Advancing the

the Industry.

CREW Network Involvement: The decision to accept the invitation to host the

2013 CREW Network Convention & Marketplace was made in 2011 and therefore the

direct involvement with CREW Network has been a major area of growth over the last

few years. Having the National Convention in our backyard gave CREW Dallas

members who had not previously attended a Convention a chance to experience it.

The attendance from local members was record breaking with 137 in attendance.

There were many highlights from Convention that made CREW Dallas shine. The

Convention Committees worked tirelessly to plan and execute an Insider Tour, Net

Walks each morning, Excursions and Leisure activities that provided all Convention

attendees the opportunity to network and gain knowledge. For the 2nd year in a

CREW Dallas was honored to serve as the Host Chapter for the 2013 National

Convention & Marketplace! This special opportunity comes once every few

decades and Dallas was ready to shine. Our Chapter welcomed over 1,200

CREW Members representing all major markets in the United States.

In a year where our Chapter received so much national attention, it was important

to the Board to leverage that for membership growth, to attract new sponsors,

and to elevate the brand within the business community. Equally important was

the need to focus on local activities so that our own Chapter identity didn’t get

lost. We were able to achieve balance by using resources wisely and maximizing

national exposure which kept us on track with our strategic plan.

The goals of CREW Dallas are:

1. Provide effective networking and business development opportunities.

2. Assist our members in developing and improving their business and profes-

sional skills.

3. Provide a sustainable infrastructure maximizing human capital and financial

resources.

4. Enhance the recognition of CREW Dallas members for their achievements in

the real estate industry and community.

row, a CREW Dallas member was honored with the Circle

of Excellence award. Diane Paddison, the 2013 Award Re-

cipient is in great company with Eliza Solender, 2012

Award Recipient.

AdvanceMent: CREW Dallas members enjoyed a third

year of mini-business networking groups through Advance-

Ment. The groups are assigned by industry discipline and/or

location. Members who participated in the 2012/2013 pro-

gram gained valuable business contacts, referral sources,

market information and a better understanding of the value

of intentional networking. In July 2013, AdvanceMent re-

turned and over 40 members joined groups. There was a

new group added, Golf 101, for members who wanted to

learn to play golf.

Monthly Luncheons: Our Monthly Luncheon committee is known for securing relevant speakers to address important

topics that impact the industry and general business community. The local media regularly and consistently features

the monthly luncheons. Topics in 2013 included: How the Changes at DISD Impact the Business Community, Deep

Ellum Development Revival, How the Convention and Visitors Bureau is Moving Ahead in 2013, What are North

Texas office tenants seeking in 2013? And what are the challenges and opportunities they'll encounter along the way?,

Expectations to Realty-- The Amazing Success of the Perot Museum of Nature and Science, Dallas Business on Ster-

oids- Midtown, The next generation of a business district, artist community and entertainment destination, An Update

on Conditions in the Regional Economy and the Outlook, ESQ'ing Minds: CREW Lawyers Tell (Almost) All and The

Economic Outlook for Real Estate Investors and Decision Makers.

Structured networking has allowed members and guests to capitalize on the time together at the Luncheons and for that

reason our luncheons have had a steady attendance with an average of 119 for the past 3 years even though business

has picked up and professionals are finding themselves with limited time to get out of the office.

Our annual Holiday Luncheon Program was a time to celebrate the many successes of our members and the organiza-

tion. The Ritz-Carlton has offered a festive environment enjoyed by all! Members continue to enjoy the benefit of the

organization underwriting approximately 30% of each member’s ticket.

Member Services Events: We held two signature networking/member service events that were free to members.

These include the annual networking fashion show and the fall wine tasting. In addition, members enjoyed the various

CREW Cocktail happy hours, the annual dine arounds in members’ homes and the opportunity to get creative and paint

at the “CREW Canvas & Cocktails” event.

Collaborative Networking Events: The annual joint networking event with CREW, NAIOP and CORENet was at-

tended by over 125 professionals in early February and was followed by a joint luncheon with CCIM later in the

month. Collaborative events offer busy professionals a way to leverage their membership with the association they

belong to by providing an outlet to meeting new contacts, grow business opportunities and learn more about the other

associations.

Membership: CREW Dallas membership remains steady with approximately 300 members in the association. There

was a 3% increase in membership after the 2013 renewal period and a 4% decrease after the 2014 renewal period. At the

end of 2013, we had a –1% loss in membership. There remains a concentrated effort on retention and a heightened fo-

cus on new recruitment for 2014.

Total money collected for membership dues: $98,629.09 Sponsorship: We raised $58,975 via 22 corporate sponsors and many in-kind sponsors. (See pages 9-11 for sponsor recognition.)

Leadership Education: Members have greatly benefitted from The 2012/2013 SMU/CREW Leadership certificate

program launched in 2012 and concluded in October of 2013. CREW Dallas was proud to recognize 44 people at the

December Holiday Awards Luncheon with their SMU/CREW Leadership certificates. Over 80 individuals attended

at least one session.

It has been estimated

that 23 people who at-

tended the series saw an

advancement in their

career either through a

new opportunity or pro-

motion during the se-

ries. Topics that were included in the series during 2013 were Leadership Styles: The Impact on Business Results,

What Motivates You?, Value-Based Leadership and Extraordinary Results Through Centered Leadership. After care-

ful evaluation through surveys and focus groups, the organization has decided to continue our partnership with SMU

and through extensive collaboration created the 2014/2015 SMU/CREW Strategic Leadership Communication Certif-

icate that offers an extension to the 2012/2013 program and includes new topics through October 27, 2015.

Lunch & Learns: CREW Dallas members got a sneak peak of select Lunch & Learns in preparation of the full ex-

cursions planned for the 2013 CREW Network Convention. The tours were well received by members who planned

on attending convention as well as those who were not able to attend. The trial runs of the Lunch & Learns was a way

to get everyone involved in the planning efforts and receive valuable feedback. Many of the members enjoyed touring

Dallas as if they were a tourist and some learned new facts about our city. The excursions were then perfected for the

larger Convention crowd.

Lunch & Learns are mostly facilitated by CREW Dallas members so that the chapter can utilize the immense exper-

tise and knowledge we have within our organization. Valuable personal and professional development can be at-

tained by being a speaker or attendee.

ance was off set by $47,259.84 less in budgeted expenses. The good financial stewardship of the organiza-

tion year after year is essential for CREW Dallas to remain a stable and financially strong

organization in which our members can count on increased benefits year to year without frequent increases

in membership dues. The last dues increase was during the 2008 renewal season.

The CREW Dallas Golf Classic:

CREW in the Commu-

nity (the philanthropic

arm of CREW Dallas)

celebrated the 27h An-

nual CREW Dallas

Golf Classic on April

15th at Las Colinas

Country Club. The

CREW Dallas golf

Classic is made possi-

ble each year through

the many loyal sponsors who make it a priority to support the

tournament. Thanks again to the dedicated committee who gave

of their time and talents many hours to ensure the tournament was

extremely successful!

Grants: In 2011, the CREW in the Community Board approved

to shift the annual grant cycle in order to align with the Dallas

Women’s Foundation Fall Grant Cycle. Therefore, the 2012

fundraising proceeds were combined with 2013 to get us on

schedule and this resulted in more significant gifts to the benefi-

ciaries of CREW in the Community in 2013. The total amount

granted was $174,725.66. This included $28,366.62 from the Do-

nor Advised Fund we have at Dallas Women’s Foundation.

UCREW: University Outreach: The UCREW committee hosted career panels at local universities including

Southern Methodist University and University of Texas at Dallas. In addition to the informative career panels, we

held two student mixers in which attendees had an opportunity to network with CREW members to gain valuable

industry information, contacts and networking skills. CREW Dallas was also present at a career fair at TCU where a

committee member showcased the current job openings posted in our recent newsletters by several members’ com-

panies.

CREW Careers Building Opportunities ®: CREW in the Commu-

nity held its successful CREW Careers® program for the 9th year. This

program has become a leading source for experience-based education and

special opportunities for young women as they make plans for life after

high school and college. In 2013, the event expanded from hosting 25

students from the Irma Lerma Rangel Young Women’s Leadership School

to now more than 60 students from six partner schools in the Dallas

Independent School District.

The one day event, “Construction Junction, What’s Your Function”, of-

fered a hands-on interactive program where the students worked on an

actual development project. The development consisted of three acres of

vacant land located adjacent to the 4100 Harry Hines building in the Oak

Lawn neighborhood. The students learned details about the vacant lot

from Jon Donahue of CDK Realty Advisors, and walked the site. With

help from CREW members, the teams created plans to create a sustainable

development. Each team presented their ideas to the panel of judges com-

prised of professionals in the business or the CDK property.

The judges scored the projects on how the students incorporated commer-

cial real estate knowledge, addressed physical features of the site, an-

swered questions, and used real estate terms. The winning team was from

Trinidad Trini Garza Early College High School. They will have bragging

rights until the schools meet again in 2014 for another round of CREW

Careers.

The following schools participated in CREW Careers in 2013:

· Irma Lerma Rangel Young Women’s Leadership School

· School of Business and Management at Yvonne A. Ewell Townview Center

· Trinidad Trini Garza Early College High School

· Rose M. Collins Sorrells School of Education & Social Services

· Thomas Jefferson High School

· Moises E. Molina High School

Personal Philanthropy and Education:

The CREW in the Community Board of Trustees tweaked the annual personal philanthropy campaign from a year-

end ask to a personal giving campaign during the months of June and July so that the money raised could be com-

bined with the grants made in 2013. The goal of the campaign was to bridge the gap between the desired net pro-

ceeds and actual which was equivalent to $5,000. This was the first time there had been a set monetary goal for the

campaign and the result was a 40% increase in funds raised over the prior year. The total for the personal philan-

thropy campaign was $3,135 and 15% of our membership contributed. The Board of Trustees recognizes that our

membership contributes to the community in a variety of ways by either time, in-kind professional services/skills or

donations and was thrilled with the result of the campaign. CREW Network also launched a personal giving cam-

paign to the members of the Network which was successful and will likely grow with each year.
