INTRODUCTION OF APPLE CARPLAY. This Product News contains information on the introduction of Apple CarPlay Preparation for smartphone integration which is optionally available via the ConnectedDrive Store for selected models produced from July or August 2016

AVAILABILITY AND PRICING. Via the BMW ConnectedDrive Store for the following vehicle specifications: For BMW’s produced from July production (week 27) for F20/F21 1 Series, F22/F23 2 Series, F87 M2, F30/F31/F34 3 Series, F32/F33/F36 4 Series, F80 M3, F82/F83 M4, F06/F12/F13 6 Series, G11/G12 7 Series For BMW’s produced from August (week 31) for F25 X3, F26 X4F15 X5, F16 X6, F85 X5 M and F86 X6 M. Vehicles must be fitted with BMW Professional Media system (609) with the latest iDrive software (ID5) and one of the following options Enhanced Bluetooth with wireless charging (6NW) or Rear Seat Entertainment (6FR). Apple CarPlay Preparation will be available for £230 via the BMW ConnectedDrive Store (www.bmw-connecteddrive.co.uk) for registered BMW ConnectedDrive account holders. IMPORTANT NOTE REGARDING DATA. Please inform customers that using services within Apple CarPlay in the car will use the data plan on the mobile device and is dependent on the mobile signal.

APPLE CARPLAY OVERVIEW.

• Apple CarPlay Preparation enables the wireless use of your iPhone including selected third party apps in your BMW. Unlike the integration for most other manufacturers the connection in the BMW is wireless ensuring maximum convenience for the user.

• Smartphone content such as iMessages, SMS, Telephony, Entertainment, Apple Maps and other selected third party apps can be displayed and operated on the iDrive.

• Operation is completed via the normal iDrive control methods such as the iDrive controller, touch or voice input (methods available vary based on vehicle specification).

FAQ’S. Q: What technology does the connection to Apple CarPlay use? A: Wi-Fi and Bluetooth. For the Wi-Fi connection, a specific Wi-Fi antenna is needed that is built into the cars with option 6NW. Q: Which data connection does Apple CarPlay use? A: Apple CarPlay uses the data connection of the end-customer’s mobile phone. Therefore additional charges from the data provider may apply. Q: Which 3rd Party Apps are supported by Apple CarPlay? Is Facebook / WhatsApp supported? A: You can find a list of supported 3rdParty Apps here: https://www.apple.com/ios/carplay/. WhatsApp and Facebook are currently not supported. Q: Is it possible to use Apple CarPlay via Wi-Fi/ BT and charge your smartphone via Snap-In Adapter or USB Cable at the same time? A: Yes, you can charge the smartphone during an active CarPlay session. Q: Once you have paired Apple CarPlay with your car, is there an auto-reconnect when you enter your car? A: Auto reconnect is possible as long as BT / Wi-Fi are enabled on your iPhone. Q: Is it possible to use Apple CarPlay entertainment functions in the background? A: Yes. However, parallel use of BMW certified apps (Glmypse, M Laptimer, BMW Connected etc.) is not possible. Q: Does Apple CarPlay use the GPS signal from the phone or the car? A: The GPS signal from the car is used. Q: Will the Apple CarPlay Preparation offer in the BMW ConnectedDrive Store be visible to customers without the pre-required factory fitted hardware? A: No only customers with the required hardware can see the offer. Preconditions are shown above. Q: Will Apple CarPlay work via USB connection? A: No, only via Wi-Fi & BT connection. Q: Why is 6NW a necessary precondition for a BMW ConnectedDrive Store purchase of Apple CarPlay Preparation? A: This is required because of the Wi-Fi antenna which is needed for Apple CarPlay. Q: Does the customer need to go to a BMW Centre after buying Apple CarPlay Preparation via the BMW ConnectedDrive store? A: Apple CarPlay Preparation will be directly activated after the customer buys it in the BMW ConnectedDrive Store. Q: Is there an offer for 3rd party apps with map material such as WAZE or Google Maps? A: Currently the only map app is Apple Maps.
