He will be working alongside me on Monday, May 13 for one transition day. I would like each of you to know that my time in the community of St. Kateri Tekakwitha School has been an absolute blessing. Just so you know…. the reputation of this school and community proceeds itself. When I was assigned to SKT the reaction of those I would tell was consistently, “Oh that’s a gem of a place!” And today I would say the same. The staff, the parents, the students, the community…such a pleasure! And so, from the bottom of my heart I want to say, “Thank You to every one of you.” Thank you to this beautiful, kind and caring, hardworking, invested and committed staff. Thank you to the wonderful parents for sharing your time, your children, your commitment to education. And thanks to the children, for your loving, goodness, your joy and enthusiasm! After 42 years in education and 33 years in administration I am ready to move on to another phase in life. Please realize that the decision has been complicated by the loss that I will feel as I leave the community of St Kateri Tekakwitha. I want you all to know SKT has been a wonderful experience and that I am particularly proud of the way the community has rallied to raise money for a new playground for the children. We’ve really only known we would lose the playground for 17 months now. When we got the news, we set to work together in earnest with a target of a modest playground. With the roll up our sleeves attitude and determined support of the community we are happy to suggest that we likely will have the funds in place to build a beautiful, “not-modest’ playground for the children and the community, by November 2019. However, since November is not construction weather in Calgary, we likely will have to wait until May 2020 for the actual construction. Well, once again, dear community, it has been a pleasure to know and serve you! Your kindness, your determination and resilience, and your energy will sustain me, perhaps all of us, far into the future. Of course, I will have one more opportunity to speak with you in the May newsletter. Until then, and in all the days between, I wish you peace and joy! Sincerely, J.B. just stayed the course at home. Mostly, I hope you were able to enjoy your children and any time you

were able to chisel out to be with family. Our next opportunity is Easter when we have Good Friday

Three Important Pieces of Information you will want to know.

1. I will be off once again on May 14 for a third shoulder surgery. Unfortunate but necessary.

2. This is the year that I will retire from my position as a principal in Calgary Catholic.

3. The incoming principal is Mr. Sandy Solyom. Mr. Solyom begins his official assignment as

Principal of St. Kateri Tekakwitha on the day of my surgery, May 14. He will be working

alongside me on Monday, May 13 for one transition day.

I would like each of you to know that my time in the community of St. Kateri Tekakwitha School has

We Learn “Compliments” in PATHS

Did you know…….There are Four Kinds of

Compliments?

How you Look – Complement someone on

their appearance…

You look nice today, I like your new haircut.

What you Have – Possessions

I really like your new outfit. You always look

so nice.

Things you Do – Skills

You are an amazing artist….I like the picture

you drew!

How you Act – Quality of Character

I noticed how nicely you spoke to your sister

when she was feeling sad.

You are a good sister and a good person!

PATHS In “PATHS”, Students are learning “Executive

Functioning Skills”. These are skills that help us to

be independent and successful in life.

We also develop our Social Emotional Learning. How

do we interact with others? How do we engage in

the “Give and Take” of conversation?

And the sharing of Responsibilities and Resources.

Champions at St Kateri Tekakwitha

As parents all know, the Champions Program is a significant component of

Programing in all Calgary Catholic Schools. Every student has an adult with

whom they identify and can confide in. Our most recent Champions

Activity had students and Family groups created a purple chain on the

themes of lent. Each student reflected on her/his own Lenten purpose and

then recorded a thought on a purple strip. The strips are all linked

together to form a large connected chain. See chain links in our showcase

and at our next Liturgy. Additionally, students created booklets on the

Stations of the cross. These two will be shared at our next liturgy.

How you look – Compliment someone on their appearance…

How you Act—Quality of Character
