Principal’s Message, I would like say thanks to all stakeholders who are working hard to protect our way of life during this pandemic as we move for-ward in the final quarter of this school year. Our teachers are busy trying to switch to a new way to do their jobs and the learn-ing curve has been steep for us all (students included). Parent Note

Celebrate the month of April with fun learning activities April may bring showers—but it also brings learning opportunities. Here are some fun things you can plan to do with your child:

April 2 is International Children’s Book Day and Hans Christian An-dersen’s birthday. This day is de-signed to inspire a love of reading. Head to the library and grab some books!

April 13 is the birthday of Thomas

Jefferson. Go online to learn more about this president. Take a virtual tour of his home, Monticello, at explorer.monticello.org/virtualtour.

April 15 is income tax deadline day. Talk about the purpose of taxes. Practice calculating percentages with your child.

April 22 is Earth Day. As a family, think of something you can do to pro-tect the earth. Perhaps you could plant a tree or set up a recycling station at home.

April 23 is the day Shakespeare’s birthday is celebrated. Ask your child to write a scene for a play and act it out with friends or family.

April 26 is the birthday of John James Audubon, who is known for his drawings and paintings of North Amer-ican birds. Ask your child to draw pic-tures of the birds she sees.

April 30 is International Jazz Day. Find a radio station that plays jazz and listen to it with your child. Then each of you can describe how the music makes you feel.

Recognize emotional mile-stones your middle schooler will face Middle schoolers are still reaching milestones. And staying aware of them will help you support your child.

Along with the physical changes of puberty, your middle schooler may be dealing with:

A need for independence. The preteen years are prime time for this particular phase. Expect your child to separate a bit from you as she begins figuring out who she is. She may be less likely to admit it right now, but your child still needs your attention, love and support.

A desire to feel respected. Your middle schooler may bristle at being “treated like a little kid.” Honor her need to feel more grown up. Give her significant responsibilities and allow her to make some decisions on her own, such as when to do her home-work. She will also have a greater need for privacy. Knock before entering her room.

Waves of self-doubt. Along with more maturity, the preteen years can bring a great deal of insecuri-ty. Help your middle schooler weather episodes of self-doubt by praising her successes and catch-ing her when she stumbles.

Teach your teen ‘mind mapping’ to help with comprehension Minds work a lot like websites. From one main idea, our thoughts tend to branch off to other related ideas. Those are linked to still more ideas.

A great way for your teen to learn something new is to create a link to something he already knows. Creat-ing a mind map is a helpful tech-nique. Mind mapping is a creative and logical way of note-taking that literally “maps out” your teen’s ide-as.

Before he starts learning a new sub-ject, have your teen:

1. Write the main word or phrase of that subject in the center of a piece of paper. Have him circle it.

2. Write any related words or phrases he can think of around the circled word. He can use overlapping circles or arrows to connect items. Encourage your teen to work quickly. The goal is to get as many ideas down on paper as possible.

3. Edit the map. He might move some items near related ideas or use color to help organize con-cepts. As your teen begins reading about the subject, he should add new information to his map, working outward. As the map expands, the details he adds should be more specific.

When the map is finished, your teen will have a personal map that puts what he just learned into the context of what he al-ready knew.

WOW! Who would have thought that we might be finishing the school year digitally. Certainly not me. Wishing you and your family good health during this time of uncertainty.

Just wanted to share some good news from our winter seasons. We had four basketball players voted onto the All-Conference teams. On the boys team is Aidan Searfoss and for the girls we have Liz Lun-gren, Lindsey Holiday and Bryley Moore. Bryley also received an All-State recognition. Her name has al-so been put into the hat to be considered for playing in the North - South All - Star game in July. Con-gratulations Pioneers and good luck Bryley. One other recognition was given to Coach Novak as the Con-ference Coach of the Year.

With so much unknown about when or if we might be back in school, the Wyoming High School Activities Association is on hold as well for spring sports. If we do get back to school, we will commense our track seasons. We will still have to abide by the 9 practice rule. With this said, we will have a very short sea-son and we would encourage all athletes to to start building a foundation on your conditioning.

Again thank you for your support throughout our seasons and we hope to see you this spring.

Time Out from the AD

Congratulations Coach Novak, Aidan, Lindsey, Liz, and Bryley!

We Got This Each person plays an im-portant role in the fight against the Coronavirus, COVID-19. Over the last few weeks many families, parents, and students have had to make great sacrifices in the fight against the “invisible enemy.” Social distancing, quarantine and isolation, are just a few phrases we have come to know all too well in just a short time. These terms along with the many cancel-lations of activities may seem limiting, but as each family and individual chooses to do their part, a team of superheroes is formed! Su-perheroes spreading health and safety around the world, working together and help-ing to stop this virus! Please continue to choose to do these five simple things and gain power from your choice
