Draft Minutes of 61 AGM held on 30 November 2018st th

Minutes of the 61 Annual General Meeting of Corporate Members of The Institution of Engineersst

(India), Pune Local Centre held on Friday, 30 November 2018 at 6.30 pm at The Institution's premisesth

1332, Shivajinagar, J.M. Road, Pune – 411 005.

Prof. Araddhana Deshmukh , Hon. Secretary welcomed the Corporate Members present & requested

Dr. G. S. Mundada Chairman to chair the meeting.,

� Before taking up the Agenda of the AGM, Prof. Araddhana Deshmukh, Hon. Secretaryrequested the house to observe two minutes' silence in memory of the deceased members ofPune Local Centre. The house rose & observed silence to pay homage to the deceased members.

� Chairman Dr. G.S. Mundada welcomed the members, called the meeting to order andrequested Hon. Secretary to proceed with the agenda.

1. To confirm the minutes of 60 AGM held on 28 October 2017th th

The minutes circulated were deliberated and confirmed unanimously. The resolution toconfirm the minutes was proposed by Er. MAToke and seconded by Er. VikasApte

2. To receive the Annual Report of the Activities of Pune Local Centrefor the year 2017-2018

TheAnnual report for 2017-18 was received unanimously after a brief discussion.The resolution to receive & accept the report was proposed by Er. P.P.Patil and seconded by

Dr. P.M. Deshpande.

3. To receive theAuditedAccounts for the year ending 31 March 2018.st

The Annual Audited Accounts for the year 2017-2018 as circulated and uploaded onwebsite were accepted unanimously. The resolution to receive & accept the auditedaccounts were proposed by Er. P.P.Patil. and seconded by Dr. D.J.Doke

4. To appoint the Auditor for the year 2018-2019 and to fix theirremuneration.

A panel of chartered accountants recommended by PLC Committee was presented toAGM for consideration.While appointing the Auditor for 2018-19, the AGM selected M/s Kotwal & Co. andresolved as follows:-Resolved that M/s. Kotwal & Co. be appointed as Statutory Auditor for the year 2018-2019 onremuneration of Rs. 15000/- + Service Tax/GST. The resolution to appoint Auditor wasproposed by Dr. S. B. Zope and seconded by Er.R.V.Saraf.

5. To announce the composition of Committee for the Session 2018-2020Dr. G S Mundada announced that Prof K K Ghosh and Prof. Araddhana Deshmukh have beenelected as Chairman and Hon. Secretary of the Pune Local Centre respectively for the Session2018-2020. He also announced the Composition of the Committee for the session 2018-2020and felicitated the Committee Members.

PART –AFunctioning of Pune Local Centre1.0 CONSTITUTIONAL

1.1 Corporate Membership-Membership (AMIE/MIE/FIE) of Centre increased from 5644 (on 31.03.2018 ) to 5913

(on 31.03.2019).1.2 Non Corporate Membership-

Membership (ST/T) increased from 26740(on 31.03.2018) to 27214 (on 31.03.2019)1.3 Institutional Membership

There are 13Institutional Members attached to Pune Local Centre of IEI.1.4 Other Subcommittees:

The Centre has one Finance Sub Committee consisting of Chairman,Hon. Secretary & Two Committee Members. This committee deals with all the financial

matters and recommends final actions to the main Committee of Pune Local Centre.1.5 PLC Committee Meetings:

During the report year 2018 -19, 12 meetings were held. The average attendance was 13.All the routine affairs & Technical activities were discussed and approved by the Committee.

3.3Activities at PCMC Extension CentreOn Second Thursday of every month, Technical activities in the form of lectures by experts in various

4.2 E-mail FacilitiesAll the information about technical programmes are sent to Corporate Members through bulkmail facility.

5.0 TECHNICIANS'/ STUDENTS' CHAPTER:

There are 44 Students Chapters under the local Centre. Regular meeting of Faculty Advisersof Student Chapters are arranged to help Student Chapters to conduct technical activities.

6.0 AMIE EXAMINATIONS:The Centre conductedAMIE Exams of SectionA& B on the stipulated dates in Summer &Winter 2018. During Summer-2018 exam, 1833 student and during winter-2018 Exam, 1724students were registered.

Report of Major Technical Activities

All India Seminar on “Engineering for Innovation to Product & Service”All India Seminar on “ ” as a part of AnnualEngineering for Innovation to Product & Service

Technical Paper Meet-2018 was held on 13 & 14 October 2018 at the Institution's premises under theth th

aegis of Interdisciplinary Coordination Committee (ICC) of IEI. In all, 53 research papers related to Civil,Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics, Computer, Production and Chemical Engg. divisions were acceptedfor presentation. 34 research papers were actually presented during this two days seminar in fourtechnical session.. These research papers were judged by panel of experts. 25 papers were selected forprinting in the Annual Technical Journal, Vol 42 of the Pune Local Centre. In Civil engg Div, paper titled“Bearing Capacity of Reinforced Fly Ash with Model Instrument” by Dr. Vidya Nitin Patil et al wasawarded best paper. In Mechanical, production and Marine Engg Div group, best paper was given to ShriAnurag Ramrao Lambor for his paper titled “Development of an Automatic Gate Operating Device”.Paper on “Value Stream Mapping With Infusion of Industry 4.0 Components: A Concept” by Lt col G GJoshi was awarded Best paper in Environmental. Architecture and Agriculture Engg Div.In Electronics&Computer Engg Div group, Shri Gaurang Suki et al was awarded best paper for his paper titled “DocBot:AMedical Consultant Chat Bot Using Deep Learning approach”.

World Telecommunication and Information Society Day

The World Telecommunication and Information Society Day (WTISD) was celebrated jointly by TheInstitution of Engineers (India), Pune Local Centre, Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers(IEEE), Pune Section, Institution of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers (IETE), Pune Centreand Institution of Engineering & Technology (IET), Pune Network, on Thursday 17 May 2018. The ICTtheme for the year was "Enabling the Positive Use ofArtificial Intelligence forAll". Er. Prashant Girbane,Director, Pune International Centre & Director General Designate at MCCIA, Pune. Was Chief Guest andDr. Harrick M. Vin, Global Head, Digitate, TCS. was invited as theme speaker and Guest of Honor.Prof.(Dr.) G. S. Mundada, Convener of the event & also Chairman of IEI-PLC, welcomed the gathering,mentioned the need of coming together for alike technical societies and move forward withinterdisciplinary approach . He spoke about IEI and also briefed the activities at PLC. Vice-chairmanIEEE, Pune Section, Er. Girish Khilari briefed about the activities of IEEE, Chairman IETE, Pune Centre,Er. G.K. Dawara talked about the activities of IETE, Prof. Dr. M. A. Joshi, Chair IET, Pune Network,narrated the activities of IET. Prof. V.B. Vaijapurkar introduced the theme "Enabling the Positive Use ofAI forAll" to the house. The Curricular Vitae (CV) of Guest of Honor & Theme Speaker, Dr. Vin was readby Dr. Rajashree Jain, Secretary, IEEE Pune Section while Chief Guest was introduced by Er. K. R.Shende, Secretary, IETE Pune Centre. Dr. G.S. Mundada &Er. G.K. Dawara felicitated the Chief Guestand whereas the Guest of Honor was felicitated by Prof. Dr. M.A. Joshi and Er. Girish Khilari.Dr. Harrick who has over 50 Patents, several publications and Editor/ Evaluator of many prestigiousjournals, elaborated as how augmentation in technology is making machines intelligent. He elaboratedmany applications including Driverless Car, Customer tracking at mall, memory capability of devicesand how these all are developed in customized way based on local conditions. He did mention that do notexpect machine to be smarter but the one who develops it. He expressed that in education, PCM & PCBshould not be isolated as Biology & Mathematics are the fundamental aspects to many developments andknowing both certainly gives an edge. The task of analyzing data through artificial intelligence andmachine learning techniques, with domain knowledge, will be the key to the development. Er. PrashantGirbane, gave background of the growth of telecommunications in our country and outlined the roleElectronic Cluster Foundation, which he currently looks after at MCCIA, in this era of rapid and vastdevelopment. He emphasized the role of telecoms in the economic growth and looked forward for a brightfuture for the country in this field. He appreciated the collaboration of 4 organizations, IEI, IETE, IEEE &IETof Pune region for the Celebration of World Telecommunication and Information Society Day. Thevote of thank was proposed by Er. Jagdish Chaudhari,IEEE Member.

World Environment Day

World Environment Day was celebrated on 12 June 2018 in association with Marathi Vidnyanth

Parishad Pune. Shri. Ramdas Kokare ,CO Karjat Nagar Palika & Dr.Samir Joshi Secretary Indian PlasticInstitute graced the function as Guest. Programme began with symbolic Vruksh Pujan by all thedignitaries on dias. Er. Rajendrakumar V Saraf welcomed the guest & the audience on behalf of IEI PuneLocal Centre. Er. R.V. Prof. Araddhana Deshmukh, Hon.Secretary & Er.V.N.Shinde, Past Hon.Secretary felicitated the guests. Shri Kokare informed about hisachievements at Dapoli, Vengurle & Karjat for reduction in solid Waste generation. He motivated thecitizen to stop using plastic carry bags. He also shown the photographs of appreciation of works & citationhe was received. Dr. Samir Joshi first explained how the plastic is thickly associated with developmentsince its invention. He said that Plastic is made out of the waste product from refinery. Plastic is almostused in all sectors of industry, domestic & agriculture. He has shown different types of plastic and theiruses .He further said that plastic can be reused & recycled. The technology is available to do so. Hepresented the review of the various technology for recycling. After the question & answers session Er.Saraf Convener of the program proposed the vote of thanks.

Er Vikas Apte, Co-Convener gaveintroduction of Shri Sanjay Raut. Prof. Araddhana Deshmukh felicitated The Chief Guest. Er MadavGore, President, Indian Institute of Production Engineer Maharashtra Centre, introduced and felicitatedShri Deepak Kelkar.Dr. Deepak Kelkar delivered his talk on significance and importance of power generation by SolarPhotovoltaic route. He discussed the principles of conversion electrical power. His talk was the throughpresentation and it was combination of principles and practices along with commercial implication forpower generation as compared to conventional route. He also elaborated standalone application of use ofsolar power generation by explaining the different applications such as operation of valves in oil pipelineand few more applications. He also highlighted the significance of biaxial tracking mechanism for solarpower generation.Shri Sanjay Raut shared the principles and his views through an illustrious presentation on “Innovation inIndustry”. He explained the steps to implement innovative ideas into practice for the industry Business.He also explained the development of innovative products at Garware wall ropes Limited, Pune by citingthe various examples of new product development in house. He explained the innovation cycle withnumerous examples put in practice by Garware-Wall Ropes Limited.The sizable audience of around eighty members along with number of students attended the program .They put forward their questions which were answered effectively.Er. Deshpande narrated incidents of her father. Dr Bhawalkar in his lecture on “Recent Trends in WindEnergy System” covered various aspects of power generation using wind energy in the country. He pointedout that there is a huge potential waiting to be harnessed. However there are several problems reported inliterature regarding harnessing these renewable sources and associated difficulties. These issues arerequired to be addressed in detail to increase their contribution to grid. He narrated that maturedtechnology, development and availability of machines of higher rating, limited requirement of space,efficient and cost effective generation factors give wind energy an edge over solar energy and otherrenewable energy sources. ProfJoshi while delivering the keynote address, narrated that industries around the world are now facingsubstantial challenges due to recent environmental, societal, economic and technological developmentsregarding disruptive concepts of Internet of Things, Cyber Physical Systems or Cloud basedManufacturing, which lead to the fourth stage of industrial revolution. He talked about various keytechnological components that progressively make up the foundation of Industry 4.0 like Autonomousrobots, big data, augmented reality (AR), additive manufacturing, cloud computing, cyber security, IoT,system integration, and simulation. He also explained three principal approaches in Industrial 4.0 concept,namely horizontal integration, vertical integration and integrated digital engineering. 5th B. G. Walimbe Memorial Lecture

The 5th B. G. Walimbe Memorial Lecture Programme was organized at The Institution of Engineers(I), Pune Local Centre on 17 November 2018. The Theme of the Lecture was "National Perspective Plan forWater Resources with Specific Reference to Interlinking of Rivers". Er. M. K. Srinivas Director GeneralNational Water DevelopmentAgency New Delhi was the Key Note Speaker & Chief Guest of the Function.

The programme was presided over by Dr. G. S. Mundada Chairman, IEI, Pune Local Centre. Er. V. N.Shinde Convener of the programme gave a brief outline of the B. G. Walimbe Memorial Lecture Seriesstarting from the first lecture delivered by the Stockhom Water Prize Awardee Dr. Madhavrao Chitale in2014-15. The dignitaries on the dais then offered floral tributes to late Er. B. G. Walimbe. Er. R. B. Walimbepresented a brief life sketch of late Er. B. G. Walimbe. Thereafter Dr. Mundada Chairman presented hiswelcome address and outlined the activities of Pune Local Centre. Er. Shinde introduced the Chief Guest

and Dr. Mundada felicitated the Guest.Er. M. K. Srinivas in his Key Note address said that out of 4000 BCM of precipitation in India, only

1123 BCM is utilizable. There is a large spatial & temporal variability of the precipitation. He further saidthat the NWDA has identified 30 links (16 under peninsular component and 14 under Himalayancomponent) for transfer of water. He outlined that implementation of National Perspective Plan wouldgive benefits of 25 million ha. of irrigation from surface water, 10 million ha by increased use of groundwater, raising the ultimate irrigation potential from 140 Mha to 175 Mha and generation of 34000 MW ofpower and other incidental benefits. Er. Srinivas then explained the present status of Ken-Betwa linkproject, Damanganga-Pinjal link project as well as Par-Tapi-Narmad link project. He narrated thedifficulties in preparing the Detailed Project Reports (DPRs), environmental management aspects andissue of submergence encountered while planning for dams & reservoirs. He also informed that due to nonfinalization of surplus water in Mahanadi river, the nine links in Peninsular component are being plannedafresh. The lecture was very informative and appreciated by audience.The programme concluded with avote of thanks proposed by Prof (Ms)AaradhanaADeshmukh, Hon. Secretary.

Workshop on Internet of Things (IoT) for Human Being

A half day workshop on “Internet of Things IoT for Human Safety” was organized on 8 March 2019 inth

Pune Local Centre. It was inaugurated by Er. Sumedha Sahastrabuddhe, Director e-Maestro, Pune alongwith Dr. Sonal K. Jagtap, Convener and Prof. Araddhana Deshmukh, Hon Secretary IEI PLC. Expertsfrom e-Maestro delivered their hands on training on IOT to the participants. With a vision of bridging skillgap of engineering students and industry requirements, e-maestro provided guidance related withwomen's role in IoT.In the workshop, participants from different engineering colleges, academician and industry sectorsgainthe knowledge of IoT (Internet of Things). IoT which is the ability for things that contain embeddedtechnologies to sense, communicate, interact, and collaborate with other things, thus creating a network ofphysical objects. In recent years this concept has gained enormous momentum and is now one of the mosttalked about things in the world of technology today. Connecting objects with Internet and get interactingwith each other bring a lot of benefits. This technology can be beneficial to help track status of variousassets, products and people. Workshop concluded with quiz competition. Winners were felicitated in theWorld Women's Day celebration function.

Pune Region, Indian Plumbing Association, (IPA) Pune Chapter, Indian Water Works Association, Pune

Centre, Marathi Vidnyan Parishad, Pune on Tuesday, 26 March 2019. Celebration started with Kalashth

Pujan by all dignitaries. Er. Saraf welcome the guest on behalf of IE (I) Mr. Rahul S Jagtap, Joint Director

CWPRS gave welcome address on behalf of CWPRS, Mr. Manish Rathore, Dy. Director NWA gave

welcome address on behalf of NWA. Er. Saraf Convener of the Program and Vice President of Marathi

Vidnyan Parishad explain theme of year. He said we went ahead that is why someone is left behind. He

explained how man is drifted from natures with examples. He also pointed out the disparities.At one place

no water for farmer and at other place farmer grows sugar cane that demands 1500 mm/ha of water. Ladies

travel 10 km to get the water and 100 km pipe line is laid down to satisfy the thirst of urban dwellers. Mr.

Anil Kulkarni, Hon Secretary IWWA introduced the speakers. Er. Sudarshan Tandale, Er. Apte & Er.

Deshpande felicitated the speakers of the Day. Dr. Pakhmode spoke on Ground water – No one left behind.

He presented the review of quality and quantity assessment of Ground Water in Maharashtra. He said that

due to imbalance between the recharge & draw, major part of Maharashtra is facing scarcity of water. Mr.

Subhash Patil spoke on Safe & Adequate Water for all. He began with formation of MJP & then explained

the major role played by MJP to ensure Safe & adequate water for all. He explained various program like

Amrut etc implemented by MJP. Er Saraf took interview of Ms. Yukta Mookhey, Miss World 1999. She

said in her interview that Women of India are conservative and they have to take lead in water sector. The

beginning shall be made from the individual and at home. One must follow the earth friendly leaving by

using the natural ingredients instead of manmade chemicals. This eliminates the pollution. She appeals all

to join her movement in the field of Water & Environment. Mrs. Pradnya Thakur presented a case study of

saving water by maid servant. Her studies reveal that at each house hold, minimum 6 litre of water can be

saved by the maid servant. Mr. Chakore of IPA presented “I Save Water – Initiatives” by IPA. The device

call aerator if fitted brings down the water consumption by 40%. Miss Roma Shukla a young lady of 12

years old presented her expectation from the audience so that she will not left behind when she will be of 20

years old. She appeals audience to preserve & protect water for her generation. Mr. Amit Saste presented

Case Study of Water Governance at Amanora. He said Amanora has implemented all the ideas to ensure

water for all. Students of Dr. D.Y. Patil Institute of Technology, Pimpri, Pune IE (I) Student Chapter

presented a skit on the theme “Save Water for Better future”. Pledge on water was taken by more than100

persons present in the hall. At the conclusion, Er Saraf thanked all and with an appeal to meet again and

again throughout the year to implement the theme “Leaving no one behind”. Eminent persons like Dr.

Suresh Naik, Shri D. T. Deole, Shri Jayant Gurao, Dr. Neelima Rajurkar, Shri Ranade and others attended

the celebration.
