Jesus of Nazareth, age 33, lifelong resident of Nazareth died Friday of severe wounds inflicted by the Roman government. He is survived by his mother Mary, four brothers (Joseph, Simon, Judas, and James) of Jerusalem, as well as sisters. He was predeceased by his stepfather Joseph and a close cousin John the Baptist.Though a Nazarene, he was born in Bethlehem while his parents were participating in a government census for taxation.He spent most of his life assisting his stepfather in his carpentry business until age 30 when he began an itinerant ministry in and around the area of Galilee.He was recognized as a friend to sinners and will be sorely missed by all who knew and love Him. Funeral arrangements are incomplete at this time, although internment will be in the Arimathean family plot just outside the city.

Over the weekend an itinerant preacher’s tomb, only a couple of days old, was re reported open and empty by two of His fol-lowers who had gone there to complete the embalming process.This was no ordinary grave robber episode since, apparently, the man had no earthly valuables worthy of stealing. Further-more, the local religious authorities had persuaded the civil government to place a military guard on the tomb to prevent just such an occurrence—hardly worth the risk.More bizarre than that, there was apparently the appearance of a supernatural phenomenon in the tomb, which some say was an angelic visitation.The official government statement is simply that the guard went to sleep and the deceased’s followers stole His body. Un-named sources within the military deny this, but are reluctant tocomment further on the record. It is known, however, that in spite of all the previous precautions, which only resulted in a missing body, the authorities have decided not to mount an official search to dispel the rumors.The most bizarre thing coming out of this story is the claim by one of the followers, named Mary, that she saw the deceased alive and well, in a nearby garden, actually speaking with Him. No doubt we will bring you more on this story in coming days.

Lost are saved, find their way; all condemned and we feel no shame; every tear has no place; the enemy has to flee, all the weak find their strength; hungry souls receive grace; the fatherless find their rest; the sick are healed, the dead are raised at the sound of Your Great Name…. Natalie Grant We live in a time when everyone wants to prove their great name. Everyone wants to make a name for themselves, to prove how important they are, how much they do. We desire to be noticed, to be admired, and to let people see what good people we are and how much we have things “together”… all to bring a sense of identity to ourselves. We each place faith in ourselves to perform well in our jobs, in our ability as a spouse or parent, even our ability to create viable and successful ministries. And, as long as these things that we place our faith in are performing well, or performing to our satisfaction, we are happy and we can claim a part in their success and say that the glory is for God. But what happens when we fail, when we lose our job, when we let down our spouse, or when our spouse has failed us in some way? What happens when our children make mistakes? What happens when we do not feel like our ministry is succeeding? Should our faith be based on performance?

The trouble is, when I seek my own desires no matter how noble or just the cause is, I lose sight of the importance of what has already been done for me. I miss embracing my true identity. God promised in Isaiah 56:1… for my salvation is close at hand and my righteousness will soon be revealed. God was foretelling through the prophet Isaiah, the redemption that we have through the blood of His Son . Romans 3:22-24 says The righteousness from God comes through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is no difference, for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus. Ephesians 4:23-24 states that we are to be made new in the attitude of our minds and to put on the new self which is created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness. Ephesians 6:10 guides us to be strong in the Lord and His mighty power. This is our identity: we are redeemed through Christ alone and now we are called to walk in His grace, striving to live in Christ, in righteousness by the power of Christ.

INSPIRATION

Slowly and somberly, children’s voices sang the words to the Easter hymn. “Low in the grave He lay/Jesus my Savior/Waiting the coming day/Jesus, my Lord.” Then, with a bound of enthusiasm, they jumped to their feet and lifted the ceiling with the cry, “Up from the grave He arose/With a mighty triumph o’er His foes….He arose!” What glory ushered in the Resurrection season as we sang the old hymns! Don’t get me wrong. I love contemporary worship music and revel in lyrics and melodies that bring down the splendor of the heavenlies. Yet, along with many of my generation, I miss the old hymns. Sort of. Since I don’t get to sing them very often, I read them for the enrichment they bring to my personal quiet times. It’s like the long ago days when the Psalter and the Bible were kept side by side. Recently, as I meditated on the words of The Old Rugged Cross, the words “dearest and best” latched on to the fibers of my brain. Those words dog my steps as I contemplate what it cost the Father to give up His Son. The gospel of John reveals that Jesus was the Father’s beloved, one and only, and united with Him in the Trinity. Yet, when humanity was dead in trespasses and sin, clothed in filthy rags, God sent His dearest and best to become sin for us, and Jesus willingly came. Paul writes that we were God’s enemies, yet “God demonstrates His own love for us in this: while we were still sinners, Christ died for us (Romans 5:8). Even though the Bible is very clear about how vile our sin is, we rarely grasp the extravagance of the God’s gift in sending His dearest and best to “pardon and sanctify me” (more words from The Old Rugged Cross). As believers, we know that God did not lose forever His dearest and best. The miraculous resurrection of His beloved Son completed Jesus’ mission of pardoning. Now the Savior is reunited with the Father, watching and waiting for the day He can call us home. By Jesus’ act of redemption, we are heirs of God

and joint-heirs with Christ. We enjoy the privilege of being dearest and best in their eternal family. When George Bennard penned The Old Rugged Cross in 1913, he knew there was responsibility to be lived out as recipients of God’s pardon. He writes of laying down trophies. Perhaps these trophies are “the good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do Ephesians 2:10). Our present calling may require giving up our dearest and best for God’s eternal purpose. Nothing we give up can compare to the trophies of obedience we will lay at Jesus’ nail-scarred feet. As we cling to the old rugged cross, Bennard writes, we’ll exchange it someday for a crown. “Then He’ll call me someday/To my home far away/Where His glory forever I’ll share.” Let’s celebrate the glory of the old rugged cross and resurrection as we give our dearest and best back to the Father. He gave His all, and now He longs to unite us with the Victor who tore the bars of death away and makes us alive forever. Happy Easter!

I have nothing to prove. Just as the lyrics to the old hymn state, Jesus paid it all, all to Him I owe, sin had left a crimson stain, He washed it white as snow. Nothing that I do can add to what Christ has already done for me. I can move forward in faith, resting in God, who writes and perfects my faith. Hebrews 12:2 says Jesus is the founder and perfector of faith, another version says author and finisher. My faith flows out from the faith God has made available to me. Hebrews 11:1 says that faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen. Psalm 146:6 tells me that it is the Lord who keeps faith forever. I will indeed fail, but He does not fail. Faith can so easily be made into what God can help me to achieve. This is so tempting a thought because it has a part truth in it. God can achieve anything. But he does not have to prove himself to us because He has already done that. Having faith is about what God can do in and through me, to the praise of His glory. Someone once said that there is power in submission. We humbly submit ourselves to the working of the Holy Spirit and He moves us along, accomplishing what He determines to bring glory to Him alone. God is not my co-pilot. He created and owns the plane,

He made the skies, and he creates the wind, and guess what? He also directs and fuels the plane. My job is to submit to His authority and follow His leading, which means that I need to know him well. I believe Piper has said that God always answers prayer… His answer is always yes, no or later… Having faith is resting in who God is and being completely dependant on Him. All things are possible through Christ, but nothing is deserved. In short, my life is not my own. My faith is not my own. My purpose is not my own. My joy is complete when I am at rest in the Lord. I wish to be a vessel that is propelled by God, following His will to bring glory to Him. This movement toward him continually brings me face to face with my internal selfish motives, motives that need to be exposed and bathed in Truth so that life may rise out of the ashes... Lord, search me and know me. See if there be anything in me at all that might keep me from knowing You and experiencing the freedom of Your grace at work in my life. Take away my selfishness and pridefulness. I confess my need to prove myself, to make a name for myself. Help me to be yours and to be found at rest in Your Great Name.

“The line separating good and evil passes not through states, nor between classes, nor between political parties either, but right through every human heart.” These words, penned in 1973 by then-Soviet dissident and Christian writer Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn, brilliantly sum up the human condition after the Fall. And they explain the shocking tragedy of Staff Sargent Robert Bales, the U.S. soldier who allegedly murdered 16 Afghan civilians — women and children among them — in cold blood. You know the story. Bales was on his fourth combat tour. He was a decorated soldier, a family man, well-liked and respected by his superiors and his neighbors. But on that fateful night, something inside Bales’s mind or soul went horribly wrong. He left his base for a nearby village, we are told, and went on a wild rampage of evil. But how, why? Did he “snap” as we are hearing and reading about? Was the pressure of four combat tours too much? Did seeing his friend lose a leg the day before set him off? Was he indeed drinking that night? Well, those could all be factors. But back to Solzhenitsyn: In describing the line separating evil and good in the human heart, he also had this to say: “This line shifts. Inside us, it oscillates with the years. Even within hearts overwhelmed by evil, one small bridgehead of good is retained; and even in the best of all hearts, there remains a small corner of evil.” The tragedy in Afghanistan should remind us all that evil is real. Times this week rightly cited G.K. Chesterton, who wrote that original sin “is the only part of Christian theology which can really be proved.” And it is proven, over and over, throughout history. In my book Being the Body, I tell the story of Nazi mass murderer and Holocaust mastermind Adolf Eichmann. Kidnapped in 1960 by Israeli agents, he was put on trial in Israel. One witness against him was an Auschwitz survivor named Yehiel Dinur. Dinur entered the courtroom and stared at Eichmann. Their eyes met. After a few tension-filled moments, Dinur broke down and began to shout and sob. Why? Was it the memories of Auschwitz? Was Eichmann evil incarnate? No, as Dinur explained on 60 Minutes, it was the fact that Eichmann was an ordinary man. Dinur saw so clearly that sin and evil are part of the human condition. “I was afraid about myself. I saw that I am capable to do this . . . Eichmann is in all of us.” Justice demands that Staff Sgt. Bales be tried for his crimes. But as we soberly, mournfully ponder what happened that night in Afghanistan, we must remember that we human beings, made in God’s image though we are, are nonetheless fallen. That although we are capable of the most sublime acts of charity, goodness and beauty, we are also capable of the most outrageous acts of depravity. And only the Christian worldview gives us the ability to see things — even human nature — as they really are. And if we cannot understand things the way they are and live our lives accordingly, then God have mercy on us all.

Jenny Williamson, Founder and President of Courage To Be You, Inc.(C2BU), an international, non-profit Christian organization that seeks to change the world, one individual at a time by helping people discover their purpose, went to church one Sunday over three years ago, never expecting her own life to change that day. But when she heard a couple from her church speak about child sex trafficking in Cambodia, her heart was pierced. “As a mom, everything in me screamed this is wrong! I had to do something.”

Jenny began with research. She expected to find information on trafficking overseas, but was shocked to discover the crisis hit home. “Everywhere I looked… it was Sacramento, Sacramento, Sacramento. I felt a sense of excitement because I felt like I could do something about it. This issue was in my own backyard.”

That’s when the journey to build Courage House began. More than a house, it is a home—a safe place where victims of sex trafficking are able to heal physically, emotionally and spiritually. “These girls’ families have failed them,” says Jenny, referring to the high rates of abuse and neglect among trafficking victims, “so

it’s up to us as a community to be their family—to protect them and help them find their sense of purpose again.” Due to the hidden nature of the crime of sex trafficking, the exact number of domestic children being trafficked in the United States is unknown, but a University of Pennsylvania study estimated nearly 300,000 youth in the United States were at risk of being sexually exploited for commercial uses. According to UNICEF, as many as two million children are subjected to prostitution in the commercial sex trade around the world.

Courage House is not just a structure or building, a program or approach; it is a place where hope is given, healing is offered, and lives are renewed. With locations already open in Northern California and Tanzania, Africa, C2BU has seen the power of family and resources in restoring children to lives filled with hope, purpose, and love.

It is C2BU’s vision and passion is to open more Courage Houses around the world so that recovered victims will have a safe place to belong and begin the journey of restoration and transformation. “So much has been accomplished,” says Jenny, “but there is still so much more to do. There are so many kids out there who

Looking back to the first Race for Awareness 5K in 1997, never in a million years did Larry Geweke think that “Pink October” would turn into a community-wide fundraising campaign for breast cancer. Now 15 years later, Pink October has developed into 6 annual events in the Yuba-Sutter community, along with a host of many other events that benefit the cause. This journey has not only been led by Christ but continues to grow because of his glory and the faith of our community. In 2011, through the direction of Nancy Elrod and handfuls of community leaders and volunteers, Pink October raised a total of $105,000. These funds stay local in our community and help women and men who are fighting the battle of breast cancer. Pink October is made up of two branches. “Pink October” is the philanthropy arm for the funds raised. All events and campaigns run under this name. The Geweke’s Caring for Women Foundation was started in 2006. Funds raised by Pink October are slowly distributed through the Foundation to help the local applicants. To date, Geweke’s Caring for Women Foundation has helped a total of 170 women through financial assistance of up to $2,000 while going through treatment for breast cancer. The Foundation assists in everything from medical bills, mortgage and rent payments, transportation costs and even burial or memorial services. The Foundation serves as a support system to these patients and helps ease financial stress that this battle often causes. In the past, funds raised from Pink October went towards assistance in the cost of mammograms for women who had little to no insurance. In 2005, Pink October medical partners (Sutter Medical Foundation, Fremont Rideout Health Group, PeachTree Healthcare and Sutter Buttes Imaging) generously stepped in to cover these costs. Because of them, Geweke was able to start their Foundation.

In addition to helping individuals, Geweke’s Caring for Women Foundation has the funds to give back to their medical partners through needed technology, patient care items and assistance in the fight of breast cancer. In 2011, the Foundation was able to purchase two computer monitors for Fremont Rideout Health Group to assist in the imaging and targeting of breast tissue. Just last week, they were able to grant Sutter Medical Foundation $30,000 to assist in the purchase of a breast biopsy machine which will be housed at the Sutter Surgery Center in Yuba City. By assisting in the purchase of new technology and breast cancer equipment for their local medical partners, the Foundation can spread their arms to help the community as a whole through early detection and treatment in addition to a case by case basis. The Geweke family says it best when discussing their commitment to breast cancer awareness. According to them, Pink October has been just as much a blessing for them as it has the community and women that they have helped. They have been able to meet a countless number of survivors; learn about their battle, strong will, courage and love. Their events in Yuba-Sutter (they also have events and a Foundation in Lodi, CA) make them a very busy family in October, but they wouldn’t have it any other way. While they weren’t directly affected by Breast Cancer when starting in 1997, they now have a number of family and friends who have fought the battle; some winning and some losing. While prayer and support holds #1 in the fight against any battle or illness, top grade medical technology and financial assistance certainly calms the nerves and helps you sleep a little easier during the fight of your life. The fool has said in his heart,“There is no God.” ~Psalm 14:1 I submitted the above headline to our local billboard company to run for the month of April and it was rejected. Interesting that they chose not to run this ad yet have no problem displaying ads that are sexual and suggestive in nature. They want to make sure that atheists are not offended but have no problem offending parents who are trying to protect their children from explicit content. With that said, let me explain why I would want to run this billboard advertisement. First of all, I personally am not calling anyone a fool, God is and I do my best to be in agreement with Him. Secondly, atheists have the freedom to practice their “unbelief in God.” No one is stopping them. Many organized atheistic groups are threatening (and following through on) lawsuits to stop schools, government officials, and anyone in public meetings from having a religious voice primarily Christians and specifically Christians who proclaim the name of Jesus Christ in public prayer. So, I for one have had enough. By the way, God does not

give any credibility to atheism. Read carefully the following verses: Romans 1:18-20 The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of men who suppress the truth by their wickedness, since what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them. For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities--his eternal power and divine nature--have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse. Please re-read the bold print. This does not mean that I intend to be rude or disrespectful to any group. It does mean that I will challenge (and I have) anyone who claims that God does not exist and that the world is some sort of arbitrary accident. We cannot sit back and be silent weenie sissies anymore. Let’s boldly proclaim what we believe even in the face of oppositional “I believe in nothing” atheists. God is in the business of using ordinary people to do His will in extraordinary ways. In Yuba City, a group of women prayed earnestly for God to open a door so orphaned, dying children in Africa could be saved. Since it’s beginning in 1991, God has led the Samaritan Village mission to help these children. Today, a growing group of volunteers continues to champion this life saving work and many children who would otherwise have died are living and thriving.

Samaritan Village members donate their time monthly to meet and plan fund raising activities to support the orphanage and oversee the work of the Orphanage. Throughout the year, board members and supporters organize and put on two major fund raising concert/dinner events here in Yuba City; man a booth weekly at the Yuba City Farmer’s Market to sell African artifacts to raise funds; attend events and speak in our community to provide information to interested citizens about the Orphanage. Quarterly, members publish and mail a newsletter to supporters around the U.S. to provide updates on the children and work being done. A website (http://www.samaritan-village.org/) and Facebook page (Samaritan Village Orphanage) provide current information

about the Orphans.

Samaritan Village founder, Elizabeth Mwalozi-Mswiaand board members keep in close contact with the Orphanage through weekly telephone and email contact. Annually, a group of board members and supporters visit Arusha, Tanzania to spend time with the children living at the orphanage. (All travel is solely at the expense of the individuals traveling). Importantly, as it began, it continues to be a work of the heart and earnestly depending on God’s leading. All work is done by volunteer effort so that all funds raised can be sent for the direct care of the children. Currently, the orphanage cares for 28 children. From baby to 14 years old, the children live as a “family” in a large residence for the younger children and dormitory for the school age children. Their day begins at 4:00 am with Swahili Christian music from the Chapel at the orphanage signaling the start of the day and soon all gather at the Chapel for singing and worship. School days finds the school age children each attending Christian schools in Arusha while the younger children remain and are cared for by “mamas” as the nurses and caretakers are called. I continually thank God for the wisdom and foresight of our founding fathers while in the same breath pray that God will grant us the wisdom and good sense to follow their lead. You know, like sticking to the Constitution and upholding the values it represents. But alas, it seems my prayers are having little effect. Our current “leaders” seem bent on misinterpreting, circumventing or ignoring the Constitution altogether in order to achieve a political agenda. The latest example is the federally mandated contraception coverage in employer provided health insurance. This mandate is in direct opposition to the freedom of religion clause of the first amendment because it legislates faith based institutions to provide something that goes against their religious beliefs. (“Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion or prohibiting the free exercise thereof,…). In fact, the whole of Obama’s “Universal Health Care” is before the United States Supreme Court because it mandates private citizens to purchase a product, or incur a punitive fine…well for most of us. If you happen to be in a union, a select business or just well connected, you can file for an exemption. Oh…and check this out; the very people who brought you “Universal Health Care,” have chosen to opt out too. Is it just me, or does that kinda make it not so, you know, “Universal?” Recently, I’ve become increasingly concerned about a movement that aims to seriously jeopardize our right to free speech. This latest threat comes under the guise of fighting intolerance. “The Organization of Islamic Cooperation,” has been pushing for a global blasphemy law that would, in effect, take Islam beyond reproach. So far they have been pretty successful in convincing other countries to buy in to this favored religion ploy. But dog gone it, that pesky old U. S. Constitution throws a bit of a stumbling block in their path to special status. There was a time when such talk wouldn’t have bothered me, but the dismal record of our elected “representatives” and our courts

to defend our freedom gives me reason to pause. According to an article titled “Blasphemy and Free Speech” by Paul Marshall, Senior Fellow at the Hudson Institute, the OIC has the ear of some high level officials of our government. In 2009, in Cairo, President Obama declared in a speech, that he had a responsibility to “fight against negative stereotypes of Islam, whenever they appear.” Really? Then in 2011, Secretary of State Clinton co-chaired with the OIC a conference in Istanbul on “Combating Religious Intolerance.” Uh-oh! But wait, there’s more. Mrs. Clinton then announced another conference with the OIC to “exchange ideas” and discuss “implementation” of measures our government might take to combat negative stereotypes of Islam. This would not restrict free speech she said. But then, what does our defender of freedom do next? She closes the conference to the public and enacts the “Chatham House Rule” which means we are not privy to who said what. Well golly-gee, that makes me feel so much better. Look, Islam has every right to deal with blasphemy within the Muslim faith, just don’t force it on mine. Our founding fathers recognized tyranny for what it truly is…I’m not so sure about those we have in power now. We should defend freedom and let God deal with blasphemers. He will do it right.

The Fox 40 news anchor introduced the story “Gay couple arrested on a cruise ship for being gay”. Sure does sound discriminating doesn’t it? It should “sound” that way. It’s meant to but if you watch the story you’ll find out “the rest of the story” as Paul Harvey used to say. You’ll learn that the ship was docked at Dominica, a state that has its own laws and one of them is that homosexual sex is illegal. So, the Dominican authorities went aboard the ship to arrest the couple. Wait! How did the authorities know that the couple was engaging in “illegal” homosexual sex? Oh, maybe because they were performing it in public view. That’s how the dock worker was able to know and respond (appropriately, I might add) by contacting law enforcement. It is not only a crime in Dominica to engage in homosexual sex but also indecent exposure and public lewdness. Isn’t that still a criminal offense in this nation as well or have we completely given immunity for all in a protected class. This took place on a so called “gay cruise”. Well, I guess that might

be what they allow on board but it sure does not deserve the protection of others. Good for you, Dominica! I’m all for rights for those who are persecuted unjustly, but when did rights apply to anything that a certain protected group does? If a heterosexual couple were performing sexual acts in public, they would and should be arrested. Why have we allowed gay parades and other such venues where perverse acts are on public display? If the couple on that ship had done what is supposed to be done in private, there would be no news story. Americans typically balk at foreign diplomats who misuse the “immunity” laws to get out of fines and tickets while in our land. I guess that doesn’t apply elsewhere. Dominica didn’t seem to care about how much America has bowed to the pressure of this group?
