Clunie Range Angus will be using this sire very heavily in our program.

During the last 35 years I have made over 30 visits to USA to inspect sires selected for the Australian market. This year due to COVID -19 travel restrictions a list of candidates was compiled in April.

In conjunction with Angus Australia, the candidates had USA EPD extracts and Australian genomics carried out to determine the EBVs. With a shortened list the bulls were then visually assessed by a group of respected cattle breeders and trusted ABS colleagues. Their feedback which included written reports, photos and videos covering body type, eye appeal, temperament, structure and feet enabled us to make the final selection.

We thank all involved for the detail and energy they contributed to this task and have great confidence in this year’s sire selection.
