END OF YEAR DANCE/GLEE
PERFORMANCE
On Wednesday evening the Dance Group and the
Glee Group had the audience in awe, but no more
than the parents’ performance, which opened the
show with “Can’t Stop The Feeling”
From “Edward Scissorhands” to the Finale it was a
night of music, dance, colour and excitement. For
all those who witnessed these performances I know
you would have shared in the pride staff felt at
seeing such a display of talent dancing before you.
From the very youngest of students to the oldest,
the enthusiasm, the fun and joy of performing was
evident….a passion for all things dramatic.
There is nothing like seeing the students so keen to
learn and perform. The practical components of
performance are very important and it is these that
the students will take away with them long after
they have left the school. Self-confidence, poise and
self-awareness are aspects of performance that will
stand them in good stead for their journey forward.
I acknowledge the contribution of Ms King, Ms
Morgan, Ms Redlich, Ms Whitelaw, Mrs Volz, Mrs
Chi, Mrs Flowers and Mrs Lefebure for teaching or
supervising dance classes in Mrs Whiteoak’s
absence during Term Three.
I acknowledge the wonderful contribution to Glee A
by Mr Miet; Glee B with Mrs Cooper and Mrs
Whiteoak; Junior Glee directed by Ms Whitelaw;
the Glee Vocal Coach - Ms Crystal; Star Dance
Troupe Teacher – Ms King. What a year!
I thank Mikalya Wiles, Kristy Pratt, Belinda Young,
Amelie Field, Ashlee Morgione, Kaelyn Sims,
Keeana King, Khushi Choudari, Holly MacFarlane,
Tori Watanabi, Frances Wang, Harrison Lefebure,
Alex Salanitri and Samuel Rutherford-Lemon who
assisted with Dance and Glee.
It is wonderful to see the students seize this
opportunity and made the best of it. Thank you to
Mrs Lefebure and Mrs Pauline Colgrave for their
support and assistance with the costumes. Special
‘THANK YOU” to Mrs Whiteoak, who despite her
absence has brought together the wonderful
performance on Wednesday night.
We were indeed all treated to a musical and dance
spectacular once again. The students (and parents)
display of twists and turns, clapping and tapping
and smiles that shone brightly, enthralled the
audience.
CONGRATULATIONS, EVERYONE
URGENT!
LOST PROPERTY
END OF YEAR IS FAST APPROACHING
LAST CHANCE TO CLAIM
It is really incredible to see so many unnamed items
of school uniform and the ever increasing number
of unclaimed articles of clothing. I ask parents to
please check in the Lost Property tubs if they are
missing any school uniform garments.
Please check the name on your school jackets in
case you have accidently picked up the wrong one.
EXCEL MUSIC OPEN LESSON DAY
On Monday 12th December EXCEL MUSIC will be
hosting an Open Lesson Day. Parents will have the
opportunity to attend their child’s lesson and
observe the progress that has been achieved during
the course of the year. It also enables students to
perform for an audience which is very important for
their musical development and personal growth.
PAYMENT OF REQUISITES

Once again, as an incentive for early payment, we
are offering a ticket in a draw for one student’s
contribution to be free. This draw will take place on

INTERGENERATIONAL PROJECT
BURWOOD HEIGHTS PRIMARY SCHOOL AND STRATHDON COMMUNITY CENTRE
LINKING THE PAST AND PRESENT
Supported by a grant of $1,000, from the City of Whitehorse, seven Senior School students from our school, had the
privilege of being involved in this music based project. The following seven students are to be commended on the
manner in which they represented our school as members of the Ukulele Ensemble: Lachlan Baensch, Clodagh Brooks,
Fiona Chai, Levi Chan, Grace Chiarotta, Chloe Findlay, Caoimhe Fouche, Emma Ferrier, Keeana King, Harrison Lefebure,
Amelia Rutherford-Lemon, Kaelyn Sims and Kennis Xu.
Dressed in specially purchased outfits, the students strummed their ukuleles as they sang along with the residents, and
recited poetry of times past. The engagement between the residents and the students was clear to see. These students
were sensitive at all times to their audience and it was a “win- win” for both our students and the elderly residents.
Our Ukulele Ensemble, gained much from leading the entertainment at the Strathdon Community Centre. The students
were able to:
Facilitate connections with the older residents in the centre
Develop an understanding of dementia and how the condition poses challenges to the memory and speech of
those affected
Learn basic helpful skills in communicating with those challenged by the condition and understand how music
can assist them to relax and enjoy social communication
The residents gained much also.
Their language skills were stimulated, as they were motivated to communicate
Their mood and sense of well-being seemed to improve as they sang along with the students as they performed
their favourite songs
Their enjoyment with being in the company of young people was clear.
I sincerely thank Mrs Crystal, Mrs McGuinness and Ms Ralph, who willingly provided the required support, necessary to
undertake such a project.
Mrs Sue Barchlay (Project Co-ordinator)
“The program has been truly wonderful for all. The school community will be pleased to know that the children have
conducted themselves to the highest standard throughout the time they participated in the program with the residents of
the Jack Faichney Ward at the Strathdon Community Centre. Thank you, Janice Mendoza, Assistant Life Style Co-ordinator,
We recited the
ballads of C J
Dennis and Banjo
Paterson and many
of the residents
remembered parts of
these verses.
Clodagh and Emma led the Ukulele Ensemble and the ten members played great old time favourites for
the residents such as “Camptown Races” and “She’ll Be Coming Round the Mountain”.
We made hand actions to accompany our songs and this helped
convey meaning to our audience. Harrison and Kennis enjoyed
chatting to Joyce. Each time we went to Strathdon we improved
their (the residents’) day. We felt we made a big difference and are
proud of our efforts.
