Discussion of Proposed Amendments to TCCTA Constitution and BylawsAdjournment

The keynote address for this year’s general session will be given by TCCTA attorney Frank Hill, who will address the topic, “Academic Freedom in a Dangerous World.”

Mr. Hill has been a featured speaker for many years at the annual TCCTA Fall Conference for Faculty Leaders, address-ing educators on the rights and responsibilities of community college faculty. His appearance is invariably a highlight of the meeting.

Mr. Hill holds the Bache lor of Arts de gree in English, with honors, from the Uni versity of Texas at Arlington. He re ceived his law degree, also with honors, from Southern Methodist University. Found ed in 1972, the fi rm of which he is the senior partner now includes 30 prac tic ing attorneys, several of whom are recog niz ed as spe cial ists in legal matters involv ing the rights of teachers. Over the years, members facing diffi cult profes-sional issues have come to know Mr. Hill as a trusted advisor. He and his fi rm have established a unique standard for handling sensitive legal matters with discretion, integrity, and fortitude.

“Lessons that Last:The Teachers Students Remember”

The TCCTA Professional Development Committee, in cooperation with STARLINK, has arranged for an inspiring presentation devoted to teachers at all levels. The event will be broadcast live to campuses across the U.S. and Canada, at 1:00 p.m., Friday, February 20.

Speaking will be noted author and journalist David M. Shribman. His topic will be “Lessons that Last: The Teachers Students Remember.”

David M. Shribman is executive editor of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. He was awarded the Pulitzer Prize in journal-ism in 1995 for his coverage of Washington and the Ameri-can political scene. His column, “National Perspective,” is syndicated to more than 50 newspapers nationally through Universal Press Service, and he is a contributing editor of Fortune magazine.

Mr. Shribman served for ten years as the Washington bu-reau chief of the Boston Globe, and also as national political correspondent for the Wall Street Journal. Prior to these positions, he covered Congress and national politics for the New York Times and was a member of the national staff of the Washington Star.

Mr. Shribman is a regular panelist on the PBS television show “Washington Week in Review,” a frequent analyst for BBC radio, and has appeared on the CBS program “Face the Nation.”

I Remember My Teacher, published in 2002, is Mr. Shribman’s collection of reminiscences about America’s greatest teachers. The book includes recollections of people from all walks of life—from Secretary of Defense Donald H. Rumsfeld to a West Virginia coal miner, from fl ight attendants to gover-nors and senators.

The book was also featured recently on National Public Radio and favorably reviewed in several national publications.
