Being self-employed while practicing self-isolation can be a challenge. If you’re a parent like Jerusha and me, you may be attempting to play the teacher role with all of the online work that is thrown your way. Trying to navigate that while figuring out how to sell virtually can be taxing. Most agents struggle initially with this transition to selling virtually due to the agent believing their true personality will not show, as well as the fear of the unknown. The good news is most agents learn to master the art of selling non face-to-face and prefer this method going forward. The key to getting through the adjustment period is to keep your PMA (Positive Mental Attitude) up, both personally and professionally.

Here are a few ways you can help keep your attitude positive:1. Review your goals and share them with the household.

Break your goals down to a daily to-do list, which will lead to daily victories, versus just another day. Make being positive a goal.

2. Remember, things could ALWAYS be worse. Make sure you appreciate what you have today, even if it's not exactly what you want.

3. Get into a routine. Before the week starts, organize your business and household schedules so everyone knows when you are available to help with family needs and when the family needs to be flexible to you not being available, even though you are home. Schedule in time for even the simple things like when to go to bed/wake up, exercise, self-help, and my favorite – eating ice cream.

4. Dress for success when you’re working. Assume you are going to have a face time meeting with a client. Be dressed and groomed for the occasion from the waist up. Make sure your home office is clean and organized. Put a mirror on your desk and make sure you see a smile on your face when you are making your calls.

5. Check on your clients, neighbors, as well as your friends. You will be surprised how many referrals you will receive because they understand how you earn a living and how important the work you do is. Think about it, the policies you have issued for your clients will be there to help your clients and their families even if the nurses, doctors, pharmacists, and lawyers cannot. That’s powerful!

With that power comes a fiduciary responsibility to virtually touch as many people as possible to let them know how you can help them prepare for the unexpected.

RYAN'S CHALLENGE:

“There is a little difference in people, but that little difference makes a big difference. The little difference is attitude. The big difference is whether it is positive or negative.” -W. Clement Stone

I challenge you for one week to start and finish the day with a positive comment to each person in your household and that includes yourself. summit | 32 | summit summit | 32 | summit

DIRECTOR'S CORNER

The New Face-to-Face

T he best agents in the industry inspire trust through their knowledge ability. In other

words, to be a great agent you must first have a strong, working knowledge of the insurance industry, your product offerings, the needs of your audience, and how to communicate all this information effectively.

-Stephen Hawking

Intelligence is the ability to adapt to change.

Remote selling has been around for years, and it’s only getting more popular. Where a few years ago, remote selling only accounted for 22% of total business, it now accounts for 35% of total business. So, what does that mean for you?

With the outbreak of COVID-19, more and more families are shutting their doors to us – fearing for the safety of their loved ones. While this poses a concern for our agents, COVID-19 is motivating those without insurance to buy. To meet the growing needs of our potential clients, we must adapt and change the way we do business.

I have been teaching remote selling and screen-sharing for six-and-a-half-years, and the importance of being fluent in remote selling is more important now than it’s ever been before. With social distancing expected to last a while, the only way for agents to meet the demand of those currently looking for insurance is meet them on their level – and that’s done with screen-sharing.

Screen-sharing allows agents to set a new standard in how we do business. It gives agents the ability to build trust with their clients by allowing them complete visibility into our presentations and processes, something phone sales are incapable of achieving.

Getting StartedIn order to be successful in remote selling, you first need to select a screen-sharing app. I personally recommend using Mikogo or Join.me, as both applications are easy to learn and use.

Once you have selected your software, I advise watching some tutorials on how to use the software and playing around a bit on it. When you feel comfortable enough with the platform, start making your move into remote-selling. Remember, practice makes perfect!

It’s important to note that remote selling is no different than what you’ve been doing for years. Think of it as a laptop presentation –only your audience is over the web. Go through your sales presentation the same way you would otherwise, and when they’re ready to pick a plan, transfer them over to the e-App over screen-share. It’s easy!

As we move forward in this uncertain time, it’s important we not only adapt to change, but learn how to thrive in it.

Hear what our new agents have to say about the UA experience! Remember, with UA you’re in business for yourself, not by yourself.

Ellen L. Good I had sold only a few Hi-F plans over the years and was never totally clear on how they worked. I had a lot of questions, and UA was very patient in answering all of them. UA made learning easy and simplified processes other carriers often made overly complex and overbearing. With an easy to understand and clear following of their product line, I contracted with UA. It quickly became the best decision I ever made.

With UA, I’ve been able to help clients at risk of losing their Hi-F plan with other providers. Since UA’s electronic application is very easy to use, I find myself saving time with clients. Plus, I love that the Reserve Fund Annuity application is integrated right into the app – UA just makes things easy. I look forward to selling more with UA!

Anthony ‘Tony’ FricanoI wrote one Medicare Supplement and two final expense plans with UA. My director of new agents helped answer all of my questions about UA products and product features. With UA, I have a clear understanding of what I’m selling, how to sell it, and how to be successful with them. Working with UA has been easy. I can’t wait to see where UA takes me, and I couldn’t be happier with my decision to work with them!

Helen HreenI joined UA because I was looking for something more. After 20 years in the business with another provider, I was desperate for change. Now, as a proud UA salesperson, I have never been happier! UA provides their agents with stability, security, and consistency – something which transfers over to their clients as well.

With UA, my days of prospecting are over and I work 100% from referrals. No more cold-calling! I get to meet clients who are already interested and in the office – which means no more long drives. UA has created a win-win situation for myself those I work for, and we couldn’t be happier.

1. LinkedIn

You know it and I know it: You’ve been meaning to do this for a while – you were just “waiting for the right time.” Well, now is the right time. LinkedIn provides agents an array of tools designed to help you connect with clients. Your posts will show up on their daily feeds, and you get the chance to connect with new potential clients while connecting with the old.

LinkedIn provides agents with the unique opportunity to connect with current and potential clients without the noise. That is to say, where telemarketers have made it near impossible to get a phone call through, and emails get drowned out in a sea of spam, LinkedIn messenger still retains its novelty. Send birthday wishes, congratulate others on work anniversaries and promotions – the opportunities are endless.

2. Talk to Your Clients… Over Video

We all know social distancing has thrown a real wrench in our ability to meet with clients – but that doesn’t mean we can’t reach out to them over video. With a majority of American employees working from home and have financial future as a top concern, now is a great time to reach out. Your expertise with helping protect financial futures may be a huge comfort to the general public right now. Tip: Be sure you have something significant to say – are they satisfied with their coverage? What has changed in their life since they’ve purchased that coverage? Is there a better fit?

3. Keep Up With Your Education

With so much going on, it’s easy to fall behind on your insurance education. Use this time to get familiar with concepts you may struggle with, maybe take a few marketing courses, or even sharpen your intellect for those particularly difficult to sell clients.

This may be a confusing time for our agents, but there lies opportunity in the greatest of adversities. Use this time wisely, adapt, and rise to the occasion.

With travel restrictions currently in place around the world, states under quarantine, and an increasing number of agents working from home, you may be wondering where that leaves you. After all, one of the most important parts of an agent’s job is prospecting. Thankfully, there is some good news. While traditional prospecting may be out of the question, there are other things agents can do during this troubling time to keep busy and maintain business. Read on to discover six ways agents like you can keep busy during this peculiar time in human history.

4. Rake In Those Certificates

You may have experience, but do you have the certifications to prove it? Some clients may only find comfort in your services if you have certain certifications – opening up new doors for you. Take this opportunity to research what certifications are available and relevant to you, and get started today.

5. Get Caught Up With Expense Accounts

Expense accounts don’t normally take priority in an agent’s day, making their way to the bottom of an agent’s priority list. Now is a great time to get caught up.

6. Get iGO eApp Certified!

Submit business electronically from your iPad, laptop, or PC. UA independent brokers can also use any available screen-sharing service, in conjunction with the iGO e-App, to assist customers when initiating the application process via the telephone (must be licensed and appointed in states where selling). The screen sharing program Mikogo offers UA appointed brokers a special offer for screen-sharing services.
