April Meetings, Small Groups & Events
April 2017 Bermuda Hundred United Methodist Church
Girl Scout Sunday—March 19, 2017
The United Methodist Men meet every third Tuesday, at 6:30 pm, at River’s Bend Restaurant. Any change will be relayed via the church bulletin announcements. We are planning a Fish Fry for May 13th, and sponsored the April 1st Spaghetti Supper fundraiser for the Boy Scout storage shed. We will also be providing a Pancake Supper later in the year, since we were unable to have one on Shrove Tuesday this year. All men are members and are welcome to attend our meetings, and the first time you attend, I’ll buy your dinner. What a deal, eh? -Charles Woodard, BHUMC UMM President

United Methodist Women MAKE YOUR PLANS NOW TO ATTEND THE APRIL BERMUDA HUNDRED UMC 5TH SUNDAY PROGRAM AND LUNCHEON! Immediately after the service in the sanctuary, we will adjourn to the Fellowship Hall for a lunch prepared by the United Methodist Women and to hear our speaker, Laura Hancock from Dinwiddie who will be sharing with us highlights from her trip to Israel. Please make your plans now to attend this special event. Since this is United Methodist Women's Sunday, we will be honoring our Lifetime Members and I'm certain there will be other surprises at the luncheon. Please join us for fun, fellowship and to hear from Laura about her once in a lifetime experience in Israel.
HEALTH KITS FOR VIRGINIA ANNUAL CONFERENCE - this year the Bermuda Hundred UMW has committed to making 350 health kits for UMCOR to deliver to areas in the United States and around the world where they are the most needed. You have worked with us in the past to make these kits and we are asking for your assistance again this year. We would like to collect enough items to make at least 100 kits prior to Sunday April 30th so that we can put those kits together at the luncheon. This is a very important mission project for our chapter and we would love to have your hands and hearts work with us to make these kits possible. We need the following items and there will be a collection box outside the sanctuary (on the bench) for you to deposit your items:
1 hand towel (at least 15"x 25"), 1 washcloth, 1 comb (large & sturdy, not pocket/picks), 1 metal nail file or nail clipper, 1 bath size soap (3 oz. or larger), 1 toothbrush (adult size), 6 band-aids (3/4 x 1) and one gallon plastic bags with zip closures. IF YOU DON'T HAVE TIME TO SHOP BUT WANT TO HELP, WE WILL NEED CONTRIBUTIONS FOR TOOTHPASTE - $1.00 PER TUBE. Because of timing, storage and distance, we can't put toothpaste in our kits but rather have to leave that to UMCOR to purchase. We appreciate your help very much and will look forward to putting kits together with you on April 30th.
DON'T FORGET -- IT IS YARD SALE TIME! Mark your calendars for our first yard sale of the year scheduled for April 29th. We will be taking summer clothes for this yard sale plus all the treasures you would like to share with others. Please bring your items to the church Fellowship Hall between 10AM - 6:00PM on Friday, the 28th. Remember: no TVs. Clean out your closets and help us raise money for our many mission projects.
There is always an open invitation to women of the church to join us at our meetings or come work on our mission projects. We would love to have you in our UMW group. We do work hard, but we have a lot of fun and fellowship as we work. April is going to be a very busy month, so come join the fun.
Thank you for all your support and we'll see you in church,
Doris Morefield, UMW President

Earn. Save. Give. March 2017 – Continued Stewardship Success
BHUMC,
A small update this month on Stewardship and our progress towards fully funding 100% of our budget and apportionments for another year. We continue our outstanding streak of 16+ consecutive months of fully funding apportionments. Through March 2017 we are right on path to hit our goal for a 5th consecutive year, we are a quarter of the way there. Remain committed and consistent as we have always been and we will celebrate another great year of giving.
Please keep the consistency up – it is a great testament to God and all He has given to us that we continue to share.
Again, thank you for all the contributions in the past and for your future sharing.
Reminder – WE NEED YOU – if anyone is interested is joining the stewardship committee, please jump in – we would love to expand the team in 2017 (see/contact Dave Steinbraker to inquire about becoming part of the Steward-ship committee).
Thank you to all and in God’s Grace, Your stewardship committee, Dave Steinbraker, Dorothy Mooney, Ann McNinch, Charles Woodard and Bill Talley V
