Government College for Girls, Gurgaon: An Introduction
Strategically located in the heart of IT hub of India on the infamous Gurgaon-
Mehraulli (MG) road and barely half Kilometer from the Inter State Bus Stand
of Gurgaon, Govt. College, Sector-14, Gurgaon is one of the most prestigious
and premiere institutions of Haryana. This is incidentally not only the largest
Girls College of the state but also the biggest college where 142 posts of
teachers are sanctioned, which is by far the maximum in the state. Not only in
Haryana, Government College, Sector-14, Gurgaon is one of the most reputed
college in Northern India especially NCR region. It has been declared
as “College of Excellence” by the Haryana Government.
Government College, Sector-14, Gurgaon has a unique distinction that it’s
foundation was laid down by the First Prime Minister of India Pt. Jawahar Lal
Nehru in 1959. The College was worthy blessed by the benign presence of the
First President of India Dr. Rajender Prasad on its first convocation. The first
women Prime Minister of India, the Iron Lady Smt. Indira Gandhi also graced
this college by her visit. Among other significant personalities that visited this
college wasGianiZail Singh, fifth President of India.
Govt. College for Girls, Gurgaon has made and all round development in all
fields and is privileged with unique recognition through its glorious past and its
modern, scientific and technological aspects that has been adapting since its
inception in 1959. It is one of the most important and sought after education
institutes of Haryana. During the academic session of 2015-16, total of 6980
students were enrolled in 25 different course offered by the college comprising
of 6974 girls and 06 boys. The college apart from offering undergraduate
courses in science, arts and commerce also offers postgraduate courses in
English, Geography, Commerce and Music. The college offers job oriented
courses like B.Sc (Biotechnology), BCA and B.Sc(Home Sc). The college has also
made name in the field of computer education, courses like MCA and
M.Sc(Comp Sc) courses are being offered by the college. The college allows
coeducation in Music PG courses only.
During the current session following the lines of illustrious and glorious past
students have achieved a number of feats in various fields under the
remarkable guidance and mentoring the dedicated teachers.

The College Family
1. Staff: Presently apart from the Principal, college has a total of 86
Teachers, one Senior Librarian, One Restorer, One Senior Lab Assistant,
08 Junior Lab Assistants, 13 Lab Assistants, One Table Player, One Hostel
Superintendant, One Type Writing Instructor, One Nurse and 04 Fourth
Class employees.
2. Bursar: Dr. Mukesh Kumar, Assistant Professor in Commerce has been
successfully acting as Bursar.
3. Superannuation: During the last academic session Smt. Indu Jain
(Principal), Sh. Vijay Singh (Assoc Prof in Geography), Smt. Anita Popli
(Assoc Prof in English), Smt. Anita Gupta (Assoc Prof in Commerce), Smt.
Anita Behl (Assoc Prof in Home Sc), Sh. Chand Kishore (JLA), Sh. Rajender
Kumar (LA) and Mohd. Isreal (Fourth Class) superannuated. The College
wishes for their happy and prosperous future.
Academic Achievements by the Staff
I feel elated by highlighting that like past many years, this year also the
Teachers of the College remained conscious about their academic
achievements. A number of staff members excelled in the field of academics
through their unique achievements which includes
1. Dr. Lokesh Sharma (Assistant Professor in Music (Vocal)) remained very
active during the whole year and
a. He published two books entitled “Sangeetanjali Geet Sangrha”and
“Bhartiya Sangeeet Ki Prachin Vidha”
b. He was nominated as member “PG Board of Studies” in MDU,
Rohtak.
c. He was included into “Member of Board of Examiners” of Delhi
University.
d. He was nominated as honorary member of “Sugam Sangeet Sawar
Pariksha” by All India Radio Delhi.
e. He acted as judge during Zonal Youth Festival of Kurukshetra
University.
f. He participated in a refresher course conducted by Guru Nanak
Dev University, Amritsar.

g. He achieved an honor of anchoring the Cultural Program of
Gammy Award Winner Pt. Vishwamohan Bhatt organized by North
Regional Cultural Centre Patiala at Guru Nanak Dev University,
Amritsar.
2. Dr. Anjana Anand (Assistant Prof in Botany) participated in UGC
Sponsored Orientation Course during 08.02.2016 to 04.03.2016 at JNU,
New Delhi.
3. Dr Gulshan Kumari (Assistant Professor in Mathematics) revised the text
book entitled “Partial Differential Equation” for B.A./B.Sc-IIIrd Semester
published by Jeevan Sons Publications.
4. Dr. Mukesh Sharma (Associate Professor in Commerce) also did not left
behind and
a. Attended one week short term program, during 22.11.2015 to
28.11.2015, on the topic of “E-Governance and E-Learning” of
Rajasthan University, Jaipur.
b. He co-authored a text book bearing ISBN 978-93-272-6178-3 and
entitled “Corporate Accounting” published by Kalyani Publishers
and prescribed for B.Com IIIrd and IVth Semester students.
c. He co-authored a text book bearing ISBN 978-93-272-6177-6 and
entitled “Financial Accounting” published by Kalyani Publishers
and prescribed for B.Com Ist and IInd Semester students.
5. Smt. Sunita Dhillon, Assoc Professor in Political Science published three
research papers in various journals during her two year doctorate
studies for PhD. She also presented a paper entitled “Role of Media in
Parliamentary Government” at National Seminar held at K. L. Mehta
Dayanand College, Faridabad on 15.03.2016.
6. During the Annual Prize Distribution Function of MDU, Rohtak Assoc Prof
Smt. Sushma Sharma and Assist Prof. Dr Lokesh Sharma were honored
by issuing an appreciation letter and memento as recognition of their
extraordinary work in the field of Cultural Activities. During this award
function Dr Chetna Sehrawat, Principal was also honored with an
Appreciation Letter for her commendable work during cultural activities
in the college.

Infrastructure and Learning Resources
College Library
College received a grant-in-aid of Rs. 3,00,000/- during the session 2015-16 for
strengthening of the library infrastructure. The grant was utilized for
modernization of library through purchase of 03 computers, 01 scanner, 01
printer, 01 lamination machine, 02 inverter batteries. Books worth Rs.
1,46,300/- were added to the college library and the process of automation of
library was carried out further. College library system was upgraded to SOUL
2.0 from SOUL 1.0. Both borrowing and return of the book is now done in
automated fashion through computers. Automation has greatly helped
students as well as staff by reducing the search time. We are also utilizing the
OPAC module of SOUL. Students can search books through title, author name,
subject, class no. or accession no. over this module. College plans to add the
facility of e-books and e-Journals to the library. College is working in the
direction of converting the library into an e-Library.
Presently the college library contains 43819 books in the general section and
further 18353 books in the UGC section. College has subscribed 16 daily
newspapers and 12 monthly magazines for the benefit of students.
“Ramanik”: The College Magazine
Annual College Magazine named “Ramanik” provides an opportunity for
development of original and creative ideas among the students. Editorial role
for different sections of the magazine was played by a team of experienced
and learned teachers. Dr Rajvir Singh Gaur, Dr Sunita Sheoran, Dr. Kiran Bala,
Smt. Madhu Sahni and Smt. Sunita Yadav played the role of Editor for the
sections of English, Hindi, Sanskrit, Science and Economics respectively.
College Dispensary
College has the facility of dispensary for students as well as staff working under
Smt. Shobha Narang, Assoc Prof, Smt. Gulshan Kumari, Assist Prof and Ms.
Meenakshi, who is permanent nurse posted at the college. This dispensary
provides the students with First Aid Facility and Immediate Attention.
Dispensary provides First Aid Facility to the girls residing in the hostels.
Seriously ill or injured students are thereby taken to the nearby hospitals.

College Hostels
College has four girls hostels named “Narmada”, “Ganga”, “Kavery” and
“Saryu”. Around 650 students reside in these hostels. While under-graduate
students are accommodated in Narmada”, “Ganga” &“Kavery”, “Saryu” is
reserved exclusively for post-graduate students. Students are provided with
every possible facility and sufficient study environment in these hostels. Every
hostel is surrounded by soothing green environment and lush lawns. Students
residing in the hostels do physical exercise in these lawns. Benches have been
erected to create sitting arrangements for the students. A tuck-shop has been
created in the hostels to provide daily use items to the students; this avoids
unnecessary dependency on the outside markets.
To welcome new students a fresher party is organized in the hostel and
similarly outgoing students are afforded a farewell party towards the end of
every session. Students are extended a chance of anchoring and presenting
their talent during these functions. A healthy environment is created by
celebrating most of the important festival like “Teez”, Diwali, Lohri and Holi.
Independence Day and the Republic day are also celebrated with full
enthusiasm and feeling of patriotism is inculcated among students. Hostel
students are encouraged to participate and play an active role in other college
fests and competitions. Hostel trips are organized to Trade Fair and Surajkund
Fair during the months of November and February respectively. Hostels are
looked after by the Chief Warden Smt. Shashi Bala and her team comprising of
wardens Smt. Reeta Gaur, Smt. Archana Hooda, Smt. Sangeeta Bhatia, Smt.
Gian Devi and assisted by Smt. Sarla Gupta (Hostel Superintendant).
Co-curricular Activities
Cultural Activities
The college kick started its cultural activities on 24.08.2015 with “Talent Search
Competition”. In this a total of 20 competitions were held. Around 200
students participated in different competitions. First, Second, Third and
Consolation Prizes were disturbed among students. The details of Prizes are
annexed as Annexure-I.

Zonal Youth Festival
“Zonal Youth Festival” for the Gurgaon Zone was held at Pt. J.L.N. College,
Faridabad during 26.10.2015 to 28.10.2015. Our college students participated
in different competitions during this event and bagged a number of prizes. The
list of prize winners during is annexed as Annexure-II.
Inter Zonal Youth Festival
Three days Inter Zonal Youth Festival was held at KIIT Institution Gurgaon
during 07.11.2015 to 09.11.2015. In this event number of our students

“Anugunz” : The College Fest
During 08th and 9th of March 2016, a two days Cultural Festival: Anugunz was
organized in the college. During this Inter College Fest students from local and
other nearby colleges participated. The fest was inaugurated with the
lightening of lamp by Sh. Vinay Kumar, Vice Principal. A total of 18
competitions were held during this mega event. First, Second and Third prizes
were distributed among the participants. The list of victorious students of our
college is annexed as Annexure-III.
Team behind extraordinary performance in the field of cultural activities
During the session 2015-16 various cultural activities were held under the
guidance of Sh. Pradyuman Singh, Associate Professor and Sh. Lokesh Sharma,
Assistant Professor in Music.

Sports
1. Manisha (B.Com-IInd Year) secured Gold Medal with First Position in
National Level Taekwondo competition. She has earlier secured Bronze
Medal in State Level competition. Owing to this performance she also
became eligible to participate in the Olympics from Haryana and
represent India.
2. Simran (B.A.-I) secured Bronze Medal in National Level Competition in
Taekwondo. She also became eligible to participate in the Olympics from
Haryana.
3. Nisha (B.A.-II) secured Bronze Medal in National Level Competition in
Taekwondo.
4. Preeti (B.Sc-I) is an emerging talent in the field of sports, she won Gold
medal in Medal in National Level Competition in Taekwondo.
5. Priyanka (B.Com-II) won Bronze Medal in State Level Competition in
Taekwondo.
6. Ronak (B.Sc-I) won Bronze Medal in National Level Competition in
Taekwondo (Senior Level).
7. Mamta (B.A.-III) bagged Third Position in Judo Competition at MDU
Level.
8. Alka (B.A.-II) bagged second position in Boxing Competition at MDU
Level.
9. Monika (B.A.-II) bagged third position in Boxing Competition at MDU
Level.
10. Ambadi (M.Sc-I) has established herself as National Level Cricket Player.
11. Manisha (B.A.-I) won third prize at Inter Varsity Hockey Competition. She
is a national level player.
12. Pooja (B.Com-I) was declared as “Best Athlete” for the Academic Year.
NSS
College is having three NSS units that are working towards realization of NSS
Motto “NOT ME, BUT YOU”. Various activities of NSS were carried out
throughout the year. Some notable activities undertaken were:

1. To start with, “Tree Plantation Drive” was organized on 15th Aug, 2015.
During this trees were planted in the college premises under the
guidance of various NSS Incharges.
2. Under “Beti BachaoBeti Padhao Abhiyan” (Save Girl child Educate Girl
child) a rally was organized on 3rd Sep, 2015 from Gurgaon stadium to
the maiden women police station in sector -43, Gurgaon.
3. “Youth voter’s festival” was celebrated in college on 14th Sept. 2015.
Five college ambassadors of NSS were selected for the SVEEP
(Systematic Voter’s Education and Electoral participation) campaign.
4. NSS day was celebrated on 24th Sep. 2015 in college.
5. A campaign on “Swatch Bharat Swatch Haryana” was organized on 11th
Oct 2015. It was kick started with a rally by NSS students from “Gaushala
Maidan” to Maharana Pratap chowk in Gurgaon.
6. One day cleanliness camp was organized by program officer Indu Rathi,
Incharge of Unit-I, on 22nd Sept.2015. 90 students participated in this
one day camp.
7. One day cleanliness camp was organized by the program officers Anjana
Anand, Manju & Indu Rathi involving all the three NSS units on 23rd Oct.
2015.
8. Voter’s day was celebrated in college on 25th Jan.2016. During this
speech and poster making competition were organized on the topic
“Loktantra ki jaan Mat, Matdata aur Matdaan”. The winners of the

NCC
The College has one unit of NCC with Ms Gian Devi action as CTO and the unit
is a part of 2 Har Girls Bn NCC, Rohtak with Col. S.S.Dabas as Commanding
Officer. The present permitted strength is 54 cadets (18 cadets for first year, 22
cadets for second year and 14 for Third year) of this unit. The NCC unit of our
college is very dynamic and enthusiastic and objective of this unit is to instill

patriotism in the hearts and minds of young generation. To start with, 18 new
students were enrolled with the Unit during the month of August. A team of
selectors headed by the Lt. Col. Rajpal Singh of 2 Hr Girls Bn NCC, Rohtak
along with 4 members of PI staff were present for the formal induction
ceremony. The major activities undertaken by the unit includes
1. The parade session started from August where the cadet contribution
was remarkable. They have performed magnificently through prompt
and active participation in the various activities held during the camps.
Total 42 parades were held during this year (Every Monday and Friday).
2. 36 NCC Cadets participated in “Swacch Bharat Abhiyan” Rally in Gau-
Shala Ground on 11 October , 2015. Chief Guest was Sh. Ram Bilas
Sharma, education Minister of Haryana of this rally.
3. 22 Cadets attended the program of ‘Vigilance Awareness Week’ on Nov.
2015 at Power Grid, Gurgaon.
4. 28 Cadets participated in the program of “Women Empowerment” at
Women Police Gurgaon on Sept. 2015.
5. Live telecast of show over projector “ Stand up ,Start Up India”
inaugurated by Hon’ble PM Sh. Narender Modi on 16th Jan 2015 by all
NCC cadets.
6. During the whole year’s training, the cadets were inculcated with the
qualities of character building, discipline, secular outlook,
sportsmanship, national integration and selfless service. Our cadets have
attended following different training camps during this academic year.

NCC Unit Achievements
1. One of our NCC Cadets, Rohini, was selected as Best Cadet for Rohtak
Group and thereby represented in Army Camp, Ropar (Punjab). She
attended two DCAT camp, participated in dance competition and acted
as Mice controller. This selection of Rohini was through Republic Day
Camp (RDC) in the month of Sept. & Oct. 2015 (52 days).
2. NCC Cadet Kamini donated blood in a camp held by Red Cross Society
under District Administration, Gurgaon on 28th March 2016. She also
attended the camp of Youth Red Cross Society.
Legal Literacy Cell
Under the guidance of Haryana State Legal Service Authority, Legal Literacy
Cell of the college worked throughout the year to achieve the motto of "Access
to Justice for All". In accordance with the guidance of "Student Legal Literacy
Mission" a Student Legal Literacy Club is setup with Dr. Sandeep Maan,
Assistant Professor in Computer Science was appointed as "Teacher-in-charge"
in accordance with SLLM mission Document 2009. Dr Sunita Dhaka, Assistant
Professor in Public Administration and Mrs. Gian Devi, Assistant Professor in
Computer Science were the other designated member of the club.
Examination Branch
Examinations related activities in the College were ably managed and
regulated by the Examination Controller Sh. Pradyuman Singh and his team
including Smt. Madhuraj, Smt. Sudarshan Ahuja, Sh. Ajay Bansal, Sh. Kuldeep
Yadav and Smt. Geetika. Two monthly-tests were held during the months of
October and November. The students were given internal assessment marks as
per their performance in different subjects during these tests. Towards the end
of every month, students who remained absent during the month were fined
and names of the students who remained absent continuously for six days
were struck-off from the college. Readmission was given only after receiving
the accent of the Principal. As per the guidelines of MDU, Rohtak, subject of
“Environmental Sciences” was made compulsory for the first year students of

B.Sc. B.Com and B.A. The annual examination of EVS was held on 18th April.
Apart from the semester examinations, convocation function and annual prize
distribution functions are also held under the guidance of this department.
Examination Results
The college has a past of commendable performance during the University
Examinations. Again, the college results were better than those of university
during both Dec 2014 and May 2015 Semester Examinations. I feel elated and
proud in announcing that as many as 224 students of the college secured place
in various university merit lists. Out of these 17 students topped the university
examinations and made us proud. The details are annexed as Annexure-IV.
