A Few Simple Words from Fr. Robert Sunday, April 23, 2017

MAY 7, 2017 As we strive to be good “stewards for tomorrow” and work through the pastoral planning process together, one factor that we know calls for immediate at-

tention is our great need for more priestly vocations in the Archdiocese of Hartford. Our Lord told us: “The harvest is great but the laborers are few, so PRAY to the Master of the Harvest to send laborers into His harvest” (Mt 9:37). Every Fourth Sunday of Easter is designated as the World Day of Prayer for Vocations. Please consider this an invitation to pray and reflect on your role in fostering priestly vocations in your family and your parish. For the “Prayer to Know One’s Vocation” and to read the

vocation newsletter, visit: www.hartfordpriest.com.

If you know of a parishioner who is a senior citizen and needs a little more attention, please let us know so that we can reach out to him or her. A Most Worthy Parish Ministry Our parish bereavement group is meeting in the Parish Center again this spring. There are so many people in-volved that they have split into two groups. This ministry has been a great source of comfort to so many people over the years. I was touched and grateful when I popped my head in the door and said hello to everyone, and saw the number of people gathered in both rooms. Please keep this important ministry in your prayers. He is Risen - He is Truly Risen I want to thank Deacon Carmen, the Friars, the musi-cians, the Masters of Ceremony, Altar Servers, the dec-orating committee, Eucharistic Ministers, readers, and everyone one who made our Easter liturgies and our church so beautiful during Easter. So many people com-plimented us on the way we celebrate Easter at St. Paul Parish. Alleluia, alleluia, alleluia!!!

God Bless, Fr. Robert

Beautiful, But Big Changes Ahead After two years of thought and prayer, I have decided, with the approval of the Pastoral Council, to return the parish celebration of First Communion to regular Sunday Masses. Other parishes in the area have begun to make this change and I feel that it is absolutely the right thing to do. With this change in mind, I know that the next two weeks are going to be different. A schedule of the First Communion celebrations can be found on the next page of the bulletin, and on our website. It is my ex-pectation that First Communion Masses will be crowded. The first rows in both wings will be reserved for the imme-diate families of the children of our First Communion clas-ses. The extended families will most likely fill in some spaces in the back. You will probably not be able to get your usual seat because of the larger than normal crowds. However, you will be able to see the little ones receive our Lord for the first time, and they will experience the support of the parish at large as they take this important step in their lives. Change is difficult for some, but I know that you will make our children and their families feel welcome at St. Paul and Sacred Heart churches. I know that as you enter and leave church you will congratulate our little ones and let them know how proud the whole parish is of them. If all of this change is too much for you, simply go to one of the Masses that is not scheduled for a First Commun-ion celebration. As I said above the complete schedule is in the bulletin and on our website. Our children are the future of the church. We have so much to be grateful for here at St. Paul Parish. Helping Hands As you may know, every parishioner in our parish 80+ years of age receives a little extra attention. We try to check up on them a little more frequently, and we send an annual letter to make sure that we have up-to-date emer-gency contact information for them. We also try to give extra attention to our senior citizens who are alone and do not have family close by. This week or next, we will be sending out approximately 700 letters to our senior pa-rishioners. Please take the time to fill out the form and send it back to the office at the Parish Center. You can do so via the collection basket, dropping it in the mail slot of the Parish Center or mailing it to the Parish Center. Our Helping Hands ministry, under the new direction of Gail and Tom Hodolitz, is looking forward to hearing from you. A special thank you to Carl and Cathy Ginotti who shep-herded this ministry for 3 years.

DEFENDING RELIGIOUS LIBERTY #269 APR. 23, 2017

PRAY FOR SOMEONE IN NEED OF PRAYERS!

THE CHILDREN'S ROSARY is a pray-er group movement that was begun out of love for Our Lady and Her Son. Jesus tells us "Truly, I say to you unless you turn and become like children you will never enter the Kingdom of Heav-en" (Matthew 18:3). The Children's Rosary is an effort to begin in parishes rosary prayer groups composed of children and led by children. Through prayer of the Rosary Our Lady will guide our young people while at the same time sanctify families and Parishes.

Our CHILDREN'S ROSARY GROUP meets on the first Saturday of each month at 10 am at Sacred Heart Church. Prayer time lasts about 25

minutes, followed by refreshments in the hall downstairs.
