MountingTheCSC-3000Seriesarepositionsensitive.They must be mounted and calibrated in either the horizontal or vertical plane.

1. Asneartotheflowsensorpickupasisfeasible,connectthemountingbrackettothemountingsurfacewithtwoself-threadingscrewsinthetwo3/16"(5mm)mountingholes.Besuretoleaveenoughroomtomakeconnections.

2. Insertthecontroller,facedown,up,rightorleft.Thecontrollermustbeinstalledandadjustedinthesameplaneorreadjustmentwillbenecessary.

NOTE: Thesecontrollersareusedonsingleanddualductapplications.Whenworkingondualductapplications,itmaybenecessarytoworkononeductatatime.

NOTE: Anysequencingwithothercontrollers,valves,orpneumatic-electricrelaysmustbedonewiththecontroller’sresetrange,NOTtheactuator’sspringrange.

General InformationCSC-3000 Series OverviewTheseCSC-3000seriesresetvolumecontrollersaredesignedforuseonheatingorcoolingsystemswith(normallyopenornormallyclosed)VAVterminalunitsand(directorreverseacting)thermostats.

Theyaresub-masterairvelocitycontrollers.Eachisequippedwithseparateadjustmentknobsformini-mumandmaximumairflowsetpoints.Modelsareavailablewithvariousresetstartpoints.Amastercontroller,typicallyaroomthermostat,resetstheCSC-3000betweentheminimumandmaximumvelocitysetpoints.

TheuniversaldesignoftheCSC-3000seriesisin-tendedforneworreplacementapplicationsthatcallfordirectorreverseactingresetonnormallyopenornormallyclosedVAVterminalunits.

ConnectionsForallmodelsoftheCSC-3000series,use1/4"(5mm)O.D.“FR”tubingonthefollowingpush-onfittings:

1. Connecttheclean,dry,oil-freemainairsupplytoPort“M”(15to30psi).

2. ConnectthedamperactuatortoPort“B.”3. ConnectthethermostatoutputtoPort“T.”4. Connectthehigh(“total”)pressuretapontheairflowsensortoPort“H.”

5. Connectthelow(“static”)pressuretapontheairflowsensortoPort“L.”

6. Checkforproperconnections.Make sure all tubes are snug on their fittings.Ifloose,trimtheendofthetubingandreconnectittoensuretherearenoleaks.

NOTE: Overtime,thetubemaystretchordevelopmicrocracks.Trimtheendoftubebacktoundamagedmaterialandreconnect.Replacethetubingifitisbrittleordiscolored.

CAUTIONPneumatic devices must be supplied with clean, dry control air. Any other medium (e.g., oil or moisture contamination) will cause the device to fail.

NOTE: Youcaneasilytestforleakswithasqueezebulbtoensuretherearenoleaksattheactuatordiaphragmorfittings.

7. Useaflowhoodor“tee”aMagnehelic®(orequivalent)differentialpressuregaugebetweenthecontrollerandthe∆Ppick-uptodetermineairflowrates.

Damper Action

Thedamperactionisfactory-setatNormallyOpen(N.O.).TochangetoNormallyClosed(N.C.),per-formthefollowingsteps:

1. Loosenthedamperselectionscrew.2. Turntheselectiondialclockwiseuntilthe“NC”arrowalignswiththe“DAMPER”arrow.

NOTE: Accuracy in the alignment of the arrows is very important. Make this adjustment as exact as possible.

3. Tightentheselectionscrew.Be sure the screw is tight(2to4in-lbs.oftorque),but if overtightened, the plastic will strip out.

DIRECT Reset Minimum and Maximum

Determining the Type of Reset

ThefollowingtableshowswhenDirectResetorReverseResetisrequired.DeterminetheresettypebasedonthetemperatureoftheprimaryairenteringtheVAVboxandwhetherthethermostatinthespaceisdirectorreverseacting.

Adjusting Minimums and Maximums

Whenadjustingtheminimumandmaximumairflowsettings,theoutputrespondsslowlytochangesinthesetpoint.Waitfortheflowratetostabilizeaftermakinganadjustment(usually20to30seconds)be-foremakingfurtheradjustments.Also,ifthedamperpositionisallthewayclosedoropenwhenstartingthisstep,turntheadjustmentonefullturn,andthenwait20to30secondsforachangeintheflowread-ingoftheMagnehelicgauge.Ifnochangeoccursafterthistime,repeatuntiltheflowratechanges.

NOTE: Thedirectresetillustrationaboveassumesnorelaysareconnectedbetweenthethermostatand“T”port.

ForDirectReset(DAthermostatforcoolingorRAthermostatforheating),performthefollowingsteps:1a.OntheCSC-3000,disconnectthe“T”portandleaveitopen.Temporarilyplugthetubing(butdoNOTplugtheport).

1b.Alternately,insteadofremovingthetubingfromtheTport,(temporarily)removetheplugfromtheCSC-3000’s“G”port.

2. AdjusttheLOSTAT∆P(centerdial)oneadjustmentatatimeuntilthedesiredMinimum airflowisreadattheMagnehelicgaugeandisstable.

NOTE: Adjustthedialnomorethanaboutahalfrotationatatime.Aftermakinganyadjustment,waitapproximatelytensecondswhilewatchingformotioninthedampershaft.Ifnomotionoccurs,makethenextadjustment.

NOTE: IF the LO STAT ∆P Limit must be set at “0” (zero minimum),donotturntheLOSTAT∆Pknobfullyclockwise.Theknobwilladjustoneandone-halfturnsafterazerominimumisreached.TurningtheLOSTAT∆Pknobfullyclockwisewillresultinanegativeresetcondition.Thismeansthatwhenthecontrollerbeginstoresetattheresetstartpoint,itmustfirstovercomethenegativeadjustmentandwillnotbegintoresetfrom“0”untilahigherthermostatresetpressureisreached.Thisnegativeresetwillalsoreducetheeffectiverangeofthecontrollerbyreducingthelowendreset,narrowingtheresetspan.Ifazerominimumisrequired,adjusttheLOSTAT∆Pknobuntilthecontrollerjustbeginstocrackthedamperopen,andthenback-offone-quarterturnandverifyzeroairflow.(Thisistypically2-1/2knobrotationscounterclockwisefromthefullyclockwiseposition.)

REVERSE Reset Minimum and Maximum

ForReverseReset(RAthermostatforcoolingorDAthermostatforheating),performthefollowingsteps:

1a.OntheCSC-3000,disconnectthe“T”portandleaveitopen.Temporarilyplugthetubing(butdoNOTplugtheport).

1b.Alternately,insteadofremovingthetubingfromtheTport,(temporarily)removetheplugfromtheCSC-3000’s“G”port.

2. AdjusttheLOSTAT∆P(centerdial)oneadjustmentatatimeuntilthedesiredMaximum airflowisreadattheMagnehelicgaugeandisstable.

NOTE: Formoreaccuracy,temporarilyrelievethepressurebeforeeachdialadjustment.TemporarilypullofftheplugfromtheGport(relievingthethermostatairpressure),maketheestimatedamountofdialadjustment,reinstalltheplug,andwaitforthedamperpositiontostabilizebeforecheckingtheflow.

6. RepeatSteps1through5toverifythesettingstobecorrectandfinetuneifnecessary.

NOTE: In almost all applications, the reset span never needs adjusting. Do not change the default 5 psi unless really necessary.

NOTE: Resetspanisthepressurechangeat“T”abovetheresetstartpointthatcausestheflowsetpointtomovefromoneextremetotheother.Inadirectresetapplication,theflowsetpointwillchangefromminimumtomaximumflowabovethestartpoint.Inareverseresetapplication,theresetwillchangefrommaximumtominimumflowabovethestartpoint.

TheCSC-3000seriesarefactorysetwitharesetspanof5psi.Thisisstandardinmostapplicationsanddoesnottypicallyrequireadjustment.Leavingthisadjustmentatthefactorysettingisrecommended.Ifnecessary,theresetspancanbeadjusted(between0and10psi).Iftheresetspanischanged,theminimumandmaximumflowsmayneedtobereadjusted.Toadjusttheresetspantoanothervalue,performthefollowingsteps:

1. Adjustthethermostattoahigherpressure,beyondworkingrange(20psiisbest).

2. Attachapressuregaugetothe“G”port(requires5/32"O.D.tubing).

3. Withasmallflat-bladescrewdriver,adjust(coun-terclockwisetoincrease;clockwisetodecrease)theresetspancontrol(atthebottomofthecon-troller)untilpressureatthe“G”portequalsthedesiredresetspanpressure.

TheresetstartpointisthepressurefromthethermostatatwhichthecontrollerbeginstoresetfromtheLOSTATtotheHISTATsetting.ModelsoftheCSC-3000seriescomewithresetstartpointsfactory-setat3,8,or10psi.(Seethechartonthenextpage.)Thesearestandardinmostapplicationsandtypicallydonotrequireadjustment.Ifaresetstartpointisneededotherthanthedefaultsetting,allmodelsarefieldadjustablebetween0and10psi.(Iftheresetstartpointischanged,theresetspanmayneedtobeadjustedaswell.)Toadjusttheresetstartpoint,carryoutthefollowingsteps:

1. Putthethermostatpressureatthedesiredstartpointpressure(e.g.,3psi).

2. Removerubberplugatthe“G”portandreadpressureat“G”witha0–30psigauge(requires5/32"O.D.tubing).

3. Withasmallflat-bladescrewdriver,adjust(counterclockwisetoincrease;clockwisetodecrease)theresetstartpointcontrol(atthetopofthecontroller)untilthepressurereadat“G”portisjustbeginningtomoveoffzero(0)psi.

TroubleshootingNOTE: The controller should be set according

to the specifications found on the manufacturer’s label on the VAV box.

NOTE: The CSC-3000 series are position sensitive. Be sure to mount the controller with the correct orientation. See Mounting on page 2. If the controller is calibrated in a position other than the final mounting position, the calibration (minimum and maximum flow limits) will be off.

NOTE: Thesecontrollersaretypicallyusedonsingle-ductapplicationsbutmaybefoundindual-ductapplications.(See,forexample,Dual Duct on page 13andDual Duct, Constant Volume on page 14.)Whenworkingondual-ductapplicationsitmaybenecessarytoworkononeductatatime.

• Isthereanadequatemainair(M)supply?

• Isthereadequateupstreamsystem(duct)air?

• Isthedamperaction(NC/NO)setcorrectly?Dothedamper’sandcontroller’sactionmatch?SeeDamper Action on page 4.

• Isthedamperbinding?Willtheactuatordrivethedamperfullopentofullclose?(Sufficientmainairisrequiredtoprovidetheactuatorwithenoughforcetooperatethedamper/linkage.)Istheactuatorleaking?(Evensmallleakscancausetheactuatortonotstroke.Youcantestforleakswithasqueezebulbtoensuretherearenoleaksattheactuatordiaphragmorfittings.)

• Doesthethermostatsendanadequatesignaltothecontroller?

• AreLOSTATandHISTATsetcorrectlyforthethermostataction?Whencycled,canthecontrol-lerrepeattheLOSTATandHISTATsettings?IftheLOSTATorHISTATmustbesetfor“0”wc,seethenotesaboutzero minimuminDIRECT Reset Minimum and Maximum on page 4orRE-VERSE Reset Minimum and Maximum on page 5.
