• Third oldest public School of Pharmacy West of the Mississippi River – 1885. 125th Anniversary in 2010

• The KU School of Pharmacy home campus is

located in Lawrence • 150 students are admitted into the professional

program at KU-Lawrence each year • The KU School of Pharmacy – Wichita campus

● An evolutionary process - constantly changing in response to the composition of the applicant pool and demands of the profession

● Majority of applicants are acceptable candidates ● 170 positions available and around 300 applicants - 150 student capacity on the Lawrence Campus - 20 student capacity on the Wichita Campus

● Applicant, if at an institution other than KU, must also apply

to the University of Kansas for admission to KU as an undergraduate, degree seeking, ‘Transfer Student’

● Applicants that are current KU students must complete a

‘Change of School’ form in the Dean’s Office of the KU School of Pharmacy

● All applicants, students at KU and Transfer Students, must

also apply directly to the KU School of Pharmacy following the instructions on our website and submit the required supplemental application materials

Pharmacy College Admissions Test - PCAT

● www.pcatweb.info ● The one common denominator for ALL applicants ● Structure similar to the ACT test taken in high school ● Content is chemistry, math, biology, verbal skills, reading comprehension and an essay writing exercise ● Scores for each component are reported as a percentile as well as a composite percentile score ● The PCAT for Fall 2016 applicants must have been taken within the time frame of Oct. 2013 through January 2016

Applicant Ranking Process

● An overall grade point average, Pre-Pharmacy specific grade point average, and Pre-Pharmacy science grade point average is calculated for each applicant

● PCAT scores are received and recorded for each applicant ● The GPA data and PCAT scores are input into a mathematical

formula, that weights the PCAT and GPA science components, to compute a unique individual applicant score

● A numerical ranking of all applicants is established based on

each individual applicant’s score ● The applicant score and ranking are for internal use only and

not disclosed to the applicant

Admissions Committee Evaluation Process

● Committee members review and evaluate applicant files providing comment on their GPA, PCAT scores, and quality and content of the Applicant Profile, Letters of Recommendation and any supplemental information.

● Applicant evaluations are reported to the entire committee with a recommendation to: 1) interview the applicant; 2) hold the file for further review; or, 3) to deny the application.

● Applicants determined to be most qualified for consideration of admission are selected for a personal admissions interview.

Admissions Interview Process

● Interviews conducted by 2 to 3 Admissions Committee members

● Interviews are scheduled for 30 minutes in duration

● Primary interview days scheduled weekday late afternoon and evenings and possibly on a Saturday in February and March

● Around 200+ interviews conducted each year

● All admitted students participate in the interview process

Admissions Selection Process

● Admissions Committee members meet following the interview process to consider all aspects, objective and subjective, for applicants interviewed ● Based on post-interview assessment applicants are ranked and either admitted or denied admission ● Acceptance and matriculation rate for first time offers is 90+% ● A very small cadre of alternates are designated for consideration to fill any positions not accepted by individuals offered a position in the School
