PROFILE OF SERILINGAMPALLY CIRCLE – I AND II
Serilingampally is a municipal town in Andhra Pradesh. The municipality specifically
belongs to the district of Ranga Reddy, which encircles the state’s capital city of
Hyderabad. Due to this, Serilingampally is closely connected to the capital city and is, in
fact, a part of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), the urban
planning agency that oversees the development of Hyderabad. The absorption of the
municipality to the agency happened in 2007. This makes Serilingampally one of the
more progressive municipalities in the area, especially since the GHMC sometimes
implements its plans and developments on test towns before putting it on the main capital
itself. Serilingampally is now part of the west zone of the GHMC.
Serilingampally is also mandal in Ranga Reddy district in Andhra Pradesh. During 2007,
the Serilingampally municipality merged with GHMC and split the old municipality as
two circles and four wards for administrative purpose. It has been witnessing
unprecedented boom in the past few years. Due to its close proximity to Hi-tech City (the
software hub of Hyderabad), there has been a heavy influx of IT professionals here. The
reputed Hyderabad Central University (HCU) is also located here.
As of 2001 India Census, Serilingampally had a population of 1,50,525 and area is 96.99
sq. km. Males constitute 50 percent of the population and females 50 percent.
Serilingampally has an average literacy rate of 42 percent, lower than the national
average of 59.5 percent: male literacy is 42 percent, and female literacy is 41 percent. In
264
Serilingampally, 11 percent of the population is under 6 years of age. The
Serilingampally circle - 1 has two wards, Gachibowli and Serilingampally, and it has
39,304 and 37,522 voters, respectively. Similarly, the Serilingampally circle - 2 has two
wards Chandanagar and Hafeezpet has 39,561 and 36,977 voters respectively.
The 74th Amendment to the Indian Constitution and the II Administrative Reforms
Commission (2005) have endorsed establishment of Ward Committees (WC) an Area
Sabhas (AS) in municipal areas to involve the pubic in the ULB governance. Each ward
has one Ward Committee. Totally, the Serilingampally Circle I & II have 4 wards. Each
ward is divided into 7 or 8 areas to organize the AS.
Ward number 111 - Gachibowli divided into 8 areas
Ward number 112 - Serilingampally divided into 8 areas
Ward number 113 - Hafeezpet divided into 7 areas
Ward number 114 - Chanda Nagar divided into 8 areas
As of 2007 MEPMA SHG survey, there are 4,456 SHGs working in these circles and
38,057 women have membership in the SHGs. The average members for each SHG are
8.5. The majority members belong to BC castes (57 percent). The remaining members
belong to SCs (16 percent), STs (3 percent) and OCs (24 percent).
The Serilingampally two circles have the 4 wards and 59 slums as given below
