Coffee Science (Activity grant) September 5th 2015 (Starting date)
Coffee Science takes place monthly during scholar activities. It’s an outdoor activity for students, teachers and researchers to share experiences in science, study and personal life. The researchers are interviewed about their student years memories, experiences, etc.
General numbers:
5 invited researchers.
220 attendees approximately.
160 liters of coffee sponsored by the chapter.
12 kilograms of cookies sponsored by the chapter.

Night of art and stars (Activity grant)
November 20th, 2015 Guadalajara, Jal. Mexico.
This event took place inside our campus and it was open for all audiences. The attendees were able to move to any area and participate in the activities, which included astronomical observation, a keth tournament, the 13th coffee science, many scientific demonstrations and the performance of artists from our university.

FIL (Ferial Internacional del libro) “Discovering the light” 2015
November 13th, 2015 Guadalajara, Jal. Mexico.
This event took place at the “Expo Guadalajara” facility, there we had a meeting with 150 kids from the #224 “Año de Juarez”, elementary school. This event had workshops about optics and photonics experiments. At the
end kids made spectroscopes.

Winter workshops (Activity grant)
January 11th to January 15th, 2016 Guadalajara, Jal. Mexico
Workshops organized by chapter members. There were seven workshops. The subjects were: Data Acquisition with Arduino, Use of NI LabView with Arduino, Introduction to Latex, Matlab basic, 3D design with Openscad and Design of PCBs.
The workshop’s teachers were chapter’s members, and the main idea was to transmit knowledge of some tools used for scientific and technological projects. We had attendees from bachelors, masters and doctoral students.
General numbers:

Merida, Yuc. Mexico.
For this event we sent a chapter member to Merida, Yucatan. He assisted to this event as a staff member and he was able to attended some conferences and meetings with important SPIE members from all around the world.

Prof. Toyohiko Yatagai’s Visit. February 12th, 2016
Guadalajara, Jal. Mexico.
In that day we got a meeting with the former president of SPIE Toyohiko Yatagai. He offered us an open speech for University students, a direct interview with the Chapter members about his life and research. Some Chapter members explained their Works with a presentation of posters and at the end he had an informal meeting with our chapter members with some tacos for food.

DivecFest participation March 8th, 2016
Guadalajara, Jal. Mexico.
The DivecFest is an anual event celebrated in our University. For this event many conferencist and industries were invited including our student chapter. Our participation was in two workshops: Pinhole Camera and Spectroscope. Those workshops were an explanation of those optical phenomena and finish with the construction of an elementary instrument of both of them.
General numbers: 8 chapter members attended 2 different outreach wokshops.
Summer workshops (Activity grant) May 30th to June 3rd, 2016

Workshops organized by chapter members. There were eight workshops. June 17th, 2016 Guadalajara, Jal. Mexico.
We invited children between thirteen and fifteen years old from secondary school Agustin Yañez number 8 from Villa Corona, Jalisco to visit our campus (CUCEI) and learn some basic principles of physics and math by playing. This year’s event was focused in experiments about light and electromagnetism. The workshops were Optical Illusions, Dark Room, Magnetism and Electricity, Spectroscope, Outdoor optics and Radio CUCEI.

Exposition “Jugando con Fotones: Desviando la Luz” (Playing with Photons: Deflecting the light) at Public Library of Jalisco
July 9th, 2016 Guadalajara, Jal. Mexico.
This event was an open workshop to anybody and took place at Jalisco State Public Library “Juan José Arreola". It had experiments about light with explanations for people of all ages, therefore, the expositions got a good response from families and helped parents to make children have more interest in science.

Visiting the National Institute of Astrophysics, Optics and Electronics August 17th, 2016
Tonantzintla, Puebla. Mexico.
The National Institute of Astrophysics, Optics and Electronics held a National Meeting of Mexico Chapters, and twenty seven members of our chapter attended, where they attended lectures, visited laboratories, organized a coffee science, attended a round table about the student chapters, and a scientific visit to the Solar Telescope and Schmidt Camera.

Planned activities for the future

Description: Updating and reorganizing our website so it is easier for website visitors to get relevant information and to know who to communicate with and how to subscribe to our student chapter and also make more diffusion of our social networks.
Visiting Lecture Program
Description: Thanks to the SPIE Visiting Lecture Program and the OSA Traveling Lecture Program, the chapter will organize a couple of conferences with researchers from other countries as well as some other activities like workshops and social meetings with the chapter and the invited researcher.
Chapter meeting
Description: To improve the relationship between our chapter members, this winter will be a “Posada”, a party for all the members and people willing to be part of the chapter.
Science diffusion
Description: Make events to show people of every age knowledge about science, focusing on young folks to get their attention and help them take more importance to science in their every day life.
Coffee Science MX
Description: Informal talks with a guest lecturer, at an open and outdoors place, for students, teachers and researchers to share experiences in science, study and personal life. Free coffee and lessons to play Khet to gather new students. This is an event that we plan to organize on a monthly basis. Besides it is a national project in México.
