First General Speaker
Kendra's primary responsibilities are the delivery and
management of WebJunction's core continuing
education services for state and public libraries. She
is particularly interested in the role libraries play in
supporting local community needs such information
and resources for health and digital literacy, and has
managed a number of grant-funded programs that
address those issues. Kendra received her MLIS from
the University of Hawai'i; and prior to joining OCLC in
2007, she provided training and technology support
in hundreds of libraries as part of the Bill & Melinda
Gates Foundation’s U.S. Libraries Program, and
served as a technology consultant at The Library of
Virginia.
More Information On the SessionThe opioid epidemic is a public health crisis which has created a need for
information and resources in communities of all sizes – a need that many
libraries are seeking to meet for their patrons. Public Libraries Respond to
the Opioid Epidemic with Their Community is an IMLS-funded project led by
OCLC and the Public Library Association to expand libraries’ capacity to
support their communities. The project studied a diverse set of
communities where the library is an active partner in addressing the
epidemic and has engaged in discussions and activities with a range of
government, public health, and community organizations. We will explore
insights into emerging practices, opportunities and challenges, and
resources to help library staff guide their response to this crisis.
