Magnesium Acetate Method

Final Action

A. Reagent 

 M a g n e s i u m a c e t a t e s o l u t i o n . — D i s s o l v e 4 . 0 5 4 g

Mg(CH3COO)2⋅4H2Oin50mLH2Oanddiluteto1Lwithalcohol.

B. Determination 

From buret add 5 mL of the reagent to 3–5 g flour, bread, etc., or

10 mL to 1 g bran, wheatgerm, etc. Letstand 1–2min,evaporate ex-

cess alcohol, and place in furnace at 700°C, closing door after flam-

ing ceases. When incineration is complete, place dish in desiccator

until cool; then weigh. Determine blank on solution and deduct

blank from weight ash. Evaporate blank cautiously.
