Paint Barrel Racing Incentive Program Provides Expanded Opportunities for APHA Horses and Members

The American Paint Horse Association is proud to support the creation of the Paint Barrel Racing Incentive Program. Initiated by a group of APHA members, the PBRIP is designed to increase opportunities and purse money for participants who breed, promote and run American Paint Horses in barrel racing events.

Central to the PBRIP program is the opportunity to offer APHA dual-approved barrel races at existing barrel racing events with greater ease. Through PBRIP, the association no longer requires the use of APHA judges, offers greater flexibility in pattern size and offers exclusive PBRIP side jackpots for Paint barrel horses at dual-approved events.

“APHA recognizes the number of outstanding Paint barrel horses competing outside of APHA-approved shows,” APHA Executive Director Billy Smith said. “Through the PBRIP, we hope to reinvigorate these exhibitors’ commitment to APHA, provide more opportunities for World Show qualification at existing barrel races, and provide valuable incentives for exhibitors excelling aboard American Paint Horses.”

Designed by members for members, the PBRIP is the brainchild of a group of horsemen committed to supporting Paint Horses and APHA members in the barrel racing industry. Founding members include Melanie Bearden, Shannon McCartney, Lisa Mullinax and Pancho Villarreal.

Guidelines for PBRIP participation for competitors include:

    - Open to Regular Registry and Solid Paint-Bred horses, but they must meet APHA stakes-eligibility racing rules (RA.000.D. in the 2013–2014 Official APHA Rule Book).

    - Competitor must be PBRIP-enrolled and a current APHA member in good standing.

PBRIP enrollment fees will be used to fund added-money side pots at selected barrel races, as well as for program administration and promotion. Watch the Paint racing website [link: racing.apha.com/barrelracers] for more details and forms.

Any speed event is eligible for APHA dual-approval by submitting an APHA Special Event Application. In addition, these events are also eligible for PBRIP endorsement. Guidelines for organizations to host dual-approved PBRIP events include:

    - Organization submits an APHA special event application and $25 fee to APHA

    - Organization agrees to offer a PBRIP side pot for exhibitors who meet PBRIP criteria, verifying APHA registration and membership.

    - Organization agrees to send $10 per PBRIP entry to APHA—funds are reserved for jackpots at the APHA World Championship Shows and help cover program administration.

In addition to dual-approved events and side-pot money, PBRIP also hosts an annual stallion service auction. The inaugural PBRIP Stallion Service Auction takes place through March 31 atHorseAuctionsLive.com [link: http://www.horseauctionslive.com/2013-Paint-Barrel-Racing-Incentive-Program_as26740].

PBRIP also plans to create a subscription program for stallion and their offspring, beginning in 2015. Funds collected from both endeavors will go toward PBRIP side pots, administration and promotion.

“APHA is excited to partner with the PBRIP program to help showcase these colorful athletes while providing yet another benef it of APHA membership and registration,” Smith said.

Hart Trailer, LLC and American Paint Horse Association Renew Partnership to Benefit Members

The American Paint Horse Association is pleased to announce Hart Trailer, LLC, recently renewed their long-standing partnership as the Official Trailer of APHA. As a result of the agreement, Hart will now award two lucky APHA members one-year’s use of a custom gooseneck trailer. One-year use of a custom, three-horse gooseneck trailer will be awarded to the No. 1 Amateur competitor overall for the 2013 show year based on highest number of points earned in the Novice, Classic and Masters Amateur divisions as well as the All-Around Open Horse at the APHA World Championship Show November 6-16, 2013.

The APHA World Championship Show is the second of two world showcase events held annually by the Fort Worth-based equine organization that is dedicated to competition for Amateur and Open competitors in a full range of disciplines in more than 240 classes.

APHA Executive Director Billy Smith compared APHA’s relationship with Hart to its trailers—custom and built to last.

“The longevity of the partnership speaks for itself,” he said. “We have many exciting opportunities in store this year for APHA members as well as the two trailer winners, including a multitude of promotion through APHA and Hart’s social media outlets.” Hart Director of Sales and Marketing Randy Stamper agreed.

“We’ve been a faithful sponsor of APHA for 16 years,” Randy said. “We really like what we’ve seen from the association over the past year and are very excited to extend the partnership and continue bringing APHA members one-of-a-kind trailers for their one-of-a-kind horses.”

Beginning this year at the AjPHA Youth World Championship Show, Hart will award two new scholarships to deserving youth.

A $500 scholarship will be awarded to the Superior Sportsmanship Award winner. Good sportsmanship is an important life skill and APHA will be on the hunt for those who exemplify it. Five anonymous judges around the show will decide who receives the award. Exhibitors will have the opportunity to nominate their peers in the show office, and their votes will be tallied and factored into the judges’ decision.

An additional $500 scholarship will be awarded to the winner of a special drawing of World Show Boot Camp participants. At Boot Camp—also open to ApHC exhibitors—professional trainers volunteer a full day before the show to help new competitors perfect their pattern work.

Hart will again sponsor the annual AjPHA World Championship Youth Judging Contest—set to take place June 30—where two $500 scholarships will be awarded to the top junior and senior high-point individuals. Visit ajpha.com from more information.

American Paint Horse Association and Cowboy Mounted Shooting Association Announce Exciting Opportunities for Paint Horses

The American Paint Horse Association and the Cowboy Mounted Shooting Association have partnered to provide a host of new achievement opportunities for American Paint Horses. Beginning in April, Paints competing at select CMSA events can earn double recognition, winning prizes and accolades from both associations.

An increasingly popular equine event, cowboy mounted shooting is a fast-action, timed event over specific courses with a high degree of speed and agility from the horse and skilled shooting from the rider.

“It’s hard to find anything more fun than shooting and riding your Paint Horse fast,” APHA Executive Director Billy Smith said. “This is a great opportunity for fans of speed, fun and Paint Horses.”

“Valued for their athleticism, versatility and flashy markings, Paint Horses are a natural and popular choice for CMSA participants,” APHA Senior Director of Shows Holly Slaughter said. “We’re thrilled to offer APHA points and recognition in this exciting sport.”

Paint Horses who compete at the CMSA Jeffers National Championship in Tunica, Mississippi, April 16–20, are eligible to earn APHA recognition in Youth, Classic Amateur, Masters Amateur and Open divisions. Points will be determined by APHA regulation. The Paint Horse portion will be a divisional gender split payback with a 70% payout.

“We’re excited to welcome APHA members and their Paints to Tunica,” CMSA Executive Director Andee Lamoreaux said. “To be eligible for APHA recognition, competitors must bring their horse’s registration papers and their current APHA membership card to the show office.”

Additional dual-approval for Paints will be offered at the 2013 CMSA Championship Series Events: CMSA Stephenville Trailer Central US Championships in Guthrie, Oklahoma, June 4-8; CMSA Scully Western US Championships in Las Vegas July 31–August 3; ; CMSA Classic Equine Eastern US Championships in Murfreesboro, Tennessee, September 3-7; and the CMSA Tony Lama World Championships in Amarillo, Texas, October 15-19.

Paint Horses competing at these CMSA events are eligible to earn APHA Registers of Merit, Superior Event titles, APHA Champion titles, Performance Versatility awards, and Honor Roll awards. Learn more about APHA’s recognition of mounted shooting in the 2013 Official APHA Rule Book, available at apha.com/forms/rulebook.

    General membership meeting

    March 9th

    2013 700 pm

    Treasurers report –

We are still looking for volunteers for the summer BBQ.

Show report: staff and facility is secured.

One issue that has been brought up is regarding the shavings. The facility will not let us use the

shavings shed and have loose shavings. Brian Lust is bringing shavings on Thursday for delivery and

able to sell them for $5.25 a bag for our cost. The issue is that we have no storage for the bags

throughout the show. 400 bags is the estimated amount needed and we do not have anyone to

stay with the bags for the show and are looking for volunteers.

Barn Party Saturday night! A potluck is going to be held and need volunteers to organize and set up.

Both club’s are responsible for bringing dishes for the potluck. Posting of dishes being brought can

be uploaded on our clubs Facebook prior to the show so there won’t be too much doubling of

    dishes.

o Raffle for party: need donations for door prizes and raffle items. If anyone has any items

please email or call Lori Nevin

Trail – there a still issues with trail regarding the patterns that were made. The side-pass is drawn

confusing and cannot be both directions for the yearlings. The yearling jog through for in hand

would be impossible for the measurements shown. Some modifications need to be made for final

patterns. The location of trail is to be determined at the show, weather permitting.

Marian is once again having her yard sale and is aiming for the end of June.

Nominations were made and passed for two new board members for those two who couldn’t finish the term.

Janelle and Angela have stepped in.

Next meeting will be held in Arlington on April 6th
