OneHope in China!

Long-anticipated announcement:

This year, our goal is to touch the lives of 1.25 million Chinese young people with the Gospel. It is an amazing breakthrough and an answer to prayer!

It’s so hard to keep a secret! And for years, we couldn’t tell you about this one.

God has been opening doors to China, and we’ve been working “behind the scenes” to get our Scripture engagement resources approved for publication and distribution.

Right now, we have several editions of the Book of Hope, plus the Chinese version of The GodMan film, approved and ready for use by our partners in China, Christian leaders who share our vision!

In 2011, our partners in China plan to reach 1,250,000 young people with God’s Word through the Book of Hope and The GodMan film.

This represents only a fraction of China’s population of

1.3 billion, but it’s a dramatic starting point for our first large-scale outreach in China — and our partners are already boldly requesting more materials to reach the young people.

Throughout Mexico and Colombia, children relate to the film and have been transformed by its message of hope in Jesus Christ.

“I thought the violence in my home was my fault,” confessed a 14-year-old Colombian boy.

“But after seeing this movie, I understood God also remembers young people in my situation; now I long to share with my parents the forgiveness given to me by Jesus Christ.”

The research made it clear. Latin American boys and girls were being devastated by domestic violence, alcoholism and drugs.

How could we reach them, caught as they were, in the deadly crossfire?

God answered by providing a unique ministry partner: Toy Gun Films.

These innovators took the research, discovered an amazing true story of how God’s Word made a dramatic difference in those very bleak circumstances, and created a short film that speaks directly to the hearts of impoverished children in Latin America.

En Tus Manos, which is “In Your Hands” in English, tells

the story of a young man whose alcoholic father creates chaos in the home, driving the boy toward gang life and drugs — but who instead discovers the love of Jesus Christ and chooses to live for Him.

By God’s grace, this hard-hitting film has now been seen by 1.4 million young people in northern Mexico, making it the most-watched film in the country. In addition, some 600,000 young people have seen it in Colombia, where 7,000 partner churches have embraced the film.

Our partners use the film in

conjunction with Book of Hope distributions, and it speaks in powerful ways, even to children, as young as 9 years old, who are already being recruited by gangs as “mules” to deliver drugs.

“I cried the entire time I was watching En Tus Manos,” one Colombian pastor said. “I was feeling the pain of the youth in my community and the urgency to minister to them immediately because sometimes they think they don’t have hope. But we know that they do. This film is an opportunity to share the Gospel with them.”

“We see the seeds of a movement inherent in what we’re doing with En Tus Manos,” says OneHope Latin America Regional Director Ricardo Luna. “These children can relate to the violence in the film, and there is evidence that God is moving on their hearts and lives.”

Latin America ... in God’s Hands

En Tus Manos speaks directly to the critical issues of domestic violence, gangs and drugs in Latin America.

GGet ready for all the information we can’t give you!

Whether it’s in an Arabic nation where Islamic persecution threatens, or in a communist nation where government restrictions forbid it, or in some other area where social, political or religious barriers try to block the Gospel message —

Your OneHope team is there, partnering with local believers to reach the next generation with God’s Word!

We just can’t tell you the details, locations, or partnerships ... in order to protect the children and youth, to protect the local believers, and to protect the work as the salvation story is shared.

But, we can describe the programs in general, and we do need your prayers.

So here’s a brief rundown of some programs and outreaches slated for sensitive areas this year. Please pray as God brings them to mind.

Book of Hope distributions and showings of The GodMan film. YES! In some politically or religiously sensitive areas, our partners still have the legal right to distribute God’s Word ... it may be dangerous for them; there may be “anti-conversion” laws to contend with ... but they are getting the Gospel story to the children and youth.

Holiday outreaches. In some sensitive areas, minority Christians are able to celebrate Christmas and Easter, and in fact, their non-Christian neighbors may expect these celebrations, many even expect to be invited. Some church partners use these holiday events to speak particularly to children and their families, showing them the facts surrounding the birth of Christ, the Resurrection, etc.

Hope for Kids and Kids’ Evangelism Explosion. Some of our boldest witnesses to the next generation are Christian children and youth. Kids’ EE trains young believers to share their faith through the Hope for Kids program, and other young people are being transformed. Please keep these Christian children, and their friends, in your prayers.

Sports camps and events. Our partners receive special training to present sports camps and special events which attract children and youth in any nation. Through the games and recreation, the Gospel message is presented to the next generation, and the young people are invited to a local church to learn more.

These are only a few of the outreaches in sensitive areas. Recently in one majority Muslim nation, a boy named Fajar attended a two-day event that included showings of The GodMan film and Book of Hope distribution.

Fajar chose to follow Christ and now is faithfully attending his local church. The believers there are praying with him for his entire family to come to know the Lord!

There are no barriers to the power of God’s Word and the leading of the Holy Spirit. Thank you for being a part of reaching out to the sensitive areas of the world!

TBreakthrough: Liberia

Finally the door is open to reach the children of Liberia!

www.onehope.net

April / May 2011 | 5

The light of the Gospel is desperately needed in this darkness.

The needs are deep.Liberia’s next generation

suffered as war swept across the nation. Horrible atrocities were committed on women, children, everyone ... families were decimated and bodies were mutilated.

Today, half the children live in single parent households. Half spend less than 15 minutes a week in conversation with their fathers about anything meaningful. Sixty percent are dissatisfied with their lives.

While humanitarian aid was desperately needed, the demand for spiritual and emotional healing was even greater.

And now, thank God, the door has opened for you to take the Gospel message, a message of hope and transformation, to the children and youth of Liberia!

Last month three new programs were launched:· School distribution with local

church partners personally presenting testimonies and the Book of Hope.

· The GodMan film presented on the streets by local churches for those children who don’t

go to school (about 60% of Liberia’s children!).

· Discipleship course training children in how to share their faith, using OneHope

Scripture tools.

“Africa has a culture of orality, and it comes naturally to us to tell stories,” says Regional Director Sylvanus Elorm. “Now children are becoming the

story-tellers, and they can explain the Gospel to their peers in every village, on every street corner.”

The light of the Gospel is so desperately needed. Please pray for these programs and especially for Liberia’s next generation to come to faith in Christ and rebuild their nation based on His Word. Thank you!

faith in ChristThe neighbors said her mother

was cursed.Any illness is considered a

curse in their traditional religion, and Selani’s mother had a terrible illness — a brain tumor.

Selani was only 13. She didn’t understand why her mother would be cursed, but she wanted her to be well and strong again.

They live in the “Hindu Belt” of India, in one of the states known for its radical extremists.

But, by God’s grace, a faithful church partner of OneHope’s is reaching out to children there, and they showed The GodMan film to Selani and her friends. Selani was delighted to see the power of Christ over demons, and over

sickness, too!She gave her life to Christ and

began praying for her mother’s healing. While today mom is still undergoing treatment for the tumor, something else has happened in their family life ...

Selani led her whole family to faith in Christ!

Thank you for bringing the hope of eternity to Selani, her parents, and her siblings. This year in India, you’ll help present the Gospel to 20.4 million more like her!

A personAl word from

Founder Bob HoskinsandPresident Rob Hoskins

Dear Friend,

Rejoice with us over what God has done, and is doing!

This Global Report is packed with great news from around the world, and

we’re praising God for all of it ... but one issue in particular has been a long-time

coming and is a real, miraculous answer to prayer: the new open door to China!

Thank you so much for your prayers and for your faithful generosity. We know

your prayers made a difference in China — because we had been told it would be

impossible to ever produce Scripture engagement tools in this communist nation.

But you didn’t give up, and God, in His timing, has moved.

Please continue to pray. We’re starting our first major outreach in China, in

cooperation with local churches and pastors who share our vision and are so

anxious to begin reaching the next generation ... but frankly, they’re already

asking for more resources, more Scripture tools, to speak to the desperate need

for God’s Word among the next generation — a generation they are afraid of

losing to materialism and secularism.

Your prayers for China, and for children and youth all over the world, will

continue to make an important impact. May God bless you for your compassion

and commitment.

The witch doctor was supposed to give him a charm to make him smart.

A boy named Adamou in the African nation of Togo was living on the streets, estranged from his mom, mad at the world — everything had gone wrong. He knew it was wrong to lie and steal, but he’d done it anyway, and now everyone was bitter toward him.

But he had a plan: he would get a fetish from the witch doctor that would make him the most brilliant student in school! Then his mother would be proud of him, and he would have plenty of friends ...

... only the fetish didn’t work. He continued to fail in school.

There was nothing left for him. He decided to kill himself.

He was at school, planning his exit from life, when a team came from the local church with a film to show the children, The GodMan, and a gift for each student, the Book of Hope.

Adamou was amazed to see how Jesus had sacrificed His own life to save others from their sins ... and Adamou knew he needed that salvation. He chose to dedicate his life to Christ and find

redemption and forgiveness.Since that day, he has been

filled with joy! He reunited with his family. His mother was amazed at the transformation in her son. He began sharing the story of Jesus with her and his siblings

from his Book of Hope.

“From that day until now, we are living in a wonderful blessing, peace, and joy and the grace of God” Adamou says. His entire family has chosen to follow Jesus and they’re worshiping

together in the local church.“I invite everybody to give

his life to Jesus Christ, who is the solution to everything,” Adamou says.

Thank you for being there with the life-saving, destiny-changing Word of God for a child in desperate need.

OneHope, founded in 1987 by missionary Bob Hoskins, and directed by Assemblies of God missionary Rob Hoskins, is reaching the world’s children and youth with Scripture that speaks directly to their lives and culture. Through OneHope, in collaboration with churches and ministries — and working with local governments, schools and non-governmental organizations — a message of hope has been given personally to over 714 million children and young people in 125 countries through its Book of Hope publications, The GodMan animated film, and other Scripture engagement tools. Using outcome-based research, OneHope continues to innovate its ministry model and offers its expertise and resources to other child-focused organizations.
