Christian Rodders & Racers Association of Canada is a Canadian charity in which we have a program that we call “CAR GUYS THAT CARE”. We fix up and give away vehicles to those who cannot afford to purchase one. This is done with help from the generous support from the community that have donated funds, time, parts or vehicles. This van was donated to Flo Dominix of Airdrie. For each tree dropped off to us in the Scotia Bank parking lot (next to city hall, 304 Main Street South) we will hand back a special reusable shopping bag filled with some great stuff such as a coupon for a FREE Benjamin's Coffee House Coffee and a FREE bag of Old Dutch chips from Condillo Foods. Just for recycling! Once inside Benjamin's you will find several volunteers accepting food and cash donations for the Food Bank. For each donation our volunteers will present you with one entry form to enter to try and win one of our MANY gift baskets donated by Airdrie merchants. These fantastic gift baskets range in value from $50 up to $300! Back again this year... "BUCK-A-TREE." Several of Airdrie's most community minded companies have pledged to donate $1 each for each tree we recycle during our 2 day event. Last year in it's first year our BUCK-A-TREE program contributed $2,506! Of course, people who have an artificial Christmas trees are important to the success of this event as well. We need them to come down with food or cash donations for the food bank for their chance to win one of our fantastic gift baskets! NEW THIS YEAR: TREECYCLE SILENT AUCTION We have canvassed the support of many fantastic donors and now offer some awesome items in our Silent Auction running on site during our event. We truly have something for everyone donated by some of the best companies and organizations to be found!

Las Vegas Churches Accept Gambling Chips This may come as a surprise to those of you not living in Las Vegas, but there are more Catholic Churches than casinos. Not surprisingly, some worshippers at Sunday services will give casino chips rather than cash when the basket is passed. Since they get chips from many different casinos, the churches have devised a method to collect the offerings. The churches send all their collected chips to a nearby Franciscan Monastery for sorting, and then the chips are taken to the casinos of origin and cashed in. This is done by the chip monks. Alioops was caught doing the two step (or was it the one step?) as Chris LeBlanc, originally from Shediac, New Brunswick but now hanging his hat in Calgary, Alberta, entertained us at the Airdrie Festival of Lights on Dec 29th. Here’s the Scoop was very fortunate to have this evening as a sponsor night as Chris was just nominated for Country Recording of the Year for the 2009 East Coast Music Awards! We will be able to add this picture to our Wall of Fame. It was a really wonderful evening in the park. According to Chris’s website, he’ll be coming back to Airdrie in 2009 to Dick’s Pub, so watch for those dates as they come up.

2009 Alberta Brain Injury

Conference (ABIC) Website (PROVINCE WIDE) – Alberta’s fourth biennial conference for Acquired Brain Injury will be held in Edmonton, Alberta; April 16 - 18, 2009 at the Shaw Conference Centre.
