Day 1: Board Your Overnight Flight to London!

Arrive in LondonRanging from the North Sea in the east to the playing fields of Eton inthe west, London covers an area of some 620 square miles and ishome to over 8 million people. Prepare to observe the stunningarchitecture, vibrant street life and royal majesty of this bustlingmetropolis.

Walking Tour of London (time permitting)Stroll through the heart of London on your Tour Director-led walkingtour of the city, which begins along the banks of the River Thames. Asyou walk along the ancient embankment, note that these shadowywaters gave the city its name, which derives from Llyn-Dyn, Celtic for“city of the lake.” Walk along the Strand and see the spot from whichall distances to London are measured. Enter Trafalgar Square, whereyou're sure to meet the world's most famous pigeons, and pause atNelson's column, a symbol of Britain's once unrivaled naval power.Continue on to Leicester Square and end your walk at chic CoventGarden, where street performers (or “buskers”) amuse the livelycrowds. (The exact walking route may vary, depending on your hotellocation and the day's other activities.)

Fish and Chips DinnerTonight you will dine on one of England's most famous meals.Originally made popular in the 19th century by Dickens' reference to a“fried fish warehouse” in Oliver Twist, the first fish and chips dinnerswere served with bread and butter and a cup of tea, all for just ninepence.

Begin inGrosvenor Square; site of the U.S. embassy and the house whereEisenhower once lived, this area is sometimes called “Little America.”Continue to Hyde Park Corner, located at the southeast corner ofHyde Park, one of London's largest parks. At bustling PiccadillyCircus, the intersection of five busy streets, check out the bright lightsand big city displays, before heading to Trafalgar Square, site ofNelson's Column, built to commemorate his 1805 victory in the Battleof Trafalgar. Pass Speaker's Corner, where anyone with something tosay is invited to speak his mind. Snap a photo of the Houses ofParliament and continue along London's South Bank for views of thefamous Tower of London and London Bridge. Warner Bros. Studio TourTravel to Leavesden to visit the studio where the iconic Harry Potter™films were shot. You will take a walking tour and see up-close theactual sets used in filming, costumes, and props. You may even hearabout a secret or two about the special effects and animatronics thatwere used in the films' makings. Take a seat in the Great Hall wherethe characters ate their meals, find hidden treasures in Dumbledore'soffice, and stroll down Diagon Alley.

Visit the British MuseumPerusing the collection of the world's first public museum, you willmarvel at reliefs from the Athenian Parthenon (the Elgin Marbles) andthe Rosetta Stone (which enabled archaeologists to decipherEgyptian hieroglyphics). But the museum doesn't neglect GreatBritain-you will also see the ancient bog-preserved body of theLindow Man, treasures from the Anglo Saxon Sutton Hoo ship, andother relics of the British Isles.

Fly to DublinArrive in literary Dublin, one-time home of James Joyce, GeorgeBernard Shaw, Samuel Beckett, and W. B. Yeats! Dublin is also thesetting for Joyce's Ulysses, one of the 20th century's greatest literaryworks. In recent years Dublin has also developed as one of Europe'sbusiest entertainment centers.

Walking Tour of Dublin (time permitting)Join your Tour Director for a stroll through “Dublin's fair city.”Originally a Viking settlement, Baile Átha Cliath, Dublin's originalGaelic name, which means “town of hurdles,” is situated on the banksof the River Liffey, which divides the city north and south. Thisinformative orientation is perfect for your first day in the historic capitalof Ireland. Keep an eye out for Dublin's famous Georgian-era (18thcentury) architecture as you stroll through the city. Walk down thebrick-lined Grafton Street, the city's premier shopping street; visit thestriking greenery of St. Stephen's Green, simply called Stephen'sGreen by local Dubliners; and make your way through Temple Bar,Dublin's hippest neighborhood.

Dinner at Brazen Head PubTonight you will immerse yourself in Irish Culture with a traditionaldinner accompanied by Irish folklore and storytelling in one of Dublin'soldest pubs, the Brazen Head.

Guided Sightseeing of DublinBegin your tour of the Irish capital by viewing some of Dublin'scelebrated Georgian squares. From here you will visit St. Patrick'scathedral to see the beautiful interior. You will then head past the PostOffice, site of the 1916 rebellion, before continuing along the banks ofthe River Liffey. Continue your visit in Phoenix Park which houses theresidence of the President of Ireland. Your tour of Dublin concludeswith a visit to the city's renowned Trinity College, established byQueen Elizabeth I in 1592. Here you will view the illuminated 8thcentury Book of Kells, written by Irish monks and found buried in theground in 1007.

Arrive in GalwayToday Galway is the cultural and artistic capital of the west ofIreland-as well as one of the best places to hear traditional music.Originally known as a center for fishing, the industry still plays a part ineveryday life here.

Walking Tour of GalwayGalway's enticing streets, colorful houses, friendly atmosphere andwonderful music make this a difficult city to leave. Becomeacquainted with the details of this mythical capital of the west coastas your Tour Director leads you on walking tour. Setting out from EyreSquare, with its merchant town houses, head towards the waterfrontthrough some of Ireland's most distinctive streets. Along the way youwill learn the origins of lynching as you pass the 15th century Lynch'sCastle.

Innis Oírr Ferry to the Aran IslandsCatch the ferry from Doolin to Innis Oírr, the smallest of the three AranIslands. Get a unique perspective on the Cliffs of Moher as you passunder them on your ferry.
