29th Annual Tree Trim Event Wednesday, December 5th at 6:00 p.m.

All ages. Family Friendly Event Length: 90 minutes

No registration is required for this event, but space is limited.

Any child age 8 and under must have caregiver present.

During this family-friendly event, children will have an opportunity to help trim the library’s Christmas tree, listen to some holiday stories, and partake in a tasty

treat! We will have a special visitor from the North Pole, so parents please bring your cameras.

Chris Martin a versatile Chicago piano player with 30 years of experience will be providing music for this

event.

It’s already begun – so join in the giving! For over two decades the residents of Burbank and Nottingham Park have

supported the library’s efforts in helping those in need.

Donations of new mittens, gloves, ear muffs, hats, and scarves will be collected and given to the local Our Savior Lutheran Church. The group aids the homeless as well as

those in need of emergency help.

We will be collecting donations through December 22nd.

Twelve Days of Holidays Reading Grades:

Birth - 6th

Read for 12 days starting on December 1st and finish by December 31st. Please read for a minimum of 30 minutes each day. Color an ornament every day that you read. Pick up your ornament coloring sheet at the Youth

Services desk. When you have colored the 12 ornaments, bring the completed sheet to the youth services desk for a

prize.

Youth Events

Registration begins Monday, November 26th at 9:00 a.m. You can register online or in person, we do not register over the phone. To register you must have a Prairie Trails Public Library card. Your child ’s library card must be used.

An adult can register up to three children on one adult library card IN PERSON only.

Holiday & Seasonal Stories (week of December 3rd – 8th) Join us for a week of fun seasonal and holiday storytimes!

No registration is required for these storytime, but space is limited.

Children of all ages and their families. Any child age 5 or under must have caregiver present in the program room.

Monday, December 3rd Reindeer Fun at 10:00 a.m. Length: 30 minutes Tuesday, December 4th Snow at 10:30 a.m. Length: 30 minutes Wednesday, December 5th Feliz Navidad Storytime and Craft at 10:00 a.m. Length: 45 minutes Children will have fun engaging in bilingual Christmas-themed books, songs, and crafts that will teach them new Spanish words. LEGO Zone Saturday, December 1st at 11:00 a.m. Ages: 3-12 years Length: 45 minutes No registration is required for this event, but space is limited. Join us for fun and imaginative LEGO-building! We will provide the LEGO’s and you can bring your creative design ideas! All materials must stay at the library, but parents may bring cameras to capture the creations. Any child age 5 or under must have caregiver present in the program room.

Read to Rover Tuesday, December 18th at 7:00 p.m. Grade: K-6th Length: 1 hour Limit: 12 children (10 minute time slots) Improve your reading skills and make a new friend by reading aloud to a therapy dog. The dogs and handlers are from Rainbow Animal Assisted Therapy. Children in grades K-6 can come and practice reading aloud to a licensed therapy dog and build the confidence needed to be successful readers. This program is for children who already know how to read. Please sign up in person at the Youth Services desk for a 10 minute time slot.

Infinity War Party Saturday, December 29th at 11:00 a.m. Grades: 4th -12th Limit: 50 Length: 160 minutes Join us at our special screening of Avengers: Infinity War (PG-13). Come dressed as your favorite Marvel hero or wear a Marvel themed shirt and try on our very own Infinity Gauntlet. You do not want to miss out on this marvelous party! Snacks will be served.

Adult Events

Stress Less over the Holidays Monday, December 3rd at 11:00 am Registration is required. No PTPLD card necessary. Cherity Machnick from the Stickney Township Public Health District, Behavioral Health Division will present a workshop on reducing stress over the holidays. She will focus on recognizing the sources of stress, techniques for reducing stress, and how to limit stress caused by the winter holiday season.

Financial Planning 101 Saturday, December 8th at 1:00 pm Registration is required. No PTPLD card necessary. It is never too early, nor too late to begin thinking about your financial health. College, health care, retirement, and a myriad of other financial issues will surface through your life. Almost no one is immune to the financial issues that we all address. Kick off 2019 with a healthy financial start. This program is co-sponsored by the Heartland Institute of Financial Education, Stickney Township and Prairie Trails Public Library District.

Bicentennial Bash Tuesday, December 11th at 6:30 pm Registration is required. No PTPLD card necessary. On December 3, 2018, the great state of Illinois will be 200 years old! A birthday this monumental cannot go uncele-brated. Terry Lynch’s program, “Happy Illinois Bicentennial Birthday Bash”, will discuss everything from Illinois ’ early years, historical happenings, famous Illinoisans, as well as supplemental online info on Illinois counties as the big date draws near. Finally, there’s just one thing to say…It’s Gonna Be a Party!

Ugly Prey: an Innocent Woman and the Death Sentence that Scandalized Jazz Age Chicago Tuesday, December 18th at 6:30 pm Registration is required. No PTPLD card necessary. An Italian immigrant who spoke little English and struggled to scrape together a living on her primitive family farm outside Chicago, Sabella Nitti was arrested in 1923 for the murder of her missing husband. Within two months, she was found guilty and became the first woman ever sentenced to hang in Chicago. Wright Brothers, Wrong Story: How Wilbur Wright Solved the Problem of Manned Flight Wednesday, December 12th at 7:00 pm Registration is required. No PTPLD card necessary. How could two misanthropic brothers who never left home, were high-school dropouts, and made a living as bicycle mechanics have figured out the secret of manned flight? This new history of the Wright brothers' monumental accomplishment focuses on their early years of trial and error at Kitty Hawk (1900-1903) and Orville Wright's epic fight with the Smithsonian Institute and Glenn Curtis. Welcome back author and historian William Hazelgrove to discuss his new book Wright Brothers, Wrong Story.

register up to 2 guests. Coloring is a relaxing activity that adults can enjoy, too. Come join us for an evening of coloring and

conversation. We provide the coloring pages, colored pencils,

and peaceful environment. You sit back, relax, and color! Light refreshments will be served.

Wild Prairie Book Club Thursday, December 20th at 7p.m.

No registration required. Join us in discussing Jhumpa Lahiri’s The Lowlands. Copies will be made available at the Circulation Desk following the previous month’s program on Thursday, November 15th, 2018.
