am very happy to know that the CSR activities
planned for financial year 2015-16 have been
executed successfully in time and in accordance
with the DPE guidelines. The company has
incurred a total expenditure of ₹1.09 Crores against
a sanctioned budget of ₹1.07 Crores. In recognition
to our CSR activities, we were rewarded the First
prize in CSR Awards, HR-SUMMIT 2016
organized by Datta Meghe Institute of
Management Studies, Nagpur in collaboration with
National Institute of Personnel Management
(NIPM), Nagpur Chapter.
The focus of CSR activities was mainly the rural
areas of Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh,
Chhattisgarh, Karnataka, Jharkhand, Telangana,
Odisha, Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh. It
includes construction of toilets, bore wells, water
tanks and RO for promoting sanitation and safe
drinking water. Apart from these, hospitals were
provided with medical equipment, meritorious
students were given scholarships and cycles were distributed to female students for women
empowerment. MECL also participated in the Skill India initiative of the Government of
India by training 100 participants in various skills like Data entry Operator, Fitter fabrication
and Micro Retail Entrepreneur. Overall, this has been a very eventful year for CSR initiatives
aiming at holistic development of rural India.
I would like to convey my thanks to all the Directors of the Board for their valuable
contribution and cooperation which enabled the company to achieve the targets. I would also
like to congratulate all the GMs, DGMs, HODs, Project Managers, Nodal Officer (CSR) and
the CSR team at corporate Office for putting in their efforts in accomplishing the CSR
objectives.

CSR Committee
MECL has committed to contribute towards development of rural India through Corporate
Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives. Developmental activities are undertaken in and
around the project locations of MECL in accordance with the DPE guidelines and the MECL
CSR Policy, 2015. For this purpose, following committees have been constituted.
1. Board Level CSR Committee The Board level CSR committee has been constituted with the approval of Board of Directors
of MECL and its constitution is as under:

The Companies Act, 2013 – Schedule VII,
Section 135
Schedule VII, Section 135 of the Companies Act, 2013 provides a list of activities which may
be included by companies in their CSR Policies. An extract of the same is provided in
Table3.
Clause Activities
(i) Eradicating hunger, poverty and malnutrition, [promoting health care
including preventing health care] and sanitation and making available
safe drinking water
(ii) Promoting education, including special education and employment
enhancing employment skills especially among children, women,
elderly, and the differently abled and livelihood enhancement projects
(iii) Promoting gender equality, empowering women, setting up homes and
hostels for women and orphans; setting up old age homes, day care
centres and such other facilities for senior citizens and measures for
reducing inequalities faced by socially and economically backward
groups
(iv) Ensuring environmental sustainability, ecological balance, protection
of flora and fauna, animal welfare, agroforestry, conservation of
natural resources and maintaining quality of soil, air and water
(v) Protection of natural heritage, art and culture including restoration of
buildings and sites of historical importance and works of art; setting up
public libraries; promotion and development of traditional arts and
handicrafts
(vi) Measures for the benefit of armed forces veterans, war widows and
their dependents
(vii) Training to promote rural sports, nationally recognised sports,
Paralympic sports and Olympic sports
(viii) Contribution to the Prime Minister's National Relief Fund or any other
fund set up by the Central Government for socio-economic
development and relief and welfare of the scheduled Castes, the
Scheduled Tribes, other backward classes, minorities and women
(ix) Contributions or funds provided to technology incubators located
within academic institutions which are approved by the Central
Government
(x) Rural development Projects

CSR | FY 2015-16
In line with Section 135 of the Companies Act, 2013 and MECL CSR policy, 2015, the CSR
expenditure in every financial year should be at least 2% of the average net profits of the
company made during 3 immediately preceding financial years.
The net profits for the last three years i.e. FY13, FY14 and FY15 are ₹ 20.66 Crores, ₹
38.23 Crores and ₹ 91.59 Crores respectively. Thus, the average net profit is ₹ 50.16
Crores. Accordingly, a total allocation of ₹ 1.07 Crores was made towards CSR expenditure
for FY16.
A total expenditure of ₹ 1.09 Crores has been incurred for CSR activities in FY16. The
excess expenditure incurred during the year is ₹ 2.5 Lakhs.
