Anything Goes is set aboard the fictitious ocean liner, the S.S. St Catherine, where night-club singer/evangelist Reno Sweeney is travelling from New York to England. Her friend, Billy Crocker, has stowed away to be near the love of his life, Hope Harcourt, but there is a problem in that Hope is engaged to the wealthy Lord Evelyn Oakleigh.

Also on board the S.S. St Catherine are Public Enemy #13, Moonface Martin and his accomplice, Erma. With the help of some elaborate disguises, tap-dancing sailors and good old-fashioned blackmail, Reno and Martin join forces to help Billy in his quest to win Hope’s heart.

The Story

The ShowAnything Goes is a musical with music and lyrics by Cole Porter. The original book was written by Guy Bolton and P.G. Wodehouse and was rewritten by Howard Lindsay and Russel Crouse. The musical introduced such songs as ‘Anything Goes’, ‘You’re the Top’, and ‘I Get a Kick Out of You’.

A later version was created by Timothy Crouse and John Weidman and this is the version that has been produced for tonight’s performance.
