Financial Management for NPOs – Visit to CPA Australia

In our effort to enhance our international collaboration, on 7 December 2011, ARI researchers met up with CPA Australia Senior Policy Adviser, Dr Mark Shying at the CPA Australia office in Kuala Lumpur. The meeting was held to discuss the possibility of adapting or benchmarking Dr Shying’s framework on “Financial Planning and Management for Non Profit Organizations” for emerging economies in this region. Dr Shying developed the financial planning framework for CPA Australia and it was adopted successfully by the state of Victoria. Professor Dr Normah Omar and Associate Professor Dr Roshayani Arshad are currently undertaking a research project involving NPOs in Malaysia and the existence of Dr Shying’s framework would certainly be handy to be adapted by the group.

ARI-CCM Research

ARI and CCM have agreed in principle to conduct a joint research project on “The Governance and Financial Management of Non-profit Organizations in Malaysia”. As far as ARI is concerned, the initiative was made by visiting the Singapore Charity Commission and non-profit organization office last January. Through interviews and site visits, we have gained knowledge on how Singapore managed its charity and non-profit organizations. To date, a concept paper on NPO Governance has been prepared by ARI researchers. A one-day research seminar cum workshop to meet up and discuss with non-profit organizations was held on 19 or 25 May 2011. A meeting to discuss the workshop was held on 11 March 2011 at the CCM.
