UCLA Health Path & Lab Med Volunteers—Care Harbor

October 15-18 2015

Care Harbor is a major opportunity for our department volunteers to

reach the people most important to their mission – all under one roof

at one time. The men and women attending this free clinic are an

accessible and eager audience as they wait, often for hours, for the

health services they request. Charities, organizations and govern-

ment agencies can connect with their public enmasse with great effi-

ciency and impact.

Care Harbor provides free medical, dental and vision care to the

uninsured, underinsured and underserved in our communities. For

those who live without access to the care they need, our clinic events

are a destination for help and hope.

There is space for exhibits and presentations that educate and inform

patients as well as provide them with needed services. Our goal is to

promote the wellness and wellbeing of the people we serve - some

of our most vulnerable populations – with prevention and education-

al resources.

Lavita Boyd led a group of volunteers at the CareHarbor

LA event in October.

UCLA Blood & Platelet Center

The UCLA Blood & Platelet Center conducted a live broadcast with Nataly Valenzuela

from Univision. Nataly has been a donor with us for many years and as the Blood and Plate-

let Center (BPC) explores new avenues to advertise and obtain donors, it made perfect sense

to have Nataly conduct a segment on her morning show debuting the BPC's work and it's

importance to our community. We opened early for the show to

broadcast live at 05:19 a.m. on a Monday morning. The show is

geared towards the Spanish community and relayed entirely in Spanish. The BPC believes this

to be a great community and culture to target and provide insight to regarding the process, pur-

pose and importance of donating and giving back. As the BPC moves forward, we are con-

stantly looking for new and innovative ways to obtain more donors and increase blood supply

for UCLA Health. You will be seeing more of us! Come donate & Give back.
