Since the moment of Lord Buddha's Enlighten-ment under the Bodhi-Tree till the establishment of

stMagadh University, on 1 March, 1962, Magadh region of Bihar has envisaged academic explorations in the forms of "Paraa" and "Aparaa" Vidya. Various Gurukuls, Bauddha Vihars, Shramanas, Pathshalas, Nalanda and Udantpuri Universities, Maqtabs and English Medium Institutions echo the divinely lit-academic throbs of Magadh down the ages. It was

the then president of India and great Philosopher, Scholar of Modern age who laid the foundation of this University in August, 1964 as a homage to Lord Buddha and Buddhism. The renowned historian Dr. K. K. Dutta was the founder Vice-Chancellor of this University who had dreamt of disseminating the message of Buddhism by launching new branches of South Asian Studies in the Department of History. The Departments of Philosophy, Pali, Ancient Indian and Asian Studies as well as Buddhist Studies cater to the need of the vision and consequently this University captivates the attention of the students and scholars of Buddhist Countries. The enrolment of Buddhist monks and foreign scholars in the University provides it an International stature.

The Headquarters of MU is housed in an area of 450 acres of land (at 131 mtrs. Altitude; between Latitude 24°41'N & Longitude 85°58'E) and its jurisdiction covers the district of Patna, Gaya, Nalanda, Nawada, Jehanabad, Aurangabad and Arwal in Bihar) between Latitude 24°30'N and 25°31'NLongitude 83°58'E & 86°5'E). At present there are 44 Constituent Colleges, 4 Minorities Colleges more than 100

The Directorate of Distance Education has been established with the permission of the State Govt. of Bihar & Raj Bhawan. The Regulations of various courses have been prepared and finalized by the statutory bodies of University and approved by the Inter University Board (Bihar) and assented to His Excellency the Governor and Chancellor of the Universities of Bihar.

The Directorate of Distance Education offers courses in higher learning through distance mode of education to such students of the country in general, and the State of Bihar in particular, who have been denied admission in conventional institutions or who are unable to study there as day boarders, but are still desirous to upgrade their educational attainments. The courses offered by the DDE, Magadh University are innovative, Job oriented and self satisfying and designed for independent learners who receive study materials and supports from the Directorate and from the Study Centres. Students require commitment and motivation to ensure that the quality of educational performance could be maintained at higher level.

Library & Reading RoomLibrary is the store house of knowledge. It is the Window to look the whole world. Directorate of Distance Education, Magadh University has a thick air conditioned Library having 8,000 Books, 25 National and International Educational Journals, 4 e-journals, 6 Magazines & 6 Hindi and English news papers regularly subscribed it is digitalized partially. It is under the process of membership in INFLIBNET and open access system. Every year it is growing to reach its optimum level. Visitors from inter Departments and outside also come to visit it. Well experienced and qualified librarian and assistant serve on all working days.

This library is connected with ultra-model peaceful reading room having seating capacity of 50 students. Our students teachers, staff members and teachers are very often go there for reading purpose.

The classrooms of the Directorate are well specious, ventilated & air conditioned. There is system for Power-Point presentation, chalk board & display board in classroom. The necessary furniture like bench, desk, made up of iron and podium, fans & light etc. are available in each classroom.

ET/ICT RoomInformation and Communication Technology (ICT) is an umbrella term that includes all technologies for the manipulation and communication of information. It deals mainly with the uses of tools and techniques to enhance the effectiveness of the teaching-learning process. Educational Technologies (ET) deals mainly with broad theoretical and classroom oriented issues, including processes, while ICT in education largely deals with practical aspect of Educational Technology.

The Directorate comprises an air-conditioned quite spacious ICT Lab. to facilitate teaching learning process. There are T.V., Projector, OHP, LCD Projector, Camera, Radio, CD-ROM Computer with internet facilities and other modern electronic gadgets available in our ICT Room. There is language software in language laboratory which is imparted by skilled instructors.

Conference & Seminar hall lie on the first floor of the Directorate conference hall which are centrally air-conditioned with a seating capacity of 125 persons and are equipped with the latest gadgets at par with International standards.

Psychology Resource CentreThe teachers are expected not only to understand children and how learning occurs but should also be aware of

their inclinations, expectations, perceptions, dispositions, potentialities, acumen etc. Teachers with such technical know-how and confidence will not only be able to apply the theoretical knowledge to real life situations but will also be able to use the knowledge of their field and real life experience to construct.

In the view of above opinion our Psychology Resource Centre has well equipped psychological test apparatus such as mirror drawing test, intelligence test, memory test and some paper on personality, teacher effectiveness test to provide training for student-teachers that how to psychologically identify the individuals.

Art and Craft Resource centerOur Directorate has well equipped Arts and Craft Resource Centre for providing opportunities and training to

student teachers for acquiring and enhancing necessary skill in different areas of arts and craft as a prospective teacher and also as an individual.

Science & Mathematics Education Resource CenterScience and mathematics are essential components of general education of an individual. Science and mathematics are not mere disciplines of study but also a way of life. The process of scientific thinking based on scientific reasoning, mathematical logic, scientific method of problem solving and mathematical accuracy and above all the values they inculcate, cut across various disciplines and are applicable in every walk of life.

Science and mathematics education at school level has to focus not only on development of understanding and skills related to these subjects but also on the development of scientific temperament among the learners.

On the basis of aims and objectives of science and mathematics our department has well equipped Science Laboratory having Physical, Chemical, Biological and Mathematical apparatus.

AccommodationThere are eight huge hostels in the University Campus having accommodation facilities to cater 1,500 students.

Two Girls Hostels are also available to accommodate 250 girl students in the University campus. The application for a seat in the hostel should be submitted immediately after admission

materials as per the NCTE guidelines.

INSTRUCTION FOR FILL UP THE APPLICATION FORM

Prospectus can be obtained from Magadh University DDE headquarter or the Study Centre upto 6th June, 2014. The Study Centres have also been permitted to sell Prospectus of the B.Ed. Programme under Distance Mode to the eligible applicants on payment of the prescribed price including entrance test fee of Rs. 1000/- (Rupees One thousand only) for General /Other Category and Rs. 500/- (Rupees five hundred only) for SC/ST candidates in the shape of Bank Draft issued from any Nationalised Bank in favour of “Director, Directorate of Distance Education, M.U., BodhGaya” Payable at Bodh-Gaya or through cash money receipt, to be given at the sale counter.

The Application Form duly supported with the self attested photo copies of the required documents must reach :

Two more copies of the same photographs must be pasted on the specified space of the Admit Card format & three same photographs must be pasted on the specified space on teaching experience form. Two more photographs must be attached with the application form (with name, application form No. and course applied for on the back).

The application form is required to be filled up by the candidates in CAPITAL LETTERS (Except signature and address) using either ink or ball pen in HIS/HER OWN HAND WRITING. Where information is required to be filled in boxes, write names in capital letter, leave one box blank between first and middle name and also between middle name and last name or initiate of names. Your name, Father's name, Mother's Name and Date of Birth in the application form should exactly be the same as mentioned in the High School/Class X certificate. Any discrepancy, wherever found, may lead to cancellation of your candidature.

For two academic years, one academic session 500 students will be admitted in B. Ed. programme (Distance Mode) based on the performance in the Entrance Test and observing the norms of Reservation for admission as per State Government/ Magadh University Rules.

i) Graduation/ Post-Graduation Degree with fifty percent (50%) marks. (Relaxation of 5% marks for SC/ST/OBC categories only.) Provided that the requirement of fifty per cent marks will not be applicable to persons appointed as teachers prior to the commencement of the NCTE (Regulations Norms and Procedure) Second Amendment Regulations, 26 July, 2010.

ii) To be admitted to the courses for the Degree of Bachelor of Education (B.Ed.) through distance mode a candidate should have Bachelor's Degree or any other qualifications recognized by the Academic Council of the Magadh University as equivalent thereto. After proper appointment, through competent authority on prescribed pay scale serving/working in Government or Government recognized school as a teacher having at least two years teaching experience on the day of filling the application form, are eligible for admission to the course.

iv) No applicant will be admitted, who has not applied for the admission within notified time or who, on being selected for admission, does not get himself admitted within specified time, except where the delay has been condoned by the Vice-Chancellor.

(i) Seats shall be reserved for SC [16%], ST [01%], BC-I (18%), BC-II [12%] & BC Women [03%]. Admission against these seats will be made provided the candidates has passed the Qualifying Examination and appeared in the test and secured the qualifying marks in Entrance Examination. Candidates other than Bihar state shall be treated under general category and they will not be allowed any reservation benefit or relaxation of 5% marks in eligibility criteria.

(ii) Appearance in the Entrance test is mandatory. The reserved category candidates shall have to submit a copy of the certificate mentioning that the candidates belong to particular reserved category from an officer not below the rank of SDO/SDM.

(iii) 3% of seats shall be reserved for physically challenged candidates: Visually Impaired (1%), Hearing Impaired (1%) & Orthopedically Handicapped (1%). These 3% of seats are within the intake limit; Percentage of disability will be taken into consideration at the time of selection.

There is a provision of reservation of 10 seats within the intake limit for the ward of Magadh University employees working in Headquarter only as per provision of general admission ordinance of Magadh University, Bodh-Gaya dated 22.04.08 (A proof issued from competent authority must accompany the application form regarding ward proof).

ENTRANCE TEST

DESCRIPTION OF ENTRANCE

a) No Candidate will be permitted to appear in the Test without a valid Admit Card. The admit card should be presented to the invigilators/other authorised officials for verification. The candidate's identity will be verified in respect of his/her details on the Admit Card. If the identity is in doubt, the candidates may not be allowed to appear in the Test. The authorities may at their discretion provisionally permit the candidate to appear in the Test after completing formalities including taking of thumb impression/several signatures for further verification. No extra time will be granted for these formalities to be completed.

b) Selected candidate will be informed of their selection through registered post selection letter. Selection list will also be available at Study Centres, DDE office and our website

c) Each Candidate will be required to appear in the Entrance test at the Centre to which he/she has been allotted.d) No telephonic enquiry will be entertained in this regard.e) No change will be made in the test centre allotted to the candidate under any circumstances.f) Candidates failing to appear in the entrance test will not be considered for admission.g) The University reserves the right to amend the schedule, rules, course structure and fee structure as and when it

seems necessary.

There will be objective type of test for admission in B.Ed. Programme. The test will comprises of 100 questions carrying one mark each. The objective type questions are of multiple choices with four alternative answers (numbered 1, 2, 3, 4) to each question. Candidates are required to choose the correct one. For the test, each candidate will be supplied a sealed question booklet (which contains the question) and OMR answer sheet. The candidate will have to choose the correct answer and shade against the appropriate choice in the OMR response sheet provided, strictly adhering to the instructions.

No negative marks for wrong answers.

The question paper will be in English & Hindi only.

Candidates should carefully go through and strictly adhere to all the instructions given in the OMR Response sheet before they begin.

The candidates should bring their own black ball point pen of good quality. This will not be supplied by the University.

Candidates should shade the correct response against each question in the OMR response sheet only with a black ball point pen.

The candidates should sign in the attendance sheet at appropriate places.

The Admit card should be preserved and produced for verification at the time of counselling/admission.

Part- A : Consists of 80 questions carrying one mark each. SELECTION CRITERIA FOR ADMISSION

Admission is based strictly on merit index prepared on the basis of marks obtained in the entrance test following the reservation policy of the admission. The merit list of provisionally selected candidates will also be available on the website and notice board of DDE. Provisionally selection list will also be sent to the individual candidate through registered post on his / her address as mentioned in application form. No scrutiny/re-evaluation of answer-sheet/Booklet of the test shall be allowed on any ground as OMR sheets are evaluated through computerised Data processing. No representation or any query regarding result, conduct of the test shall be entertained as everything will be available on our website.

a) A list of finally selected candidates will be prepared in order of merit, based on their performance in the Entrance Test.

b) The reservation policy of the State Govt./M.U. shall be followed.c) University will hold the Entrance Test for selection of candidates. The admission shall be made strictly on the basis

of entrance test conducted by University.d) No candidate can claim for admission as a matter of right.e) Selected candidates will be informed for their admission through New Papers/selection letter. Selection list will

also be available at Study Centres, on the office notice board and website f) Selected candidates are called for counseling session before the admission.g) Study centres at Sl. (1) to (7) mentioned below are only authorized to sell the prospectus. Counselling Classes will

only be held at the study centres at Sl. 8 to 16 as below.h) On the day of counselling, the candidate will have to produce all the original documents as mentioned above along

with prescribed fee for the course in the form of DD. The demand draft be issued from any Nationalised Bank in favour of "Director, Directorate of Distance Education, Magadh University, Bodh-Gaya" payable at Bodh-Gaya. Cash payment will not be accepted except in exceptional case.

i) At the time of admission, the selected candidates will have to produce the selection letter and all the original documents with prescribed fees for the course in one installment in the form of demand draft only.

j) After admission, each candidate will be allotted an Enrolment No. He must quote his Enrollment No. and course name for all future correspondence with the department. Any letter, which does not bear the Enrolment number, will not be entertained.

No case of original documents be sent along with the application form. Only attested copies of the documents should be enclosed. However, at the time of admission the documents as listed below Heading "Application Form" will be required in original, along with their attested photo copies for verification. Original documents will be returned to the candidate immediately after verification.

The candidate selected for admission must pay the prescribed fees in full at the time of admission itself and fill undertaking as required by the Directorate.

There is no provisions of exemptions from course fee for any category of candidates as it is self -finance course.

On the reverse side of the Demand Draft, the candidate must write his/her name, Entrance Roll and the name of the course applied for.

Candidates are advised to retain photocopy of the Demand Draft for their personal use.

In no case refund of fees will be allowed for any reason what so ever.

Students are expected to attend the classes and other activities regularly. A student must have completed 75% attendance, in the counselling classes held by the university at the respective study centres, otherwise he/she will not be permitted to appear in the B.Ed. final examination. Under unavoidable circumstances prior permission for leave is essential. Leave applications should be addressed to the Director, DDE, Magadh University, BodhGaya only. The application must be recommended by the concerned teacher of the Department.

All students admitted to B.Ed. course of the University will get Identity Card on prescribed fee of Rs. 50/- (Rupees fifty only) which shall remain valid till completion of the course.

1. In case of any dispute, the decision of the Vice-Chancellor or statutory bodies of Magadh University shall be final & binding on all parties.

2. For any matter the legal jurisdiction shall lie in Gaya Court and / or Patna High Court only.

The programme is essentially a combination of theory and practical courses to develop knowledge, skills and

attitude in practicing teachers. Illustrations and cases of relevant situations and activities comprise the core of each paper.

The core subject is suitably supported by theoretical aspects to the extent needed. Thus, the programme consists of eight

FEE STRUCTUREA candidate is required to pay the entire course fees in one installment at the time of admission through DD. The course will run on self-finance basis, hence, fees may be revised by the University, if necessary.

Besides the above mentioned fees and charges, the cost of course materials supplied to the students Rs. 6050/-(Rupees Six thousand fifty only) would be born by the candidate at the time of admission. Each student has to procure Carry bag, Kits, Assignment Books, Lesson Plan, Syllabus from the Counter at approximate cost Rs. 2,000/- (Rupees two thousand only) on outsourced mode from outside agency and Rs. 1,000/- (Rupees one thousand only) towards 'Student's Welfare Fund' Charge. Each candidate appearing at the University examination will be required to pay the prescribed examination fees & other charges of University.

(a) The duration of the course shall be of two academic years.

(b) The final examination leading to the award of the degree will be held at the end of the academic session on the date notified by the University.

Practice teaching is an integral part of B.Ed. Programme. All students have to:

?demonstration of at least 5 lessons in presence of colleagues and subject expert in real situation.

?during practice teaching all teacher-students are expected to be in the school for the entire duration of the school hours.

Co-Curricular activities are regular feature of B.Ed. Programme. Many different Co-Curricular activities are organized at regular intervals of time i.e. Preparation of T.L.M., organization of cultural programme, organization of science exhibition and improvisation of apparatus etc.

A student who is not already registered with Magadh University will have to get himself registered on payment of the requisite fees. The students who are not registered under Magadh University shall not be allowed to appear at the examination. However, candidates of other University, need to be registered with M.U. do not need to produce Migration Certificate.

AWARD OF DEGREE

To be admitted to the examination for the Degree of Bachelor of Education under distance mode, a candidate must have:

a) Completed the courses of study prescribed for the B.Ed. Programme under distance mode.

b) Registered under Magadh University as a student.

c) Completed 75% attendance of the classes held, otherwise he/she will not be permitted to appear at the B.Ed. examination.

d) The medium of examination for the course shall be English, Hindi & Urdu.

e) The mode of instruction shall comprise printed lessons, holding contact classes, evaluating response-sheets and using other audio-visual aids available.

f) Courses of study for Bachelor of Education Examination (distance mode) shall be the same as prescribed by the Academic Council of Magadh University.

g) Candidates who, have completed the course, failed to appear at the examination or failed to pass the examination shall be allowed to take subsequent examinations on payment of prescribed examination fees without being required to complete the course again. However, this opportunity shall be given only in two more examinations, within a period not exceeding three years. Excluding the main examination held at the end of the session.

(i) The examination shall be conducted by Magadh University which shall also finalize the programme for the examination and necessary fee for its conduction.

(ii) Candidates obtaining 60 per cent of the total marks in aggregate or more shall be placed in First Class.

(iii) Candidates obtaining 45 per cent or more but less than 60 per cent of the total marks in aggregate shall be placed in the Second Class.

All students are required to go for practical training to different reaching institutes for practical exposure.

Those who complete the programme successfully shall be awarded appropriate degree by Magadh University, Bodh-Gaya in a prescribed format specifying the Class/Division in which he/she was placed.
