What is CIGRE?

• Founded in Paris, France in 1921.

• To put it succinctly – “CIGRE is the forum for

electrical innovations”

• In more detail, CIGRE as an organisation aims to:

– Provide a platform for engineers and specialists to

exchange information internationally, and enhance

knowledge on power systems

– Add value by synthesising state-of-the-art practices

– To make this information available to users and decision-

makers

What is CIGRE?

• What does CIGRE’s electrical innovation look like?

– Establishment of specialist groups (study committees,

working groups)

Automation, etc.).

• Australia has 16 Technical Committees to mirror these Study Committees

– Development of technical documents (brochures, papers,

articles, contributions to standards and guidelines)

• CIGRE’s Next Generation Network

• Aimed at developing the next generation of power

engineering professionals and leaders

8
