Anne Frank-Anne Frank was born on June 12th, 1929 in Frankfurt, Germany. Her family was

Jewish. She lived happily with her parents and older sister, Margot. ln 1933, AdolfHitler became the leader of Germany. Then everything changed.

Hitler passed laws against J ews and other groups of people. They lost their jobsand were forced out of their homes. Many people were killed. The government sentothers to prisons called concentration camps. Life in the camps was horrible. Millions ofpeople died there.

The Frank family ran away to Amsterdam,Holland. They were safe for a while. ln 1939, WorldWar II started, and in 1940, Hitler's army came toHolland. Life became very bad in Holland, too.

Anne's father, Otto hid his family in secret_ rooms in an office building. Another Jewish family hid

ther-e, too. Dutch friends brought food for them.Often they did not have enough food. During the day,they had to be very quiet. They lived in fear. Theystayed there almost two years.

Every day Anne Frank wrote in her diary. She described her feelings and what shesaw. Life was very hard, but she wrote about good things, too. On June 6,1944, the twofamilies heard important news on their radio. The armies of England and the UnitedStates were now in France. The war was going to end. Everyone was very happy.

Right before the war ended, someone betrayed them. The German secret policecame. The police sent the two families to the concentration camps. Sadly, they were onthe last train from Amsterdam to the concentration camps.

Anne's mother died of starvation. Anne and her sister died from a disease calledtyphus less than a year after their arrivaI. Only Otto Frank survived. ln 1948, hepublished The Diary of Anne Frank. Because of her diary, people 011 over the world knowthe story of Anne Frank.
