Bill Bunton, Material Handler (nominated by Mike Baker)Bill is a floating material handler. Any time a material

handler is out, Bill is usually the person that is put in place to fill the spot. I nominate Bill to be recognized because of his initiative. Any time there is a fellow team member in need in his department, Bill always takes initiative to help his team members.

There have been times when Bill is ahead on his work. He will talk to the supervisor at the line he is running parts for to see if there is somewhere on the line he could help out until he is called upon. Bill has helped out on my line with changeovers, and his cooperation to help get the change-overs complete as soon as possible is outstanding.

Since Bill is a floating material handler, his service to all of the supervisors is great. I hear Bill on the radio many times a day calling his team members, and the line supervisors letting them know he is available at any time if it gets really busy and they need help.

cooperation, ingenuity and initiative. They have gone above and beyond to make the presentations and materials for the annual beverage sales meeting the best we've ever had. You give them an idea and supporting material and the results are always beyond expectations.

BIOGRAPHICAL WRIT ING

True ManufacturingWrote biography of company founder to be featured in a special edition of the company newsletter dedicated to veterans.

The principles that guide True Manufacturing today endure from the legacy of the company’s founders. Co-founder Robert J. Trulaske, Sr. was a man of valor, demonstrating it in combat while serving his country, and when he came home to meet the challenge of building and selling one of the nation’s first commercial freezers. What Bob and his father and brother lacked in financing they made up for with a tenacious work ethic, working sixty hours a week, resting only on Sundays.Throughout his military and professional legacy Bob

exemplified perseverance, leadership and humility regardless of the challenge he faced, or success he achieved. When duty called, Bob answered, serving his country, his fellow man, and his company. Bob’s military service began when he participated in the

R.O.T.C. program at the University of Missouri-Columbia from 1936 to 1940. This was the end of the era of horse-drawn artillery. Bob was nominated the outstanding cadet after he was bucked off his horse, got back on and led his group of fellow trainees on a twelve-hour ride.“This was a very eventful phase of my life. I had not been

aware of anything exceptional in my capacities.”His senior year he was cadet colonel and led the artillery

in the weekly parade. For this he was awarded a saber by Harry S. Truman.After graduating in 1940, he worked for Proctor & Gamble

selling Duz soap products for a year and a half. He was given his own territory that included Jacksonville. It was there that he met his future wife, Geraldine, in an ice cream parlor.When Pearl Harbor was attacked, he notified the War

Department that he was ready to be called into duty. He received orders three weeks later at the end of 1941.With his experience in the R.O.T.C. program, the War

Department allowed Bob to choose his branch and job in the military. Bob chose to transfer into the air force, believing that trained pilots were the key to Hitler’s defeat. He learned to fly in Texas with five other men.His first time in the cockpit gave him a “little shock.” The

controls of the primary PT 19A airplane were on the right. “I’m left handed. I can’t fly this airplane left-handed. And they said, well, we don’t have one for a left-hander. You’ll either fly it with your right or you won’t be here. So I learned to fly right-handed. And this is the only thing I’ve ever done right-handed.”

Bob earned his wings as First Lieutenant in August 1943. He was assigned to fly C-47s in the 88th Troop Carrier Squadron, 438th Troop Carrier Group.Bob awaited orders at the Royal Air Force Station

Greenham Common in Berkshire, England. “We had no idea when D-Day was going to be; We knew it was imminent.”He recalled the pensive silence that preceded the

Allies’ decisive action. “It’s maybe 10 o’clock in England and it doesn’t get dark until midnight. And I can see the paratroopers standing beside my airplane. For the most part, they were sort of hanging on the wings with their heads down, praying, I would think. Not a lot of bravado conversation at all; very quiet.”When it came time to invade Normandy, Bob flew out

over the Atlantic to the Cotentin Peninsula, carrying paratroopers.“We were all in the same boat on the combat missions,

but they had to jump out and I had to stay in the airplane, of course... Those poor guys, they dropped in D-Day, they dropped in Southern France, and then they came back and dropped in Holland.”Bob’s combat mission in Holland ended with an

emergency landing. “That day I got the plane as high as it would go, 10,000 feet, and then we end up with all these black oily bursts of anti-aircraft fire. There must have been thousands of them.” One of the gas tanks was hit, leaking and caught fire. The gasoline ran out after ten minutes, and knowing he had to land soon, he touched down in newly-liberated Brussels only to run out of fuel on the runway.Bob continued delivering paratroopers, supplies and fuel

until the war was over. He remained in Europe, flying his own plane to Paris to visit fellow vets from the 438th Troop Carrier group. When asked in 2001 about his service, he remarked “I love the achievement today as much as I did then.”Bob and his family achieved great success building True

Manufacturing into a world-wide leader in commercial refrigeration. The perseverance, leadership and discipline he demonstrated during his military service proved fundamental to the successful development of True Manufacturing. Bob’s legacy of core values continues to guide the company in its operational strategies today.

The Agency has estab-lished a certification program for refrigerant recovery and recycling equipment. EPA requires that manufacturers or importers of refrigerant recovery and recycling equipment manufac-tured on or after Novem-ber 15, 1993, have their equipment tested by an EPA-approved testing organization to ensure that it meets EPA re-quirements. Equipment intended for use with air-conditioning and re-frigeration equipment must be tested under EPA requirements based upon the ARI 740 test protocol (i.e., EPA Appendices B

and B1 to 40 CFR 82 sub-part F). Recycling and recovery equipment in-tended for use with small appliances must be test-ed under EPA Appendix C or alternatively under requirements based upon the ARI 740 test protocol (i.e., Appendices B and B1 to 40 CFR 82 subpart F).

The Agency requires re-covery efficiency stan-dards that vary depend-ing on the size and type of air-conditioning or refrigeration equipment being serviced. For recov-ery and recycling equip-ment intended for use with air-conditioning and refrigeration equipment

besides small applianc-es, these standards are the same as those in the second column of Table 1. Recovery equipment intended for use with small appliances must be able to recover 90 per-cent of the refrigerant in the small appliance when the small appliance com-pressor is operating and 80 percent of the refriger-ant in the small appliance when the compressor is not operating.

EPA has approved both the Air-Conditioning,

Heating, and Refrigera-tion Institute (AHRI) Exit disclaimer and Underwrit-ers Laboratories (UL) Exit disclaimer to certify recy-cling and recovery equip-ment. Certified equip-ment can be identified by a label reading: “This equipment has been cer-tified by ARI/UL to meet EPA’s minimum require-ments for recycling and/ or recovery equipment intended for use with [ap-propriate category of ap-pliance--e.g., small appli-ances, HCFC appliances containing less than 200 pounds of refrigerant, all high-pressure applianc-es, etc.].” Lists of certified equipment may be ob-tained by contacting ARI at 703-524-8800 and UL at 877-854-3577.
