Happy, Happy
Birthday!!
Our in‐house whi ler, Paul Smith shows off his art, which is amazing! He only whi les during his me at Sanibel Moorings, and never at home.
We had to ask how many Band‐Aids he goes through, his re‐sponse was that he had very li le feeling le in his fingers.
What a passionate, talented, me culous and pa ent man!
On Friday, March 2nd, Sanibel Moorings owners, guests and staff were treated to a performance on the beach headed up by long‐ me guest C.W. Mundy. This semi‐impromptu performance was a big hit and brought quite a crowd! Laura even joined in in the fun (although even a er some urging, she refused to get up and dance.) Oh what fun we have here at the beach!

“The Survey Says”
Well, not surprisingly the survey says a lot! In addi on to the obvious evalua on of the condi on of the main items in each room, the First Impression score relates a guest’s reac‐on to seeing your suite for the first me. This ra ng of the
overall impact and appeal of the unit represent 25% of the overall ra ng.
The ra ngs of the items in each room are averaged to ob‐tain a specific room ra ng. The categories that include sev‐eral items such as Accessories/ Ligh ng/Wall Hangings/Window Treatments are averaged together to come up with a combined ra ng. The notes provided in the comments por on will indicate those items that might be dragging the score down or needing a en on.
The ra ng for each room is then averaged to get to the unit survey ranking of the unit. This ranking represents 75% of the overall ra ng. The First Impression weighted percent‐age (25%) is added to the Unit Survey percentage (75%) to get to the final ra ng. This final number represents where the unit falls in the ra ng range to give it the Above Stand‐ard, Standard or Below Standard ra ng.
From a planning perspec ve, the scores can show you what upcoming expenditures you may face as Above Standard items become Standard; and Standard items become Below Standard by the me the next survey is done. A comparison by room will give you an indica on of where you might get the biggest ‘bang for your buck’ as it were. If you have a couple of 2 (Standard) or 3 (Below Standard) rated items in a par cular room, this tells you where your focus should be in upda ng the unit.
The ra ng of the unit is then entered into the Reserva on So ware and is part of the formula used to determine the frequency of rental for your unit. Assume for the moment a guest is looking for a 2bd/2ba Courtyard View unit for 7 days commencing August 15th. Of the 30 units available in the requested me frame there are 25 Above Standard rat‐ed units and 4 Standard rated units. The 25 Above Stand‐ard rated units are presented to the guest first; the Standard rated units are presented to the guest next and so on. Re‐member, guest preference overrides the unit ra ng and unit rota on system.

Guests Cindy Knipp and her daughter with the Junonia shell they found on March 19, 2012 on the beach in front of Sanibel Moorings. The Knipp family is from Baltimore, Maryland. Congrats ladies!
“It has never disappointed us over the years as we have returned some mes with the en re family of five or with friends or just three of us as on this trip. No ma er which unit we stayed in there were always posi ve aspects. I'm not going to repeat some of the excellent descrip ons that others have given which would be redundant. We started coming to Sanibel Moorings 27 years ago when my son was born. Currently, I am overlooking the ocean from my second floor screened in balcony. The grounds and flowers are all kept up immaculately. It feels like a tropical paradise with hibiscus flowers and palm trees. A er traveling to many foreign islands it is always a pleasure to have this special island in the U.S.A. with all of the ameni es of home. Our two bedroom unit has three televisions, a dvd player and a vcr. We called about a problem with one of the t.v.'s and 10 minutes later, an engineer came to repair it. Great service and efficiency. The decor is fresh and updated. Over the years Sanibel Moorings has made a con nuous effort to update and maintain the en re property including individual units. The two bathrooms are newly remod‐eled and large. Nothing can beat this wonderful beach steps from door. It stretches for miles and you can walk, shell or enjoy the scenery. There are no extra charges for things here as you find at many resorts. I would have preferred a larger pool but I can forgo that with all the other things there are to offer. Note: You need to provide your own beach towels or you can rent them in the office. You do need to set up your own beach chairs and umbrellas but they are provided free of charge. You need to exchange your towels daily for fresh ones.”
“Top resort and beach” Review from March 21, 2012
What our guests are saying….
WHAT IS IT? Well, it is NOT • a new type of smoke detector, nor
• a centrally monitored fire alarm, nor
• a radio controlled Frisbee, nor
• a new type of night light, nor
a very small flying saucer filled with ny li le aliens, de‐spite the fact that it gives off an eerie green glow!
By the way, the green glow is a good thing, any other col‐or or no glow at all indicates a problem.
And yes, you all have one, probably up high on the wall near the main entrance to your suite.
Well, in wireless world of telecommunica ons it is called a “hotspot” or an access point and it is part of the upgrade to our WiFi system men oned in the last newsle er. You will also no ce new antennae on the roofs of the build‐ings; it’s a very short mast with a small, white cone shaped dish. Together these along with a PC running some so ware give some much needed and vastly im‐proved range and reliability to our network.
So when you return to the Moorings, you should be able to enjoy reliable and uninterrupted wireless internet ac‐cess from anywhere on the property. Enjoy!

WHAT’S BLOOMIN’ IN PARADISE? Shaving-Brush Tree (Pseudobombax ellipticum)
Our super oversized tree is one of 20 spe-cies from the Pseudobombax genus which can reach a height of 35 feet. It is a non-native from South America and is loved for its grand size and unique luminous flowers. Even from a distance it will draws your eye. It is an attractive tree with a canopy that is wider than its height.
Light green and super smooth bark, it has a trunk that can get bulbous and swollen with maturity. Green until about one month before it flowers the large palmate shaped leaves fall to the ground. Small tan buttons form all over, growing slowly to cigar shaped buds. Guess what! These buds only open at night. Right before the flowers emerge, you can hear a popping noise! Flow-ers are profuse and noticeable all during the day. The flower pet-als are the casing, pre bloom they are soft and camel tan color.
The star of the blossom is the drop dead gorgeous shocking hot pink colored stamens that resemble filaments. If you shine a flashlight on them at night, their tips which begin crystallized and white, have a luminescence in the darkness. The long stamens are thread like thin, soft, and wave in the wind. As the day progresses, golden yellow pollen col-lects at the end of the stamens. Sweet honey liquid collects in the flower. This delicate nectar is how the tree polli-nates, by attracting birds, including hummingbirds to partake its sweet drink. As the birds drink, their tails dust the pol-len from the stamens. As they hop from flower to flower ,pollen is spread by shaking those tail feathers! Because our tree is so unique, we offer night time flower tours. Mrs. Bette Wellman, a local resident, is our authority and your guide for the Shaving Brush Tree. She welcomes you to join in her flower party in March and April, starting at 7:45 pm nightly at the east side of building 15. Bring your flashlights, chair and curiosity. Our star will give you ooh’s and aah’s as Bette guides you towards the next flower to pop! Listen for the pop then search with your flashlight for it looks like its glowing pink flower. Stunning at night, but just as mesmerizing during the day, come see this one of a kind blossom in our tropi-cal garden location. Don’t wanna miss this bloomer!
