Sir William Emerson was credited for drafting his plan of Victoria Memorial on the tradition of

the Italian renaissance architecture and Lord Curzon wanted the memorial should be of white

marble. There is a gaping resemblance of Victoria Memorial with the Ta Mahal in its form with

a great dome! high portals! four subsidiar" octagonal domed chattris! the domed corner towers

and the terrace. It is stri#ing to note that this massi$e building is a collage of $arious st"les

ha$ing Italian%st"le statues along with Mughal domes. This combination of European st"le and

the Indo%Islamic st"le has created a distinct identit". The uni&ueness of Victoria Memorial lies
