Blackbox Research provides market research and intelligence gathering, as well as planning and consulting services for large and medium businesses and advertising companies. Caroline Boey Group Editor, TTG Asia Media Travel Group Caroline Boey has 22 years of journalism experience with almost 20 years specialising in the travel trade. Boey began her career in travel trade journalism in Hong Kong as correspondent for TTG Asia. She relocated and has been based in Singapore since 1995. Caroline Boey now manages a team of reporters and correspondents across Asia, Europe and the United States, working closely with the editors in the Travel Group to oversee TTG Asia Media’s publications. Over the years, Caroline has written for and managed publications such as TTG Asia, PATA Travel News (which was later rebranded PATA Compass), TTGmice, BTN Asia-Pacific and daily newspapers published by TTG Asia and TTGmice at key travel trade events. These events include the ASEAN Tourism Forum, ITB Berlin and PATA Travel Mart. TTG also publishes daily newspapers for events organised by TTG Asia Media Exhibitions Group, namely IT&CMA, CTW Asia-Pacific, IT&CM China and CT&TW China.

Jennie Chua Deputy Chairman, CapitaLand ILEC Pte Ltd Jennie Chua is the Deputy Chairman of CapitaLand ILEC Pte Ltd and Chief Strategic Relations Officer at CapitaLand Limited. Ms Chua is a well-known veteran in the Singapore hospitality industry. In addition to her duties at CapitaLand, she also serves as Chairman of several organisations, including Sentosa Cove, The Old Parliament House, Raffles Hotel, Community Chest of Singapore, International Advisory Council for Tourism and Singapore Film Commission. In addition, Jennie Chua is a member of the Cornell University Board of Trustees in NY, USA and a Director on the Singapore International Chamber of Commerce, the National Healthcare Group, Singapore Workforce Development Agency, and Tisch School of the Arts-Asia, among others. In 2006, Jennie Chua received the Outstanding Contribution to Tourism Award by Singapore Tourism Board. In 2003, Ms Chua was named “Person of the Year – Asia Pacific (Hotel)” by American-based Travel Agent Magazine. The Award recognises her contribution to the hospitality industry. In the same year, Ms Chua was the only Singaporean named as one of Business Week’s “25 Stars of Asia”, which recognises achievements in challenging economic conditions.

Shaun Goh Director, Strategic Clusters II, Business Travel and MICE Group, Singapore Tourism Board Shaun Goh joined the Singapore Tourism Board’s (STB) Business Travel and MICE (Meetings, Incentive travel, Conventions and Exhibitions) Group in March 2005. As Director of Strategic Clusters II, Shaun Goh is responsible for developing and growing existing conventions and exhibitions in Singapore, as well as attracting and anchoring new business events in the city-state. Shaun Goh has more than 23 years of experience in sales and marketing, business development and project management. Prior to joining STB, Shaun Goh was a Managing Consultant with BTI Consultants Pte Ltd, the Asian-based executive search and resourcing arm of Kelly Services Inc. which is a Fortune 500 organisation headquartered in the United States. A 15-year veteran in the exhibitions industry, Shaun Goh has held several key positions in the sector, including Executive Director of Singapore Exhibition Services (SES), a leading exhibitions organiser in Singapore. He was also based in Hong Kong from 1993 to 2000 as General Manager of Hong Kong Exhibition Services.

Julian Gregory Managing Director, Business Traveller In 2005, Julian Gregory formed Panacea Publishing International Limited, a publishing company which bought Business Traveller from Euromoney Institutional Investor PLC. He has been the Managing Director of Business Traveller since 2003 and continues to contribute editorial to the business publication. Business Traveller is a well regarded business travel magazine which covers topics that affects the business traveller, from issues such as health, security, airlines and airports updates, leisure options at various destinations, city guides and business travel tips. Business Traveller was first published in 1976 and now includes nine editions: UK and Europe, US, Germany, the Middle-East, Asia-Pacific, China, Hungary, Spain and Denmark. Prior to forming Panacea Publishing, Julian Gregory was Business Development Director at various publishing companies such as Euromoney, and Caspian Publishing Limited, a fast-growing contract and proprietary publishing business. Caspian Publishing publishes titles such as Real Business and Real Deals, and the contract publishing business included clients such as Microsoft, IBM, Sodexo and Ascot.

Steven Hacker, CAE President, International Association of Exhibitions and Events (IAEE) As President of the International Association of Exhibitions and Events (IAEE), which was formerly the International Association for Exhibition Management (IAEM), Steven Hacker increased the organisation’s membership numbers from less than 2,600 to nearly 7,000. IAEE today is at the centre of a growing network of national and international organisations in the business events industry with offices in Dallas, Brussels, Singapore and Beijing. It has 16 international, national and regional associations in the exhibition industry as working partners. Hacker earned the “Certified Association Executive (CAE)” designation in 1976 and was also named Fellow of the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE) in 1988. He has been named “One of the 25 Most Influential People in the Meetings and Conventions Industry” for seven consecutive years beginning in 1996. In 2005, he was named by University of Las Vegas, Nevada, as an “Industry Leader of the Year”. In 2007, Hacker was recognised by New York Society of Association Executives’ Vision Award. "It has been a distinct honor and privilege for me to have served as a judge of the first Singapore Business Events Awards. Clearly, there are many superior events taking place in Singapore and determining which events should be especially noted for recognition became a very difficult task. On behalf of all of us at the International Association of Exhibitions and Events (IAEE) I extend my hearty congratulations to all who have been recognised and offer our gratitude to all who participated," said Mr Hacker.

Ken Low Assistant Chief Executive, Brand and Communications, Singapore Tourism Board Ken Low assumed the position of Assistant Chief Executive of the Brand and Communications Group in the Singapore Tourism Board (STB) in January 2006. He oversees the development, implementation and management of Singapore’s destination brand, and also manages the development and execution of the Board’s communications and corporate messaging. Ken Low started his career with the Board as Director, Brand Management in April 2003. During his term as Director, Brand Management, he played an instrumental role in the development of the Uniquely Singapore destination brand and was responsible for managing the consistent application of all brand communications to local and overseas stakeholders. Concurrent with his position as Director, Brand Management, Ken Low was also appointed as Director, Lifestyle and Events in the Board in January 2004. During his time in the Board, he led a number of successful marketing initiatives such as the Singapore Roars! and Project Postcard campaigns which played a significant role in boosting visitor arrivals and restoring visitors’ confidence in Singapore during the post-SARS period.

Quek Swee Kuan Deputy Chief Executive (International), Singapore Tourism Board Quek Swee Kuan joined the Singapore Tourism Board in 2007 and he oversees the Board’s International Operations, International Marketing and International Relations divisions. Prior to joining the STB, Quek Swee Kuan was with the Economic Development Board (EDB) for 13 years where he held various leadership positions. He was concurrently the Director of Infocomms and Media (ICM), Director for North American Operations and Chief Information Officer. As Director for ICM, he was involved in bringing Lucasfilm Animation Studio, Electronic Arts’ Game Development Studio and World Cyber Games Grand Finals 2005 to Singapore. He was also on the Board of Media Development Authority and was the Deputy Executive Director of the Interactive Digital Media Programme Office under the National Research Foundation in Singapore. Quek Swee Kuan spent more than five years from 1995 to 2000 as the EDB Regional Director, Western U.S. office, based in the Silicon Valley. His stint coincided with the rapid growth of the Internet. Apart from promoting Foreign Direct Investments from Infocomms and media, electronics and biotech industries, he was also involved in venture capital investments in startups and venture capital funds. He sat on the Board of Directors of several startups and served as Limited Partner for a few Silicon Valley and Boston-based venture capital funds.

Didier Scaillet Vice-President, Global Development, Meeting Professionals International, Luxembourg Didier Scaillet possesses over 12 years of experience in the meetings and business travel industry. As Vice-President of Global Development at Meeting Professionals International, he oversees the organisation’s Europe, Middle East and Africa and Asian offices. Meeting Professionals International is the largest community in the meetings industry, with over 22,000 members in 60 countries. Over the years, Didier Scaillet has successfully led the MPI Foundation Europe fundraising project which raised SGD 1.2 million (€ 600,000) to fund research and education to improve the meetings profession. He also undertook project management responsibilities, participated in European trade shows and led a team to the European Conference and European Chapter Leaders’ Forum. Didier Scaillet is a regular speaker at meetings and travel industry events organised by the Association of Corporate Travel Executive (ACTE), the International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA), the International Congress and Convention Association (AIPC), Meeting Professionals International (MPI), Union des Foires Internationales (UFI), as well as the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) conferences on global trends in the meetings industry. "Singapore is known for its innovative and pro-active spirit. The creation of the Singapore Business Events Awards demonstrates, once more, its commitment to recognise excellence within the meetings industry. We are very proud to have been associated with this initiative and will continue to contribute to its development," said Mr Scaillet.

Dr. Judy A. Siguaw Professor of Marketing, School of Hotel Administration, Cornell University Judy A. Siguaw is the Founding Dean of Cornell-Nanyang Institute of Hospitality Management. She also holds a J. Thomas Clark Chair in Entrepreneurship and Personal Enterprise with Cornell University. Over the years, Judy A. Siguaw has received the prestigious Marketing Science Institute research award, a Chartered Institute of Marketing award, a Jane Fenyo Award from the Academy of Marketing Sciences, research fellowships, a CIBER travel award from Duke University, a grant from American Express and the American Hotel Foundation, and eleven university research grants. Dr. Siguaw has been listed twice in Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers, and has been awarded the Chancellor’s Excellence in Teaching Award. She has been twice named Outstanding Educator by Merrill Presidential Scholars. Dr. Siguaw has published over 45 journal articles which have appeared in the Journal of Marketing Research, Journal of International Business Studies, Journal of Strategic Marketing and Journal of Travel Research, to name a few. Dr. Siguaw’s research covers personal selling, sales management, customer relationships, channels of distribution and marketing strategy. She is currently serving on the board of the Center of Hospitality Research and the regional founding board of Hospitality Sales and Marketing Association International (HSMAI) in Asia Pacific.

Martin Sirk Chief Executive Officer, International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA) Martin Sirk has 25 years experience in destination marketing with 18 years’ experience as a meetings industry specialist. Over the years, he has worked in the United States of America, Asia, as well as United Kingdom. He is currently responsible for ICCA’s strategic direction and operation for ICCA’s head office in Amsterdam, as well as its regional offices in Malaysia, Uruguay and the USA. Martin Sirk’s experience in tourism ranges from working in a national tourism bureau, a city convention bureau, convention centres and the hospitality industry. He also used to provide consultancy services to Professional Conference Organisers (PCOs) and tourism organisations. In the past, he has helmed Hilton Hotel group’s sales and marketing launch to position Hilton as a specialist meetings hotel in Europe. Said Mr Sirk: “I was delighted to serve on the Judging Committee for the inaugural Awards, and highly impressed by the quality of the entries. This initiative is important not just in terms of its PR value to Singapore, but also in its power to demonstrate the impact of international association meetings to destinations in all areas of the world and to encourage innovation and excellence within the international meeting planner community."

Kenneth Tan Executive Director, New Business Group, Economic Development Board, Singapore Deputy Executive Director, Environment and Water Industry Development Council, Ministry of Environment and Water Resources, Singapore Kenneth Tan is Executive Director (New Businesses) of the Singapore Economic Development Board (EDB) overseeing a number of areas crucial to the continued development of the Singapore economy such as the development of new technologies, talent management and Singapore's move into new high growth industry sectors such as the environment, water and clean energy. Kenneth Tan was also EDB's Cluster Director for the Services Industry. Prior to EDB, Kenneth spent a number of years in private equity and investment banking in Citigroup holding various appointments such as Citigroup's Director of Private Equity, Asia Pacific and Director, Corporate Development, Citibank Singapore. He also spent more than a decade in the Singapore Armed Forces where he divided his time between both command and staff jobs which included holding senior appointments such as commanding officer of the 21st battalion Singapore Artillery and holding various branch and department head positions in Singapore's Ministry of Defence.

Alison Taylor Vice President, Sales, Starwood Hotels and Resorts, Asia Pacific Alison Taylor has over 20 years of experience working at Starwood Hotels and Resorts. She has held Hotel, Regional Sales and Marketing positions in Australia, Fiji, Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore. In her current role as Vice President of Sales, Alison Taylor is responsible for the sales and online marketing strategies for Starwood’s 130 Asia Pacific Hotels and Resorts, as well as 14 Global Sales Offices across the division.

Christine E Toguchi Managing Director, MacroVision Network Pte Ltd

Christine E Toguchi is the Founder and Managing Director of MacroVision Network Pte Ltd, a marketing, training and consulting firm specialising in Travel Distribution Marketing and Revenue Optimization Strategy. MacroVision Network is headquartered in Singapore, with a US regional centre in Hawaii. Christine E Toguchi is also the Managing Director for the Hospitality Sales and Marketing Association International (HSMAI) in Asia Pacific. Together with an outstanding Board of Directors, Christine provides the leadership and vision for the HSMAI Asia Pacific region. A ‘Chartered Marketer’, ‘Fellow’ of the Chartered Institute of Marketing (UK) and a Certified Management Consultant, she has more than 20 years of industry experience in travel trade, airline and hotel sales & marketing and has worked with internationally recognised organisations such as; Pacific Delight Tours, All Nippon Airways Co Ltd, Millennium & Copthorne Hotels and Resorts and Utell/Pegasus Solutions.

Lisa Watson Chairman, Direct Marketing Association of Singapore With over 20 years of direct marketing, consulting and advertising experience, Lisa Watson has worked in Asia since 1991. She is an advocate of the direct marketing industry and has served as Chairman of the Direct Marketing Association of Singapore since 2002. In 2004, Ms Watson was appointed to the Operating Committee of the International Council of the U.S. Direct Marketing Association and she is currently co-chair of the Marketing and Communications Committee for AmCham Singapore. Ms Watson’s client experience includes Oracle, Hewlett Packard, SingTel, Xerox, Procter & Gamble, The Economist, Nestlé, American Express and Microsoft. Today, she is the founder and managing director of Ibis Intelligence Services.

Paul Woodward Regional Manager, Asia/Pacific, UFI – The Global Association of the Exhibition Industry Paul Woodward is the Regional Manager of the UFI Asia/Pacific office in Hong Kong. He is also the Principal of Business Strategies Group, a business intelligence and strategy consulting firm that specialises in the business media and events industry. Paul Woodward has been based in Hong Kong since 1985, focusing on the development of business media in Asia. Prior to founding Business Strategies Group in 2000, Paul Woodward was Managing Director of Asian Strategies Ltd., the research and strategy consulting division of Miller Freeman Asia. He was also a Director of Miller Freeman Asia, where he was overseeing regional strategy development, corporate communications and businesses around the Asia-Pacific region.
