Important COVID-19 Updates for July 31, 2020 Dear Community, Thank you for sharing your pandemic experiences with our office, as we diligently work to address the disproportionate impact COVID-19 has had on our residents. In this recent SANDAG report, an analysis found that the ongoing public health crisis has become an economic crisis shattering the San Diego regional labor market overall, especially Black and Latinx communities, who experienced a higher rate of unemployment and positive cases. Our residents account for a significant portion of essential workers who continued to go to work, and a significant portion of those who became unemployed due to the pandemic. As we publish updates, we will continue to share job announcements and our strategic plan on what we are doing to keep our district safe and healthy. Please do not hesitate to email [email protected] for assistance in identifying resources and employment opportunities. Here’s what you need to know for this update. Safe & Healthy Communities Initiatives Adopt-a-Highway: It takes all of us working together to realize our goal of safe and healthy communities. In response to your overwhelming concern about litter and debris on the SR-94 highway, our office has partnered with Caltrans District 11 in the Adopt-a- Highway Program. A special thank you to President Evelyn Smith and the Emerald Hills Neighborhood Council for their leadership in adopting a stretch of highway (SR-94 & Kelton Road on-ramp/ off- ramps) in our massive clean-up efforts. Rent Payment Period Extended Until December 30, 2020 for Tenants Struggling Due to COVID-19

On Tuesday, July 28, 2020, by a 5-4 vote, City Council extended the payment deadline for residents and small businesses experiencing financial hardships caused by the pandemic. The previous deadline was Sept. 25. The

ordinance passed but will need to return to Council for a second reading at a future meeting.

The Councilmember's "yes" vote is in response to the pandemic's disproportionate impact on Black and Brown people. The Councilmember stated supporting the motion is something that must be done, in response to the

rate of unemployment and COVID-19 cases in our district.
