Hamilton Sheepvention Bus Trip

Date: Monday 6 August 2018 Times: Depart 8.30am from Flagstaff Hill Car Park and return by 4pm Cost: $38 or discounted price of $17.10 (eligibility enquires at time of book-ing). Seniors Citizens members discounted fee $30 ($8 paid by seniors club). The cost includes entry to Sheepvention plus $15 meal voucher

Meet at the Flagstaff Hill Car Park and travel by bus to the Penshurst Gardens for morning tea. Travel on to Hamilton Sheepvention where you are free to wan-der and enjoy any of the following: Ram Sale, Sheep Show, Victorian Farm Dog Competitions, Inventions Competi-tions and the much loved Wool Fashion Parade.

Please note: This trip involves extensive walking

and good mobility. Numbers are limited, so bookings

Naidoc Week Gathering at Archie

The theme of Naidoc Week 2018 recognised the role of Indigenous Women in Australia, which for too often has been invisible, unsung or diminished.

Over 120 people attended the Gathering at Archie where

Lee Morgan performed the Welcome to Country and the

Warrnambool College Kalay Academy Dancers performed a

Welcome Dance.

Bernice Clarke shared some of her stories in conversation

with Toni Jenkins. Bernice told us about the values of her

parents, Banjo and Audrey Clarke and the fun she had with

her siblings and friends growing up at Framlingham. She

spoke about some of the tough times in her life, but focussed more on the role

she has played in representing indigenous people in support of early years edu-

cation, indigenous health and advocacy for indigenous services and rights. Ber-

nice finished with her wish for the future; that as Australians, let’s walk for-

ward together in harmony. Thank you Bernice for your generosity today and

throughout your life and many thanks to all who attended this event.

SW TAFE VCAL PROJECT

Archie now has a more beautiful courtyard to

enjoy, thanks to SW TAFE Foundation VCAL stu-

dents. Teacher, Rod Symons guided students from

proposal stage to planning, design, budgeting and

finally the hands-on labour.

Thanks to John Sheely, Botanical Gardens Cura-

tor who advised the students about plant selection

and the Warrnambool City Council Outdoor Team

for their technical assistance. We look forward to

taking advantage of this outdoor area as the weather improves.

TEMPORARY CHANGE IN ROAD TRAFFIC & BUS STOP

This partial closure and bus stop relocation will begin on Saturday the 14th of July and remain in place for approximately three weeks. East bound traffic will U-Turn in front of the Lighthouse Theatre while west bound traffic will access through the roundabout on Timor Street. The Archie Graham bus stop will be relocated across the road in front of Tenpin Bowling in Timor Street. The Pedestrian Crossing will also be upgraded during this time, so Traffic Controllers will be directing traffic on the west bound section in front of Archie Graham.

First they killed my Father is a 2017 Cambodian–American Khmer biographical historical thriller film directed by Ange-lina Jolie and written by Jolie and Loung Ung, based on Ung's memoir of the same name. Loung Ung is 5 years old when the Khmer Rouge assumes power over Cambodia in 1975. They soon begin a four-year reign of terror and genocide in which nearly 2 million Cambodians die. Forced from her family's home in Phnom Penh, Ung is trained as a child soldier while her six siblings are sent to labor camps.

Gil Pender (Owen Wilson) is a screenwriter and aspiring novelist. Vacationing in Paris with his fiancee (Rachel McAdams), he has taken to touring the city alone. Forum: Ready to talk?

Talking about death and planning for end of life can be tough at the start, however it can be enormously beneficial.

The Ready to Talk Forum will include:

- The launch of the National Compassionate Com-munities Forum Groundbreaker Project - Release of the latest version of the Dr Eric Fair-bank’s book: Living and Dying in Style Manual in-cluding the updated information on Advance Care Planning.

- Melissa Couch, Advance Care Planning Officer with South West Healthcare will be there to answer your questions on Advance Care .

End of Life Preparations Workshop

Over the course of two hours learn about advanced care planning, powers of attorney and wills. Be in-

spired to complete an end of care plan, a life review, a death plan and funeral plan. Facilitated by Dr Eric

Fairbank.

Troubleshoot Your Smartphone or Tablet

Kings College Duke of Ed students will be available on Monday afternoons

during school terms, from 2.00pm to assist you with your Smartphone and

or Tablet enquiries. Bring your device, along with a list of your curliest ques-

tions and the students will do their best to answer them for you.

Our regular daily computer classes are offered and times are listed in the

timetable that can be located on page five of this newsletter. Computer class

size is limited to four per session so please ring reception to secure your spot

The Seniors Citizens Club has introduced a new program for members; Tai Chi at 10am on Mondays prior to the Gentle Chair-based Exercise Class at 11am.

HOME SUPPORT INFO & SOMETHING NEW

It’s Camp Time!!

A new opportunity at the Archie Graham Community Centre Warrnambool City Council has received funding from the Victorian Government to trial a Camp for

adults with care needs who otherwise may not get an opportunity to be involved/attend such an activity.

Initial consultations have identified the Surf Coast region as a possible destination for the Camp, which is to be held during October 2018.

We need your help though - we want to make sure that those who wish to participate in the Camp have input into the planning and design.

So come along on Friday August 10th at 11am at the Archie Graham Community Centre to have your say and help us plan this new and exciting activity.
