“I Hope You Know”

Paul and Silas came to the region of Lystra and Derbe

and it was there they met a young Christian named Timothy, who would join their mission effort and later

would become incredibly influential for the sake of the mission of Jesus Christ (Acts 16:1-5). This young man

would be to Paul a son in the faith, and their connection would be among the highest of Paul’s earthly

connections (Philippians 2:20). All these things and more would be accomplished, because there was a

connection made through the sharing of Jesus Christ.

Paul and the rest of his companions were desperate to share the message of Jesus with the rest of the world, in

order to help establish believing communities. For whatever reason there was a delay in being able to go to

certain areas, until the opportunity for them was given

to go to Macedonia (Acts 16:6-15). From there, the journey would continue to Philippi, where they would

meet a woman by the name of Lydia, a powerful woman of influence, and she would gladly obey the gospel. With

her influence, she would echo the deeds of Paul and the others, sharing the gospel and spreading this good news,

all because of the community found in sharing Jesus.

As with any occasion of preaching and teaching the life of Jesus to the world in need of Jesus, there was an

occasion for conflict, those that did not want the gospel to interfere with their personal lives (Acts 16:16-25).

Sound familiar? A group who had extorted and exploited the life of a young girl that Paul would eventually heal,

made a significant moment of trouble for Paul and Silas

and the teaching of the gospel. Paul and Silas would eventually be dragged before the magistrates, stripped

naked, beaten, thrown into the prison within the prison and essentially left for dead. Why? Because while the

teaching of Jesus calls out the best in people, some would rather stay in conflict of heart rather than convert

their heart.

At midnight they could be heard singing and praying

throughout the prison. Such serves as a key reminder that no matter the circumstances around

us, they do not have to control the response within us. You see, the power of sharing the gospel can

speak even through the greatest of conflict.

When Paul and Silas were in the prison within in the prison, they along with the other inmates, were

startled by an earthquake at midnight, which flung

open the doors to each prison cell. This sudden event prompted the jail keeper, who by custom was

in charge of keeping all prisoners secured, to respond just as abruptly. Believing the prisoners

had all fled, he drew his sword to end his life, but was interrupted by a voice crying out through the

darkness, “Do yourself no harm, for we are all here” (Acts 16:28). The gospel, above all things,

remembers the value of every single soul, and

speaks to the need of the fulfillment that each soul knows not only does it need to be redeemed, but it

is wanting to be redeemed by the Savior. I hope you know, sharing the gospel, whether it be to

make connection, build community, reconcile conflict, or show concern, is the preferred message

and moment to share with all.

THE GOSPEL IS FOR ALL Bibles to Uganda Fund

Recent contributions given for the Bible Fund provided 25 English Bibles to members at the Mbuya church of Christ in Kampala, Uganda. The goal had been to provide Bibles to 13 teens. We were also able to purchase Bibles for one preacher who needed a large print Bible, five ladies, and six more young people. The distribution of the Bibles was delayed due to the 5 weeks it took for them to arrive, and the February presidential election in Uganda. There was so much violence over the election process with killings from ‘stone throwing’ in the streets of Kampala, that many had to leave the city and go to the villages for safety. Emmanuel Mwizerwa, the preacher with whom we work together to be able to accomplish this mission work, has expressed how the recipients were full of joy upon receiving the gift of their own Bible. The following are a few of the comments from some of the recipients: “Thanks to Centerville church of Christ for providing me with a Bible.” “I have been interested in learning more about God, but there was no way I could access the Bible (word of God in detail), now I know the Bible will make me grow spiritually.” “I will use your book the Holy Bible for guidance, blessings and to make sure that I read it every day, and to so handle it with care and love.” “I would like to forward my appreciation to all my fellow brethren of Centerville church of Christ for the Bible gift. I hope to make use for studying the scriptures and knowing more of the ways of God.” “It is my prayer this Bible helps me search for the TRUTH and may that TRUTH find room in my soul and my life preparing me for eternal salvation. May God Bless all the effort which made this Bible reach me.” Psalm 119:16, 105 “I will delight myself in Your statutes; I will not forget Your Word. Your Word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” I Cor. 3:6-9 “I have planted, Apollos watered, but God gave the increase….For we are laborers together with God.” Gal. 6:9 “And let us not be weary in well doing; for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.”

Contributions can be made to the Centerville Church of Christ specified for

the Bibles to Uganda Fund. TO GOD BE THE GLORY forever and ever. Amen. Gal.1:5

A BIG BREAKFAST FOR A BIG CROWD… We

had close to 30 at our Monthly Prayer Breakfast. Thanks to Mike & Ridonna

Goodpasture for fixing a huge breakfast for us to enjoy! I am also thankful for the thoughts

of those we need to pray for and the beautiful

prayers from the heart. THE JUNIOR HIGH FIRESIDE was

fantastic! 25 Junior Highers enjoyed a delicious dinner prepared by Chris, Cyndi, &

Bryce Hughes. We enjoyed a devo from Acts 16 and from Job 2 as we discussed how to be

good friends as well as what it means to

believe. We ended with some fun games with Griffin Elkins.

ALWAYS A HIGHLIGHT OF THE MONTH… That is our times of deeper Bible

Study at the Dotson’s & Newsom’s. My thanks

to Matthew, Cissy, Derek & Rachel for all their help and leadership in theses studies. One

Bible Study is left in this school year, plan now to be there!

BACK TO THE 50s… Our 2016 theme for the Golden Age Banquet. We begin eating

at 6:30 in the Fellowship Hall with a catered

meal from Fish Camp. Next is some door prizes and some great entertainment from the

youth group with surprises thrown in here and there. We look so forward to this event every

year to show our appreciation to our Golden

Agers. If you have not signed up or need a ride, just let us know in the church office by

Friday. Senior & Junior High, please plan to be here to help set up and practice beginning

at 1.

CLASS OF 2016.. I need your information sheets and a picture back to me

by next Wednesday the 20th! This is to help me with preparation for Senior Sunday, May 1.

SOME TIPS FOR BEING GOOD FRIENDS

taken from Job’s friends in Job Chapter 2... Take Time, Job’s friends came from a great

distance to be there for him. Be Humble, His friends there to encourage and support in that

time of need. Listen, Job’s friends wept and

hurt for Job and listened to Job’s rants in Chapter 3. It was in Chapter 4 where they messed up and began to give their

thoughts and opinion. Often times that is when we make our greatest mistakes is when we quit listening and start talking.

Listen today to the word of God and the message God intended. Listen to the need to… follow His path, -Craig

Moments with Matthew As a new quarter begins, may we be mindful to share our “First Love” with those around us. One of the greatest callings we will ever have is to share the Gospel of Christ. May we seek opportunities in our daily walk to “Declare his glory among the nations” (Psalm 96:3) and “Make disciples” of everyone that we can (Matthew 28:19). I, for one, CANNOT WAIT for Camp Meribah 2016! It is (already!) that time of year again and applications have been mailed out. Clay and Tara do a phenomenal job each and every summer providing the young

people of this church and community with an unforgettable Christian experience. Whether you are a life-long attendee or thinking about going for the first time, we hope to see you on the hill in a few weeks for what is sure to be another amazing summer! One year ago tomorrow (April 14th) my father left this earth after a 9-month battle with pancreatic cancer. Over the past year I can say—with no shame—that I have cried more tears than I have in the rest of my adult life combined. Some of these have been tears of sorrow, but for the most part they have been tears of joy. I am joyful when thinking about the faithful life that my father led and the times I got to share with him. I am joyful when I picture him getting to play with his grandson and the constant smile it brought to his face. I am joyful when I remember him telling me, “I'm ready.” I am joyful when I think of how peacefully he passed into eternity. And I am so very joyful when I think of the kindness showed to him by his friends and this church family during his final days. All of

you mean more to our family than you could possibly know. My father loved the Lord, this community and the Centerville Church of Christ—how wonderful it has been to see that love returned to him by so many. God is good in each and every way, and it is my prayer that we may all see Dad and the rest of our loved ones in Heaven one day.

Mary Hill Horner 1915-2016

We express our sympathy to the family of Mary Hill Horner who passed away at the

age of 100. Mrs. Horner was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Ted Horner. She was a member of the Centerville Church of Christ for many years. To her children and grandchildren all family and friends we express our deepest sympathy. A Bridal Shower !
