APPOINTMENT OF CORPORATE OPERATIONS DIRECTOR APPOINTMENT BRIEF

JULY 2020

Page 2: APPOINTMENT OF CORPORATE OPERATIONS DIRECTOR€¦ · Langley House Trust is seeking to appoint a Corporate Operations Director to lead and manage consistently safe and outstanding

AN INTRODUCTION FROM TRACY WILD, OUR CHIEF EXECUTIVE Dear applicant,

We are delighted that you are interested in joining Langley

House Trust. This is a key position which sits within our small

executive team, which will comprise of just three Directors. This

Corporate Director role has significant influence within our

organisation. The person will lead and direct the current and

future work of the Trust.

Langley House Trust is an innovative Christian charity that

provides specialist housing, programmes and support services

in the community, and targeted advice in prisons, for offenders

seeking to live crime-free.

Since 1958 we have earned an enviable reputation for reducing

reoffending with proven results. Part of the Langley House

Trust Group, Kainos Community and Clean Sheet transform

lives; Kainos runs Challenge to Change, a pioneering prison

wing community and post-release mentoring programme, and

Clean Sheet helps people with convictions to find sustainable

employment after prison. Regardless of a person’s history, our

passion is to change every life or the better. This passion to see

lives changed for the better is what unites our staff and

volunteers.

Langley House Trust is first and foremost about mission and this within a context of managing risk

carefully, and ensuring we run an efficient and effective business that remains viable for the longer term,

so that future generations can benefit from its services.

Since 2015 Langley House Trust’s income has grown by £3.5m (34.4%) and net assets have grown by 18.4%

to £8.3m. Langley House Trust is keen to develop and grow not because it wants to improve the bottom

line financially but because it believes there are unmet needs within the sectors in which we work, and so

that others can benefit from our life changing services.

We are seeking to recruit a committed Christian whose character matches our values. The person we seek

will have significant experience in senior leadership. We would like a person who can reflect on their work

and their decision making but is decisive. It is important that you can identify key issues and lead others to

be the best version of themselves, helping them to focus and deliver according to Trust priorities.

We seek a person who is resilient, hardworking and able to give the breadth and depth of assurance

required by both executive colleagues and the Board of Trustees across key areas of their portfolio.

Langley House Trust is missional and as such if you seek to join an organisation where you will make a

difference, look no further - we offer this and more.

I would like to conclude by thanking you for your interest and pray God will guide you in your future steps.

Tracy

ABOUT LANGLEY HOUSE TRUST Langley House Trust is a dynamic Christian Charity, built on a strong legacy of providing housing and support to

some of the most marginalised groups in our society, namely those who have offended and for a variety of reasons

have struggled to find their place and sense of worth in communities again. We often work with individuals who

other similar organisations have been unable to retain and we pride ourselves on this as a core part of our ethos:

our vision is of a crime-free society where no-one is unfairly disadvantaged or excluded because of their past.

Langley has a rich history and was established in 1958 by a group of Christians who were motivated by their passion

to see the lives of offenders changed for the better. We are proud of our heritage and staff who join us, whether

from a place of having a personal faith or none, often tell us they are drawn to Langley’s values which centre around

behaving in a way that is Christ-centred, Visionary, Responsible, Respectful and Honest.

During 2018-19 we worked with 914 clients through the variety of services we provide: We offer specialist housing

for offenders through a range of support and care offers. We provide psychological services for those who need it

and are experienced in working effectively with and retaining clients who experience learning disabilities,

challenging mental health, issues with substance misuse and impulse control behaviours which can lead to a lack of

consequential thinking. Of our 15 services nationally, 8 offer care and are registered with and regulated by the Care

Quality Commission (CQC). We have demonstrated that for those requiring personal care, we are well equipped to

provide what is needed, especially when there may also be a history of complex needs or particular types of

offending behaviour that can make these individuals hard to place elsewhere. Across our hostel, dispersed

community housing and residential care services we have over 500 bed spaces and work closely with Local

Authorities, Clinical and Joint Commissioning Groups, individual Prisons and Probation services, the Ministry of

Justice and others to manage the appropriate referral, assessment and safe placement of clients into our services.

The impact of our excellent community based provision is mirrored in our work through two prison programmes;

the first is delivered under Langley’s Kainos banner and offers an intensive behavioural change programme,

Challenge to Change, initially delivered at HMP Haverigg in Cumbria and since 2019 within HMP Lancaster Farms.

We also deliver a contract in custodial settings on behalf of Ixion, which supports debt and gambling as well as

accommodation.

Clean Sheet is also part of the Langley group, offering clients who are work-ready an opportunity to access

employers who are supportive of those with offending in their past, and looking to support them into a better future

through employment and training.

In June 2019 we were re-awarded the Investors in People Gold Award, which is testament to the consistently high

standard of work we provide across the Langley House Trust Group. Langley was also awarded Care and Support

Provider of the Year 2019 by 24 Housing Awards and continues to benchmark its success against other care and

housing providers in the market. Fewer than 3% of our client group are convicted of a further offence whilst with us,

and this has been a consistent outcome over many years.

Our vision Our vision is of a crime-free society where no-one is unfairly disadvantaged or excluded because of their past.

Our mission Our mission is to work with those who are at risk of offending or have offended, establishing positive foundations so

that they can lead crime-free lives and become contributors to society.

Our values Our values guide our thinking and actions – they set out the ‘way we do things’.

• Christ-centred – we put Christ’s teachings at the heart of what we do and how we do it

• Responsible – we look after those who are brought into our care

• Respectful – we value difference and actively engage with others in teams and in partnership

• Visionary – we see those we care for as individuals and what they can be, and not how society labels them

because of their past

• Integrity – we have strong principles and are honest
