Friedrich Nietzsche Recognized God as a construct for us to hide from suffering. “God is dead. We have killed him, you and I.” Saw value in suffering for us to become stronger “That which does not kill me makes me stronger.” Did not believe in Free Will; we are determined. Strong will v. Weak will We are strong if we accept our fate. We are weak if we avoid suffering. Superman (Ubermensch). We are moving past the era of slave morality, which makes virtues out of our weaknesses. The new human (Supermen) will create culture to replace religion. Supermen are individuals who will think for themselves, and make moral laws for themselves. Supermen will also care for the weak and build up culture/society out of compassion. The strength of Supermen lies in their joyful acceptance of fate and their suffering because of how it ennobles them.
