1THE 12TH ASIAN CONFERENCE ON CLINICAL PHARMACY

Welcome MessageDear friends and colleagues,

It is our great pleasure to invite you to the 12th Asian Conference on Clinical Pharmacy (ACCP) which will be held on 7 – 9 July 2012 at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. This year, the conference is co-organized by the School of Pharmacy, Chinese University of Hong Kong and the Chinese Pharmaceutical Association. We guarantee you that you will find this year’s programme a memorable and meaningful one.

The theme for this year’s conference is “Citius, Altius, Fortius: appraising clinical excellence, nurturing emient practice”. “Citius, Altius, Fortius” are latin words meaning “Faster, Higher, Stronger”. 2012 is the year of the London Olympic Games. Like Olympic athletes, pharmacists need to maintain high competency and commitment in our profession to ensure medication safety. We have to equip ourselves to reach clinical excellence. Throughout the years, ACCP has been dedicated to promote clinical pharmacy practice, education and research in Asia. We shall continue to aim for a higher and stronger clinical pharmacy profession. The organizing committee has been working hard to prepare an exciting programme for you at the ACCP 2012.

We encourage you to attend the conference to exchange information and share your views with fellow colleagues. Over dinner, lunch and coffee breaks you can catch up with those pals only seen once a year. At the same time, the academic exchange is also very important. We would like to invite you to submit abstracts for oral and poster presentations. The recent interesting works of yours could be shared with other colleagues at the conference.

In order to make this conference to be a successful one, we need your support and active participation.

We look forward to seeing you at the conference.

Sincerely,

The management of these two diseases involved both pharmacological and interventional treatments. The latest update on the management of acute coronary syndrome and atrial fibrillation will be discussed in the current workshop. Although the two diseases have different pathophysiology, antiplatelet agents are commonly used in the management of both acute coronary syndrome and atrial fibrillation. Therefore, the latest antiplatelet agents will be introduced in this workshop. The workshop will be further enriched by a clinical pharmacist who will share her experiences regarding the roles of a clinical pharmacist in monitoring these newer agents in the management of acute coronary syndrome and atrial fibrillation.

Hong Kong

With a land area of only 1,090.91 square km, Hong Kong is ranked as one of the largest trade entities in the world. The estimated population is 7 million (almost 98% of whom are Chinese). The official languages are Chinese and English. Cantonese is the most widely spoken Chinese dialect, though Mandarin dialect is also spoken.

In 1997, Hong Kong reverted to China and became a Special Administrative Region (SAR) of the People’s Republic of China. Its existing capitalist system and lifestyle has been guaranteed after 1997.

Airport

The new international airport at Chek Lap Kok commenced service on 6 July 1998. It is situated on Lantau Island, which is an outlying island of Hong Kong, 34 km away from downtown. The Airport Railway operates to link the new airport and Lantau Island with Kowloon and Hong Kong Island. The Airport Express train takes 23 minutes to get to Central, Hong Kong.

Climate and Clothing

Hong Kong has a subtropical climate. Daytime temperatures in July vary between 25°C and 32°C. Evening temperatures vary between 22°C and 25°C. Light clothing is suggested during the day even though a jacket may be required in some air-conditioning places in the evening.

Currency

The Hong Kong Dollar is the unit of currency. The official exchange rate of the Hong Kong Dollar to the US Dollar is 7.78. Most currencies and travellers’ cheques can be changed at banks and hotels. Major credit cards are readily accepted in Hong Kong. There are no restrictions on the type or amount of money that can be brought into or taken out of Hong Kong.

Electricity

The electricity is supplied at alternating current and the voltage is 220 volts/frequency 50Hz. Most hotels provide adapters.

Public Transportation

Public transport is inexpensive, efficient and frequent. The Mass Transit Railway (MTR) allows easy passage throughout the territory. Ferries run regularly between Hong Kong Island, the Kowloon Peninsula and the Outlying Islands. Buses, trams and metered taxis are easily available.
