To whomever it may concern,

After recently seeing the advertisement in the Stage newspaper I am writing in relation to the vacancy of Makeup Artist at the upcoming event of Priestley College’s annual Dance Show. I am a conscientious hardworking individual who has worked in high pressure environments since the age of 14 as I upheld a part-time job whilst attending full time education and also attending dance classes. My personal skills include organisation, time-keeping, communication and task management; I believe these skills help me to perform the role of makeup artist to the highest standard. I have a good understanding of creating characters, complementing and highlighting facial features. Through my experience in performance production through performing arts I understand stage makeup and how under the stage lights makeup can be affected. I also have experience in creativity through my A-level in Performing Arts, Dance and reative writing within English Language, subjects I achieved two A*’s a A and a B. My experience of having a job since a young age means that I have an extremely professional attitude and understand the importance of a successful client relationship.

In relation to experience I have completed makeup design and application for my own choreography and with the help of 2 other artists’ completed the makeup for 18 performers in the time given. We used black makeup to highlight the eyes on the performers to create the character of an intimidating pack. Through the importance of communication we had successful continuity and due to time management we had all performs ready on time. My time keeping and punctuality skills are also evidenced through my ability to hand all academic work in on time and to a high standard. Another skill I believe extremely important to a makeup artist is the knowledge and ability to use a range of materials and techniques, through production research I have an in-depth knowledge of most current makeup techniques’. I have a good understanding of accuracy and speed within applying makeup, the importance of fine details, understanding skin types and blending and matching base layers. In relation to more complex techniques such the use of liquid latex, when I was an actor at the scare attraction ‘Spooky World’ we were required to apply our own makeup. Part of this included the use of prosthetics and liquid latex application that I gained a basic and fundamental knowledge in. I also have a basic knowledge and ability to apply hairstyling techniques on performers.

I have a good understanding and ability to take on board requirements from Choreographers and Directors and work from sketches and visual plans; I enjoy making peoples aesthetic visions a reality. I am willing to take on the responsibility of the visual accuracy and professionalism of performers, in my current job at IKEA I am often left alone on departments and left to deal with high pressure situations such as finance applications and complaints and believe this experience means I will be able to perform in the high pressure situations well. I hope I receive your consideration for this role as my experience and skills mean I am well suited for the role. Thank You,
