Come celebrate the birth of our Savior with family and friends!

Each Advent Season Snyder collects an offering that goes to different mission causes. We used to collect these offer-ings throughout the year, but combined them all together beginning in 2006. The Christmas Mission Offering begins Sunday, November 27, and concludes at the Christmas Eve Service. This year we have set the goal at $40,000. The offering will be divided between the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship Global Mission Offering, the Southern Baptist Convention Lottie Moon Offering for Foreign Missions, the Annie Armstrong Offering for Home Missions, the Baptist Children’s Home offering and the Baptist Retire-ment Home offering. A couple of years ago we added the Fayetteville Family Life Center. This year we are adding The Friendship House that is being built in the Haymont Community. Friendship House Fayetteville works alongside young adults with intellectual and developmental disabili-ties and their families to provide intentional, transitional living. At its core, this faith-based community is rooted in table fellowship expressed through a daily rhythm of eating, praying and celebrating together. The Christmas Mission Offering is a perfect way to give a Christmas gift for Jesus. Much of the offering goes to help share about Christ all over the world. You may give at anytime during December by using your special offering envelope or by writing on your check Christmas Mission Offering.

We will also be taking a special offering at the end of each performance that will go to The Friendship House being built here in Fayette-ville. Thank you!

Snyder’s Gift Catalog is Updated!

Looking for a unique gift this Christmas, Snyder’s Gift Catalog is your answer. The gift catalog contains many gift ideas that will ben-efit our 3 international partnerships. There are also some local giving ideas as well. You may purchase the gifts with

cash, check or even online giving, but you must accompany your payment with a gift card, so we know where to send the money. The gift catalog will help us continue to invest in the relation-ships of our partnership wtih Haiti, Kenya and Myanmar. Pastor’s Perspective I’ve never been especially good at buying gifts for others. I don’t like to shop.

At all. And I seldom know what to get for people. Most folks I would buy for already have everything they need. Though it’s always nice to be able to give something special to someone that will bring joy into their life, I tend to gravitate to more practical gifts. Something someone needs. A gift that will make a real difference in someone’s life. Like sponsoring a child in one of the countries our church partners with in missions.

That’s one thing I really like about Operation Christmas Child. We have packed shoeboxes as a family for years. Our married children all do now as well. Shoeboxes are still coming in to the church as I write these words. Not sure we’ll reach our goal, but every box will make a difference in a child’s life. This is the week Samaritan’s Purse will collect 12 million boxes for children in over 100 countries. While most of these children have little to nothing, OCC is about much more than the gifts they will receive in their shoebox. It could literally be the gift of a lifetime as their shoebox will include an explanation of the true meaning of Christmas in their native language. They will know WHY a stranger from another country took the time to pack and send a shoebox of gifts to them. They will know God loves them.

This past Saturday I spoke to a member of our community who just returned from a 3-week mission trip to Puerto Rico helping families recover from the devastating effects of a hurricane. He spent most of his time putting tarps over the roofs of houses that had been damaged. One home they worked on had a family still living in it even though it had no roof. This family was familiar with the Samaritan’s Purse logo because they had packed shoeboxes for OCC in the past. When the little girl from that family looked up at the underside of the tarp placed over her home and saw the Samaritan’s Purse logo on it, she pointed it out to her parents and exclaimed with joy that God had sent the tarp to her family to bless them.

Soon after Billy Graham’s wife died, he told his son, “Everything I have came from God and I want to give it back to Him while I’m living.” In the last 10 years, he has given almost all he has to the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association to further the Gospel. The time is short. The need is great. Eternity is at stake. Not all gifts are equal. In value or impact.

See you Sunday! ~ John
