Introduction

Handling Unit Management (HUM) is to reflect packing-based logisticsstructures in the SAP System. Using this method, you can track themovements of entire handling units and the materials they contain rather thantracking each material individually.

If a business has a requirement to archive handling units that are no longeractive in the system. Here, non-assigned handling units as well as handlingunits assigned to a document are taken into consideration.

Handling units can only be archived if the documents assigned to them have

already been archived.

It is not recommended to archive dependent documents as it may resultinconsistencies if you do so.

But as an exception, if the handling unit has the"Goods issue posted or"Deleted" status, it can be archived regardless of the archiving status of the

dependent documents. We have to delete the HU first and then archive the HUfrom the system so the HU details will write to an archive file.

Please see the below process that you can follow in archiving a HU bychanging the status to Deleted" i.e. movement status 0060.

Check the achievability of a Handling Unit

1. Go to transaction code - SE38Enter the program - RHU_AR_ARCHIVABILITY_CHECK and Execute.

1. Enter the HU number; tick the 2 check boxes to see the detailed informationand Execute.

2. You can check the HU status and identify the dependant document from theVEKP table as well.

Go to transaction code - SE11, enter the table name VEKP.Check the value of the field STATUS

Table entry will show the current Movement status. For an example screen HUnumber 1000000738 has the Movement status 0020 - . So, we need to change thestatus of this HU to 0060 in order to archive it.

Change the Movement status of a HU

1. Go to the t code - HUMOEnter the HU number that you need to delete and execute so it will take you to the

next screen.

2. Select the line and press Delete button. So, it will delete the HU and willchange the Movement Status to 0060.

3. Click Yes and continue deletion. You will get a message

confirming that HU got deleted.

4. You can check the new status in SE11 Table: VEKP-STATUS. New status of HU65000000000000240526 is 60, i.e. Deleted. So, now you can archive this HUfrom the system.

Archive a Handling Unit.

You can archive the HU with delete status by the standard programRHU_AR_WRITE_TO_ARCHIVE.

1. Go to the transaction code SE38 and enter the program name

RHU_AR_WRITE_TO_ARCHIVE

2. Enter the HU number or numbers that you need to archive.Tick the check box Create Archive under Control Data and Executive.

3. This will write the archived HU to a file. Below is details of the archived file.

Read the Archived File for particular HU

Run the program RHU_AR_READ_FROM_ARCHIVE to see the archived file.

1. Go to the transaction code SE38 and enter the program nameRHU_AR_WRITE_TO_ARCHIVE

2. Enter the Archived HUnumber or numbers.

Structure

When you use the archiving object LE_HU, the system archives data from thefollowing tables:

Table Table Name

VEKP Handling unit header table

VEPO Packing: handling unit item (contents)

VEVW Where-used list for handling units

NAST Output status

HUSSTAT Single status handling units

HUSTOBJ Information on handling unit status object

HUMSEG Reference HU item for last posted material document item

In addition, the following archiving classes are included.

Archiving class CHANGEDOCU for archiving change documents Archiving class PM_OBJLIST for archiving serial numbers

Reloading Handling Units

For emergency cases, for example, if you archived handling units by mistake, you can

use the program RHU_AR_RELOAD_ARCHIVE to reload to the database handling unitsthat were already archived and deleted. Only use this function in emergency casesand, before you use it, make sure you observe the notes in the online documentationof the reload program.

During reload, any existing hierarchical dependency of the handling units is taken intoconsideration, that is, the system will only reload complete groups of dependenthandling units.

Calling Up Archiving

To call up the archiving function for handling units, select the following path from theSAP menu.

Tools Administration Administration Archiving . This calls up archiveadministration, and then you enter the archiving object LE_HU.
