COUNCIL HIGHLIGHTS May 20, 2015
The St. Johns Congregational Council heard a number of reports and updates on committee
initiatives at the monthly meeting on May 20th.
The communication committee is working on
reviewing St. Johns staff computers and the sanctuary sound system. The first step in each case
is to document what we have and then work on a
plan to update and replace as necessary.
Other reports came from the Call Committee,
Benefaction Board, and the Worship Life
Committee. The council also received an annual
report on Norfolks Campus Ministry and a written update on Vacation Bible School.
A complete copy of the minutes is available by
mail or email by contacting the church office.
Thank you
SO MUCH to
St. John's Benefaction
Board for the grant of
$5,500 to NeLCM-Norfolk for the 2015-2016
academic year. Also, many thanks to the St. John's
members who give regular dedicated gifts to
NeLCM through St. John's, as a $890 total gift was
received this past month.
At New Student Registration in May & June, I
gave away nearly 300 packages of Ramen Noodles
and brochures about NeLCM-Norfolk, and scored
29 new facebook friends who might be interested
in getting involved in campus ministry in Norfolk
this fall!
Be sure to save the date for 2015 Folks &
Forks, Sunday, September 20, 2015, at 3 p.m.
We'll be having an amazing jazz concert, silent
auction items, & First Choice Pie & Culver's.
Speaking of Culver's, if you want to dine out for
campus ministry on Tuesday, June 23, be sure to
get something off the menu at Culver's from 5-8
p.m. Dine in or go through the drive-thru: both will
work. A percentage of your bill will go to NeLCM-
Norfolk. Thanks again for all of your support!
~~Pastor Justin & the NeLCM-Norfolk
Governance Council
If you have the opportunity to
thank Dale Tomka of Floral
Expressions, please do so!
With your sponsorship help,
they provide the beautiful
arrangements each week for
the altar. Thank you!
St. Johns Financial Notes:
We give thanks for the generosity of the
members and friends of St. Johns Lutheran
Church.
During 2015 we have added two new
missional categories. Through Lenten
offerings we received $8,800 for the Walk for
Water program of the ELCA which will receive
matching funds, dollar for dollar, to total
$17,600! We are also receiving money to
sponsor Aline Skogstoe and her service in the
Young Adult Global Mission program of the
ELCA. So far, $3,100 has been received of
the $3,500 projected expense to the St.
Johns membership.
As we enter the summer months we find
ourselves $4,190 behind church expenses in
the general fund (as of May 31, 2015).
Property giving has remained strong and
consistent.
We thank you for your offerings. The summer
months are consistently low in revenue. Thank
you for your continued faithfulness and
support. Because of you we continue a strong
ministry together at St. Johns Lutheran!
