Warm greetings as we head into the holiday season and toward the end of 2015…how did that happen? It’s been an eventful year with many changes for the Pahrump Arts Council, but what remains the same is our dedication to bringing the arts in all forms to share in our community. Many of you are long- time members who remember that our name is officially the “Pahrump Visual and Performing Arts Council” as we began existence in April, 1993. We transitioned to “Pahrump Arts Council” several years ago to make it easier to remember and to be more inclusive. We are the arts (with an “s!”). e arts include all media – whether as an artist you work in fiber, paint, or gemstones, clay, photography, or found objects – literature, dance, music, and all genres in between. Our focus this year (to June 2016) is “Creating an environment for the arts to flourish in our community” on our Youth Arts program, with the support of a National Endowment for the Arts grant. e aim of the program is to provide a wide range of opportunities in the arts to the youth in our community, with hands-on classes, performances, and fun. But there are many opportunities for adults to participate in the arts as well – join one of our sponsored groups: Pahrump Valley Fiber Artists and Quilters, High Desert Chorale, Pahrump Art Gallery, Desert Squares square dancers, Pahrump Community Band. All of the arts need an audience! Visit the PAC gallery venues around town: Nye County Courthouse, Bank of America, Pahrump Library reader’s nook. We will be offering refreshments, Games, prizes and raffles. There will be exhibit space for any artwork you have created having anything to do with Winter. Photographs will have their own exhibit. Cash prizes will be given in each category. So drop by and see the new exhibit. If you are bringing a painting or a photograph, please bring it to the Gallery by 10:30 am.

Ty Cook is our “Featured Artist” this q u a r t e r . Other artists exh ibi t ing at this time are, Marti Z e i g l e r , L l o y d M a r t i n , C h a r l i s e

Butler, Laurie McCaslin and Princy Simonsen.

Pahrump Art Gallery member, Rodney Webb, has donated a beautiful limited edition print from one of his wonderful Western paintings, to be raffled off. It is on display in the Gallery and the drawing will be held the first weekend in May. You do not have to be present to win. Raffle tickets are $1.00 each or six for $5.00.

Our next “Birds of a Feather” meeting will be on January 9th, from 1:00 pm to 3:00 pm. I will be giving some drawing tips, so bring a sketch pad with you. If you are working on a project and want to show us and tell about it, please do. Or, just bring yourself, have some coffee and get to know the Art Gallery Artists.

We will be installing a new exhibit on January 9th. If you are

thinking of showing and haven’t done it before, please call me (Princy) at 775-537-7958 and I will tell you what you need to do.

Christmas shopping reminder. In addition to paintings, prints and photographs, we offer blank cards with art prints on them, painted rock paperweights, beautiful turned wood gift items and small leaded glass pieces. Please don’t forget the great used book store.

“If a man has two pennies, with one he should buy a fish to have something to eat, and with the other he should buy a flower, to give him a reason for living”. (Confucius)

Merry Christmas, and I hope to see you at The Gallery. Check us out on Facebook, or at

www.pahrumpartgallery.com

I’m happy to announce that in cooperation with the Artistic Divas, Nye Communities Coalition, Pahrump Art Council & RSVP we will be hosting Art for Seniors here on the Coalition campus. Sherrie Rhine of the Divas will be teaching the first class on Dec 9 from 10-12 noon. Sherrie will teach how to turn a gourd into a wonderful ornament. A donation of $10 per class is requested & all materials will be supplied. The donation will help defray some of the costs of presenting

the classes. Other classes will be scheduled as soon as we have enough teachers & students, probably in early January. All classes will be held at the Nye Communities Coalition activities center room at the corner of Wilson Road and West Street on Wednesdays, 10-12 noon.

If you would like to teach or attend a class prior registration is required. If you know someone who may be interested, a client of RSVP for instance, they will be very welcome to attend. Please help us get the word out to all.

So dust off the brushes, needles, canvasses etc., & sign on as a teacher or attend Sherries class. She’s a great teacher! More classes will be added after the first of the year. To register your interest in taking an art class or to teach a class contact us:

thanks to the efforts of past PAC treasurer, Jan Lindsay, now Retired and Senior Volunteer Program coordinator: art classes for seniors. This will be a collaboration between RSVP, Nye Communities Coalition, PAC, and Artistic Divas. Look for details elsewhere in this issue.

Volunteer your time to help with specific projects, publicity, office assistance, teach a class, set up/clean up for special events. Check out the PAC website, www.pvpac.org and our “Pahrump Arts Council” Facebook page.

Anthony Jaynes and Doris Smith have been working diligently to get the website updated and running smoothly, after a year or more of benign neglect as we searched for a new webmaster. Special thanks to the website’s original designer, Candy Dowler, who provided the solution to a vexing problem, where we were not able to access our own website from the PAC office! Thanks also to Rodney Camacho for signing on as ArtBeat editor and RoseMarie Johnson for getting the membership records sorted out.

Send us your ideas and suggestions: [email protected] or call the office, Monday-Tuesday 10 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. or leave a message anytime: 775-751-6776. Hoping to hear from you soon – Loretta Lindell
