Paris FRANCE Conference name: REPRESENTATION THEORY, HOMOLOGICAL ALGEBRA AND CLUSTER ALGEBRAS Duration: 2016-03-07 - 2016-03-18 Amount of support requested: 3500 euros Description: This CIMPA School is part of a series of meetings organized by a group of mathematicians trying to connect the souh-american groups working in representation theory and related topics i Bahia Blanca, Mar del Plata, Buenos Aires in Argentina, Montevideo in Uruguay, Curitiba, Sao Paulo, Goiania, Victoria in Brazil and Medellin in Colombia. We are expecting for this CIMPA School students and young researchers coming for the Latino-American region, from Argentina: Mar del Plata, Bahia Blanca, Buenos Aires, From Uruguay: Montevideo, from Brazil: Curitiba, Goiania, Vitoria from Colombia: Medellin, From Mexico, Mexico DF and Guanajuato. 12. Estimated number of participants: From own country 30 From the region 20 From outside the region 15 Outline of the scientific programme: Courses during the first week (given in English) Advanced homological algebra, by Mariano Suárez-Alvarez (Universidad de Buenos Aires, Argentina) This course aims at introducing the students to the basic notions of homological algebra, approached first from an elementary viewpoint using derived functors and then using the notion of triangulated category and derived category. We start with a review of functors and categories including several examples and emphasizingthe definitions of kernel and cokernel, product and coproduct, as well as the notions of right and left exact functors. Then we will talk about additive categories, the category of complexes of an additive category and the corresponding homotopy category. This will give rise to the notion of derived category. Introduction to the representation theory of algebras, by Maria Ines Platzeck (Universidad Nacional del Sur, Argentina) Introduction to the representation theory of algebras, by Maria Ines Platzeck (Universidad Nacional del Sur, Argentina) The objective of the course is to introduce basic notions and results of the representation theory of algebras, with particular emphasis in the functorial techniques introduced by Maurice Auslander. approach has played a fundamental role in the representation theory of finite dimensional algebras and, more generally, of artin algebras. Auslander-Reiten theory for algebras of infinite representation type, by Piotr Malicki (Nicolaus Copernicus University, Poland) In the first lecture we shall present some important facts from homological algebra. In the second lecture we introduce some fundamental concepts such as irreducible morphisms and almost split sequences. The third lecture will include the following concepts: the Auslander-Reiten translation, the Auslander-Reiten formula and the Auslander-Reiten quiver which is an important combinatorial and homological invariant of the module category of finitely generated modules of an algebra. In the last lecture we shall present old and new results on the number of terms in the middle of an almost split sequence in the module category of a finite dimensional algebra. The intention of these lectures is to serve as a source of motivation and information on the main concepts, techniques and results on the Auslander-Reiten theory. Cluster algebras arising from surfaces, by Ralf Schiffler (University of Connecticut, USA) Cluster algebras are commutative algebras with a special combinatorial structure. A cluster algebra is a subalgebra of a field of rational functions in several variables, which is defined by constructing a specific set of generators in a recursive way. This course will focus on an important class of cluster algebras, those that are associated to surfaces with boundary and marked points. The generators of these cluster algebra are in bijection with certain curves in the surface and the combinatorial structure of the cluster algebra can be explained in terms of triangulations of the surface. In the simplest example, a regular polygon with n vertices, the generators of the cluster algebra correspond to the diagonals of the polygon. The first class will be on general cluster algebras, and the following three classes on cluster algebras from surfaces. I plan to cover the following list of topics. Cluster algebras, definition and results, cluster algebras from surfaces, definition, examples, relation to representation theory, combinatorial expansion formulas, canonical bases, and if time permits upper cluster algebra, skein relations, snake graph calculus. Speakers during the first week Edson Ribeiro Alvares (Universidade Federal do Paraná, Brazil) Ana Garcia Elsener (Universidad Nacional de Mar del Plata, Argentina) Sonia Fernandez (Universidade Federal de Viçosa, Brazil) Elsa Fernandez (Universidad de la Patagonia, Argentina) Marcelo Lanzilotta (Universidad de la República, Montevideo, Uruguay) Patrick Le Meur (Université Paris Diderot - Paris 7, France) Eduardo N. Marcos (Universidade de São Paulo, Brazil) Octavio Mendoza (UNAM, Mexico city, Mexico)

Andrea Solotar (Universidad de Buenos Aires, Argentina) Pablo Zadunaisky (Universidad de Buenos Aires, Argentina) Heily Wagner (Universidade Federal do Paraná, Brazil) Courses during the second week (given in English unless otherwise specified) Algebras inclinadas de conglomerados (in Spanish), by Ibrahim Assem (Université de Sherbrooke, Québec, Canada) Definición y propiedades elementales. Cluster characters, by Pierre-Guy Plamondon (Université Paris-Sud, France) This course's aim is to present cluster characters for 2-Calabi-Yau triangulated categories and their main properties. The original motivation for the study of these notions resides in their application to Fomin-Zelevinsky's cluster algebras; however, we will focus on the theory itself. First, we shall define triangulated 2-Calabi-Yau categories; our main examples will be orbit categories of derived categories of Dynkin quivers. Then, we will define cluster characters, which are kinds of generating series for "counting" submodules of a given modules according to their dimension. Finally, we will see how these cluster characters interact, giving rise to various multiplication formulas. Introduction to K-theory, by Guillermo Cortiñas (Universidad de Buenos Aires, Argentina) The course will be introductory and treat of the following topics. I.The K-theory of exact categories. I.1. Quillen's Q-construction. I.2. Quillen's fundamental theorems: Localization, Dévissage, Additivity and Resolution. I.3. Negative K-theory. II. Algebraic K-theory and triangulated categories. II.1 The bounded derived category of an exact category. II.2 Exact sequences of triangulated categories and the Thomason-Waldhausen localization theorem. II.3 Quillen's fundamental theorems revisited. Brauer graph algebras and applications to cluster algebras, by Sibylle Schroll (University of Leicester, United Kingdom) Brauer graph algebras are symmetric algebras of tame representation type. They first appeared, as Brauer tree algebras, in the modular representation theory of finite groups. Since then they have been studied in their own right and much of their representation theory is well understood. It has recently been shown that the class of Brauer graph algebras coincides with the class of symmetric special biserial

Page 5: Application data Last name: Trepode First name: Sonia Mail ... · Paris FRANCE Conference name: REPRESENTATION THEORY, HOMOLOGICAL ALGEBRA AND CLUSTER ALGEBRAS Duration: 2016- 03-07

algebras, which is another class of tame algebras, that has been well-studied. These two presentations, as Brauer graph algebras and as symmetric special biserial algebras, provide two different approaches to the subject. In this course we will define Brauer graph algebras as well as symmetric special biserial algebras and give an overview of their representation theory based on the two approaches. In particular, we will show how Brauer graph algebras have recently been connected to Jacobian algebras associated to triangulations of surfaces. Speakers during the second week Claudia Chaio (Universidad Nacional de Mar del Plata, Argentina) Claude Cibils (Université Montpellier 2, France) Flavio Coelho (Universidade de Saõ Paulo, Brazil) Shiping Liu (Université de Sherbrooke, Québec, Canada) José Antonio de la Peña (UNAM, Guanajuato, Mexico) Maria Julia Redondo (Universidad Nacional del Sur, Argentina) Idun Reiten (University of Trondheim, Norway) TBC Andrzej Skowroński (University of Toruń, Poland) TBC Hugh Thomas (Univesity of New Brunswick, Canada) Gordana Todorov (Northeastern Univestity, Boston, MA, USA) Yadira Valdivieso Diaz (Universidad Nacional de Mar del Plata, Argentina) Except for the introductory courses to K-theory and homological algebra which can be attended to by any PhD or master student with a basic background on homological algebra, all the courses are intended for PhD students and young researchers who already have had previous contact with homological algebra, Auslander-Reiten theory and cluster algebras. Hence this is particularly well-suited for the young people working in subjects related to representation theory and clusters algebras in Argentina, Uruguay or Brazil. Regarding the research talks, their level is that of a usual research talk in a scientific meeting.. The courses will serve to the young audience as a preparation to these research talk. Also the invited speakers for research talks are aware of the specificity of the audience and are expected to prepare their talks accordingly. During the last 10 years a group of mathematician, some of them members of the Scientific Comitte of this CIMPA School, have been organizing in different points of South-America a series of meetings related to representation theory of algebras. They have already organized three CIMPA School in the region and several south-american meetings. Conference on Ring Theory (dedicated to the 60th birthday of Professor Eduardo Marcos), Victoria, Brazil, December 2014. Letter of request: As one of the main organizers of the CIMPA School “Representation Theory, Homological Algebra and Cluster Algebras” I am requesting your financial support for the organization of this school. The event “Representation Theory, Homological Algebra and Cluster Algebras” is a CIMPA school hosted by Universidad Nacional de Mar del Plata Argentina and that will take place in 2016 from March 7th to March 18th. It aims at introducing the audience to advanced research topics of mathematics related to the representation theory of finite dimensional algebras and, more specifically, to Auslander-Reiten theory, cluster algebras, homological algebra, and K-theory. The event is mainly intended for PhD students and young researchers of the universities in Bahia Blanca, Buenos Aires, Mar del Plata and in countries surrounding Argentina (like Uruguay, Brazil and Colombia) and doing their research work on problems close to the above mentioned topics. It is also addressed to younger students who have had previous contact with one or several of these topics, who will have the possibility to attend to the lectures. This CIMPA school is scheduled during two weeks. Each week features 4 courses (each course consists of 4 lectures of 50 minutes) and 11 research talks of 50 minutes. Each course is given by a confirmed researcher with international level on the taught material. The lecturers for the research talks have been chosen among the renowned and most active specialists on the topics related to the contents of the courses. This CIMPA school is rooted in the previous conferences organized at Universidad Nacional de Mar del Plata, namely the CIMPA school "Homological Methods and Representations of NonCommutative Algebras" held in 2006 and the "South-American Meeting on Representations of Algebras and Related Topics" held in 2010. These events have had strong impact in the region. Among the important fallouts is the emergence at Universidad de Mar del Plata and surrounding universities of a PhD program and a research group on representation theory of algebras with emphasis on homological algebra, Auslander-Reiten theory and cluster algebras. This group is now acting intensively in particular throughout collaborations with researchers in Uruguay, Brazil and Québec (Canada). The details on this research group are available at http://www.representacionesdealgebras.edicypages.com/en The purposes of the CIMPA school "Homological Methods, Representation Theory and Cluster Algebras" are therefore the following First, to bring the attending students and young researchers some of the most advanced techniques on the representation theory of algebras. Next, to consolidate the new PhD program in Mar del Plata and stimulate younger students from Argentina and neighbouring countries to undertake research studies in this area. Its realisation will give the students and young researchers the possibility to interact with prominent international specialists. Finally, to bring the already existing synergy between the algebra research groups in the region (Argentina, Uruguay, Brazil, Colombia) to excellency by enhancing new collaborations between their researchers. In particular, the discussion that will follow from the courses and research talks are expected to raise important and relevant problems on the representation theory of algebras Organizing committees 1. The main research lines developped in the Department are Algebra, Analysis and Statistics, that is, representation theory of artin algebras , wavelets, fractal geometry, regression models and linear models in statistics. The represention theory group, see (http://www.representacionesdealgebras.edicypages.com/en) consists of 13 people working in the area, namely five professors, two young researchers, two postdoctoral fellows and four PhD students, The four PhD Theses that are in progress at the moment are on topics such as Auslander-Reiten theory, tau tilting theory and cluster algebras. The PhD program in Mathematics at Universidad Nacional de Mar del Plata started in 2010 as a consequence of a process initiated in 2006 with the realisation of the CIMPA School: Homological Methods and Representations of Non Commutative Algebras. This school has been very productive for the region and has motivated young students to continue PhD Studies, process which ended with the creation of the PhD program at the local university. In March 2010 the South American Meeting on Representation of Algebras and Related Topics has taken place in Mar del Plata, this motivated even more the young students. Web page of Department of Mathematics of UNMDP http://www.mdp.edu.ar/exactas/index.php/departamentos-e-institutos/departamentos/matematica The Department of Mathematics of Universidad Nacional del Sur has a long experience in the formation of PhD students in Mathematics and in particular in the subject of the proposed school. There have been a strong collaboration between the two Departments during the last years. In particular, some of the present professors at Department of Mathematics of Universidad Nacional de Mar del Plata have made their postgraduate studies at Universidad Nacional del Sur. We expect that at least five student come from Bahia Blanca.
