Punctuality: Approach to Grade 1
I. Objective/ Rationale
To teach the values of punctuality to grade one students
To discuss punctuality as one of the most important values that should be
taught to young individuals.
To differentiate acceptable reasons for being late in class from
unacceptable ones.
II. Content

The teacher will ask the students something about the teaser. (e.g. what do
they think of it? How does it relate to the day’s lesson?)

What are the possible reasons does the ten o’clock scholar has/have for
being late?
3. The teacher (or the teacher may ask the classmates to identify) should be able
to identify what are acceptable reasons from not.
4. Ask some latecomers, if there is any, why they were late in the class for that
day.
5. Ask the students to tell story about themselves wherein they can show that
punctuality is a good character that must be possessed.
IV. Follow- up
A. For INC members only, tell them to be early in their worship service during
Sunday and ask them the next week if what time they come on their respective
services.
B. Talk to their parents that they should always advice their child to be early or to be
on time in their class.
C. Reward students (e.g. treat, compliment, etc…) who are consistently making it on
class on time. The adviser should know the reason/s why a student is late or
always late on the class. Advise them as well as their parents.
V. Analysis
This proposal will be effective in three main reasons:
The students will be aware of the unacceptable reasons why they are late on class.
Knowing it will eliminate their dependence to just throw excuses.
The act of giving rewards to those who participate is a great a strategy for us to be
sure that all of the students will not only enjoy but also learn for a life time.
It is also helpful if the parents will be included since they will be the one who will
be the instrument to make their children punctual in all aspects.

Punctuality: Approach to Grade 2
I. Objective/ Rationale
This proposal aims to influence some educators to adapt the way of teaching punctu-
ality to various students for them to fully appreciate this values which can help them
to be a good individual of this society someday.
II. Content
The approach that the proponent suggests is a game entitled “BRING ME”. The mechan-
ics of the game is as follows:
The teacher will announce a certain thing which can be found inside the
classroom.
The students will search for the thing as fast as they can.
The student who first brings the thing to the teacher will win, and will get a
reward.

2. Ask them to make a simple role playing about punctuality. While having the
group activity, the teacher may go around and make some important ideas

Recitation: The teacher will ask students the question, “How is it important to be
punctual?”
IV. Follow- up
A. Include the award “Most Punctual” in class recognition.
B. Tell them to do things as early as they can so that they will not run out of time.
C. Talk to their parents that they should always advice their child to be early in their
everyday life not only in school but especially in everything they will do.
V. Analysis
This proposal will be effective in two main reasons:
1. This will allow the students to internalize the value of punctuality.
2. Encourage them to practice and exercise punctuality.

Punctuality: Approach to Grade 3
I. Objective/ Rationale
To make students realize the importance of punctuality in their studies and in their
future.
To encourage students to prevent anything unpunctual and to learn how to work
on it.
II. Content
Black and White
Pedro Pablo Sacristán
A long, long time ago, when everything was just starting out, and even the planets and stars were
so young that they were still going to school, there was a special class which was everyone's
favourite, having by far the most fun classmates. The class members were a bunch of rather mis-
chievous colours; from black and white, through to red and blue, yellow, and all the rest. They
hoped to grow up to be wonderful colours, and this is what they were training for. As well as
funny and joyful, the colours were very naughty; particularly black and white, who were so pre-
occupied with causing mayhem that they were almost always late for class.
One morning there was a great commotion in the sky. The clouds were up there, practicing their
raining, but they had been raining for so long that they'd gone and created a storm so terrible that
absolutely everyone had become saddened and depressed at having so little light. When the sun
started shining again, not even that managed to cheer up the world.
The only solution was to appeal, as a last resort, to the naughty, mischievous colours, even
though they were still very young and weren't yet trained for anything like this.
The authorities went straight to their classroom. It was still early, and, as ever, black and white
hadn't yet turned up.

However, there was no time to lose; they couldn't wait for black and white. The other colours
had to do something fast. They ran down the corridors, out of the door, and flew up into the sky,
where the clouds - ashamed for what had happened - were waiting.
On their way up to the clouds each one of the colours left a resplendent trail.
Travelling side by side, the combination of all the colours' trails was so striking and spectacular
that smiles returned to everyone's face, and the world filled with the sound of applause.
The colours felt honoured and delighted to be named as the sun's official assistants. And the in -
habitants of the world begged them to promise that, from that day on, the colours would always
be on hand, to help cheer everyone up. It was agreed that whenever the clouds overdid it on the
rain, the colours would come quickly and make a rainbow.
A bit later, black and white entered the classroom, finding it empty. Everyone was congratulating
the other colours so much for their wonderful performance that black and white - really the most
fun and happy of all the colours - didn't dare to ask to be part of the rainbow, and from that time
onward they forced themselves to be punctual and responsible.
Indeed, they managed this so well that now they don't mind being left out of the rainbow. They
are now the most serious and important of all the colours, and no one can get anything done
without them.

1. What is the moral lesson of the story?
2. What will you do if you are on the shoes of the main character? Would you do the

IV. Follow- up
A. Ask your students and child if they are doing the things that you taught.
B. Always check the attendance on time
C. Ask what are the reasons why your students is being late at school and check if their
reasons is valid or not, if not talk to them and give them some advice to work on their
lateness.
V. Analysis
This would be a great help for the students to become early at school and most espe-
cially for the students that are intelligent but having a low grade because of their atti -
tude in being late. It will teach them that being early is important because you will not
miss any of your lessons in the morning and this will be a good attitude when you are
already working.

Punctuality: Approach to Grade 4
I. Objective/ Rationale
To teach grade 4 students how to be aware of time
To respect one’s time by learning to be punctual always.
To mold students to become a reliable person who values time.
II. Content
This paper uses poems about punctuality to be presented to the students. Poems are short with
good moral lesson, thus the proponent chose this form of literature for the students to easily get
the main point of the lesson.

In a way try to be early
Punctuality is a sterling quality
Practice it regularly daily
It will have an unbelievable utility
You will be admired particularly
Reach a place well in advance
Teach the World at every chance

MORAL LESSON:
Being punctual gives one an edge on the other, it will depart you from rushing things, that can
make one a reliable person.

2. The teacher should first introduce the topic to the students by citing his her ex-
periences of being late once in his her life.

After reading the poem, the teacher may group the students into 5 groups (for exam-
ple), then he will let each group to site the benefits and advantages of being punctual
indicated in the poem, they can also provide some examples they believe an attribute
of being punctual. Each group will come on front and state their insights about punc-
tuality.
IV. Follow- up
Of course, one cannot assure that the lesson they taught in class will be absorb by the
students easily, thus the proponent suggests that the teacher should implement a policy in
class, that everyday his students should come on school on time , let’s say 7:00am sharp.
To make this policy effective the teacher may give some incentives or gifts to those
students who come early or on time. By doing this the students can practice being
punctual.

V. Analysis
This proposal will be very effective if properly implemented. The teacher should have
first the initiative to guide the students on how to become punctual. The cooperation of
the students is also a big factor, thus the ability of the teacher to lead will be tested in this
matter. A promise of a passing grade and some gifts will make the students cooperate.
This approach is very important for the students to learn in this very early moment, for
them not to depart from this when they aged. This attitude will surely be their edge to
others, they will be admired too.

Punctuality: Approach to Grade 5
I. Objective/ Rationale
To define punctuality by discussing its opposite and consequential traits.
To discuss the importance of identifying the causes of tardiness in order to deal
with it properly.
To promote advance thinking by considering the possible consequences that may
arise from a situation involving unpunctuality.
II. Content
First Day at Work
Sulekha had just been appointed in the multinational bank. After one month of
rigorous training today was her first day to display the result of the training.
She got up as usual, but decided to skip her gym workout as she did not want to risk
getting late to office on her first day itself. She went through her morning routine
and spent a lot of time in deciding what to wear. None of her dresses seemed to
appeal to her- either they were a little too bold for a first day or they were a little
too dull and she definitely wanted to make an impression right from the start.
Finally she settled on the white embroidered churidhar set combined with a tie and
dye duppatta.
She waved bye to her mom and set off cheerfully towards the bus stop. But she saw
a bus leaving the stop just as she turned round the corner. Now she would have to
wait for a good 15 minutes. She stood there patiently. 15 minutes passed and then
30 minutes and there was no sign of the bus. There was not a single rickshaw too in
sight. Now what would she do? She had to reach office on time. She saw a rick
approaching but as she tried to stop it, the driver speeded on without even a glance.
And still no trace of a bus. It was then that a car stopped near her and a man waved
out to her. He said, "Aren't you working at the bank at Nariman Point? My office
too is in the same building. Can I give you a lift?"

Sulekha was hesitant at first but then forced herself to get in as she was going to get
late. They exchanged preliminary formalities and then he switched on the radio and
absorbed in the song, Sulekha realised too late that they were not on the familiar
route to her office. She asked the man to stop the car but he did not heed her and
asked her to shut up.

1. Preliminary exercise
Ask some students to volunteer to go to the board and write any negative word
which come to their mind when they hear or see the word “tardiness”. This
could be done by webbing.
2. Discussion/ Recitation
Ask the students the following questions:
Who was the man? What do you think of his intention? Do you think
Sulekha reach her office on time?
What causes Sulekha’s tardiness?
When you are Sulekha, what could have you done to prevent such kind
of mishap?
3. Ask the students to look at the words on the board. Ask them to identify the
single word that signifies the positive trait that could have prevented those
negative words on the blackboard.
4. Finally, reiterate the advantages an individual may have for being punctual.

IV. Follow- up
The adviser should take attendance on time regularly. Offer reinforcements (e.g. plus
points, exemption in examination, quizzes etc.) to those students who can make it on
class daily and on time. Also, let a student explains his/her being late on class.
V. Analysis
By letting the students to be aware of the negative outcomes of not exercising
punctuality, they will be eager to develop the sense of responsibility and discipline to
keep themselves of such mishap or misfortunes that may arise from being tardy. They
will be also aware of the short-term and long-term rewards that an individual can have for
being punctual for as the time passes, punctuality may not only be a value but will also
become their trait. Punctuality is one of the characteristics and behavior necessary for
success not only in school but also in work and in everyday setting.

I. Objective/ Rationale
To further instill to the minds of the students the importance of punctuality.
To discuss the role of time management in practicing punctuality.
To encourage students to practice utilize their time effectively and efficiently.

The teacher will ask a student familiar with the line in the teaser to tell some-
thing about it. The teacher should make the students reflect that being late for
something means you have no time not only for that certain thing but also for
other things.

Ask the students the following questions:
What is the theme of the poem?
What are the things men naturally love?
What is implied in the poem that should be done in order to overcome
it?
What can you say about the last stanza of the poem?
Note: The teacher can also ask the students to write an essay
answering these following questions.

response to the call of punctuality.
4. Give some tools/techniques ought to be helpful in making time management.
IV. Follow- up
Encourage students to do time management by teaching them effective ways on how to
do it and encourage them to use their creativity in making it.
A. Homework:
168 Hours per Week: Complete a time analysis
Each week has 168 hours (24 hours per day x 7 days per week). Analyze how much time
you spend in an average week on sleep, meals, chores, exercise, transportation, work,
family responsibilities, classes and studying. Look at the following example of a time
analysis:
Hours per activity in a 7 day week:

Meals 14 hours
Chores 5 hours
Exercise 5 hours
Transportation 5 hours
Family 5 hours
Classes 40 hours
Studying 30 hours
Total 160 hours

Flexible Time= Hours per week- total hours per activity
FT= 168- 160; 8hrs.
The student should answer the following questions:
What can you do to effectively utilize the time for each activity in a week?
What can you say about the fact that you have actually a lot of time in a day? In a
week?
What is flexible time? Why do you think it is important to have some?
Additional requirement:
Make a time worksheet that will record all the activities, from useless to useful
things, which you have done or have allotted time with in a daily basis for the
next week. Creativity in doing the worksheet will be credited.
V. Analysis
Letting the students be aware on how they use their time is tantamount to elimination of
anything unpunctual. Teaching them how to devise time management in everything they
do will promote responsibility and discipline in handling their time well. Later on, they
will find it useful as they will learn from the consequences of leaving their time
worksheet blank. They will realize that punctuality regularizes activities and thereby
makes best use of time.
